Reviews Il Mulino New York

Food was inexplicably poor, the eggplant parm appetizer tasteless and the linguine in the frutti di mari overcooked to mush. The garlic bread and the veal chop were excellent though, as was the amazing service and atmosphere. Incredibly lucky to get a table here. Worth a visit but I would suggest sticking to the old boy food like steaks and chops.

Do not confuse this with any other Il Mulino Restaurant. This is I think the original and undoubtedly the best. This is like eating in the old world Italy. Great service and superb food in a true Italian ambience. I have eaten here many times when in New York and always look forward to the experience. A great place to dine.

Il Mulino sets a ridiculously high standard in fine dining. We have been guests for nearly 3 decades. Each time visit seems to surpass the last. Claudio, Louis and the entire team strive and succeed in making you feel like family! The food quality is top notch! The service is 6 stars! Treat yourself and your guests to a new level of gastronomic splendor! You owe it to your taste buds! God Bless Blue & Gold! God Bless America!

What a great and inviting Italian restaurant! Food was great, ambience appropriate and service couldn't have been any better. Gladly and enthusiastically recommend this place for an authentic Italian dinner, and please allow them to recommend you what to have for dinner, we did so and had an incredible meal! The only comment I'd have about this place would be the size of the table, it was small for a party of 5 that we were so things were kind of tight around the table, but otherwise, it was almost perfect!

Dear Lord, there is no better Italian restaurant than this place. From the moment you sit down, you are treated like royalty. Served fresh chunks of Parmesan, fresh tomatoes, and zucchini. Then the bread... Something like a bruschetta on its side to a cheese bread where the bread is both soft and hard, salty and spicy, and thin. Then came the chicken parm. Smashed thin, coated with mozzarella, and a helping of marinara. Do not deviate, get the chicken parm!

Anyone who has anything negative to say about this restaurant has the wrong attitude or expectations. Finest food and service in an atmosphere that epitomizes old fashioned, elegant, intimated NYC Italian dining. It’s what you come for. You don’t have to dress up but the place makes you feel like you want to. As good or better than any Italian restaurants we’ve been to world wide including nefarious Michelin starred ones. One of our best dining experiences ever.

Had the most amazing dining experience here. Claudio & his staff couldn’t have done better. Exemplary service & food. There is no ‘dress code’ but we (myself & 2 daughters) did ‘dress up’ as it was a special occasion. Thank you Il Mulino.

Came here to celebrate a birthday and everything about our experience was worth it. We got seated right away at our times reservation. Starters came almost immediately (they serve a selection of bread and other small bites like tomato bruschetta) - we didn’t order these appetizers they just come with every table! It was our first time so all four of us had a hard time deciding what to get since it all look so good on the menu. Our Italian waiter helped us decide on 3 pastas to share (a tasting, if you will), then we ordered the daily specials - branding encrusted in salt, and osso bucco. Hard to say if the pastas were the best we’ve had in NYC but I can say that everything tasted great especially the main courses and dessert (Napoleon is a MUST)! The ricotta cake is equally delicious!

Amazing experience overall, loved how patient the staff were, and the food, oh the food was incredible. The pasta was truly al dente, and the seafood was fresh. The part that stood out to me was the fact that I dislike tomatoes. I throughly enjoyed eating them here, it's weird but my dislike for tomatoes is up there! I'd recommend to anyone who wants to have a special night out with some incredible food, and great service to go with it. I'm already looking for an occasion as an excuse to go back!

I’ve been going to Il Mulino for 15 years. The West 3rd location is my favorite. The service is impeccable and spectacular and the food is outrageous. I ordered the veal Parmesan which is delicious, Caesar salad and the lobster pasta. Of course I had to have the Italian cheesecake for dessert. It’s a splurge but I really love Il Mulino so much!

I really don’t think they could do anything at all to improve. The food is outstanding and the service is unmatched. I’ve been here 4 times & every single time the experience & service did not waiver. I find It actually shocking that they ever have reservations available. It is truly the best. The price tag is a bit spendy, but worth it for the experience.

Great Italian old school spot. Cozy but we had a big group and it was still fun. Waiting staff was accommodating and brought out many free appetizers.

Wonderful dining experience! Attentive staff and excellent food. It may seem higher priced but you are served several starters when you are seated as a part of your meal and I cannot compliment the staff enough. Our dining experience was excellent and I highly recommend! Go hungry because they are very generous with portions. And did I say the staff was wonderful? It’s worth saying again! We love “Il Mulino” on 3rd St. between Thompson and Sullivan Streets near Greenwich Park in NYC.

We had an amazing fine dining Italian meal at Il Mulino Downtown. Right from the service, wine, food and dessert, everything was spot on. Another fun night out for our group of 8. We made reservations and got a table at 5:45pm. For wine we ordered 2 liter bottle of 2004 La togata brunello di Montalcino. It was delicious. Every pasta dish we got was excellent. Complimentary appetizers served as soon as you get seated. Brushetta, aged parmesan cheese, fried zucchini in garlic, Soppressata and garlic bread. We also got burrata which was superb. My favorite pasta was Capellini Il Mulino - Wild mushrooms, pancetta and sweet peas in a vodka cream and black truffle sauce. Best vodka sauce I have ever had. Special pasta - pappardelle with sausage and red sauce was delicious and so was pappardelle with meatballs. Grappa was on the house in end. We had a good time.

Wow, it's rare find an excellent old school Italian restaurant. This place is a gem, the food excellent, the service top notch. Highly recommended. I don't like 90% of Italian restaurants. But this is an exception. I'll be back.

Can’t begin to describe how magical this experience was. Imagine getting parmesan, bruschetta and bread before a menu! Food was authentic and old school Italian. Finally got a chicken parmesan that was done right! Definitely a must go to!
