I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the Restaurant St Ambroeus on Madison Avenue in Upper East Side, NYC. It is conveniently located close to the Metropolitan Museum. I went there so many times and the quality is always top notch. Both the pasta and the deserts should never be skipped there. It is also a great spot for people watching with the who’s who from UES often coming here. We took one pasta with truffle which explains the price range below (for ordinary pasta probably rather USD 50 per meal per person).
Everything here was perfect even the most absurd thing like the bread. Everything. This is a MUST visit place. The ambience, decoration, the people that work over there everything was great. Definitely coming back.
Our server from Poland (don’t remember her name) was really polite and nice, very attentive.
I believe everyone should come here and have the experience. Totally worth it.
Great restaurant. 30/10.
We were seated outdoors in a lovely heated cozy for a foursome table! ( even offered blankets!) Fresh flowers sun shining not too obnoxiously loud street noise we enjoyed a delightful lunch! We had artichoke salad the Bolognase and a tenderloin tartar appetizer. All delish! Bread and wine too! Sebastian made sure we were comfortable and happy! He even fixed our wobbly table! Our server Athanasios was knowledgeable and professional as was all the wait staff! Great private wonderful ambiance with decent menu choices for all diet needs
Came here for lunch on a Friday afternoon. We had a reservation and we were seated promptly upon arrival. The restaurant was at capacity but service was attentive. I ordered the chicken paillard and my husband had the Tagliatelle Bolognese. Both dishes were good but not outstanding given the price $$.
I was recommended this place to bring my mom as she has a gluten allergy, and they were lovely! Brought out gluten free bread and pasta with no contamination issues. I loved my aglio e olio and everyone at the table had a great time. Expensive but worth it
It's a fancy restaurant that I go to every time when I go to the big apple.
My recommended dishes are a big prawn cocktail and this green salad(forgot the name).
The cookie box from this restaurant is also popular but I feel like it's a bit way too expensive. Maybe around $50
This restaurant is the standard by which all other restaurants are measured. The decor impeccable, the food fantastic …the service stellar… my friend went to sit down and out of no where a man pulled out her chair… it was my friends birthday - a beautiful cookie and candle…they have elevated service down, multiple layers of people to ensure your visit is perfection…I have been to multiple locations and they are consistent .
We try to go to this place when visiting the city. Last time, my husband and I came earlier to our event and decided to have a quick breakfast there. We didn't want to eat in the car since we were dressed up, and the manager was extremely nice, letting us have a quick bite at the table in a main dining room(customer service🙌). This was very special for us and set the mood for the day. Thank you!
The must-have for Italian food in NYC! Great food and fabulous pasta. They are open for both indoor/outdoor, delivery or pick up!
If you cannot get a reservation for lunch, I recommend coming in before noon and seeing whether they have walk-in seating available. My friend and I did walk in before noon and got the seating in the front area. At the end of the meal, they gave us two cookies:)
We will be back again!
We went for breakfast for the first time today at this location. My daughter had pancakes and gelato, and I had principessa and cappuccino viennese. Everything was good, including the service, but the cappuccino was rather cold. I ended up getting a pot of coffee later for some hot coffee.
I read the reviews just now, and I hope I never experience rude staff as I plan to return. I did come across a male employee though who seemed very snooty. 🙃
An on going love affair…..
I brought my friend and it was her first time. She is gluten free. The server had gluten free bread toasted and brought to the table. It was so thoughtful and we did not even ask.
Food and pastries are always on point!!!
Always nostalgic to be here even when I no longer live in Manhattan. Took my daughter and her Bf who now live in Brooklyn as a memorable Sunday Breakfast and Brunch location. Casual in a fine setting. Service is always impressive.
Stumbled upon this place, and got seated outside in the lovely, cozy, private and heated up space. The food and service were amazing. We had a light lunch with eggplant parmigiana, roasted Brussels sprouts, and lemon tart. It is on the more expensive side.
Amazing place! Loved the ambiance, the food, the service was really incredible.
We got to try their Lasagna Verde and Ossobuco alla Milanese and they were both delicious. Would definitely come back!
Ate at the bar, Italian style. Mini sandwiches, pastry and cafe. Gorgeous selection of cakes and pastries at the bar area. Looking forward to a sit-down meal in the future.
If you visit Milano, be sure to check out the Sant Ambroeus bar/pasticceria at Corso Giacomo Matteotti, 7.
