Authentic and delicious food

I have visited this restaurant several times over the years. It doesn't disappoint.

The chicken is juicy and tasty. It is cooked in true Peruvian style, marinated and on the spit.

The side dishes are wonderful. Everything from rice, plantains, beans, yuca and salads with avocado.

Truly a treasure. I have been taking my Spanish language students for the past three years. They are available to have large groups and parties.

We went with a group who all had to get different bills for expense purposes which they accommodated. The staff made seating available immediately for our group as well. My food was good- spicy shrimp dish which wasn't as spicy/hot as I thought it would be.

The restaurant serves an interesting assortment of food. A lot of Latin American dishes, with a major focus on Peruvian cuisine. They also have a huge selection of Chinese-Peruvian stir fry options. Most Pio Pio locations don't serve that (or fresh fish for that matter), but they do here.

Given that, we tried one of the Chinese-Peruvian fried rice dishes. It was average at best. Not executed well and slightly bland. Luckily, their Peruvian staples were much better. The papa rellena was light and fluffy. The outer layer was perfectly cooked. Meat was flavorful, but had too many onions. The empanadas de pollo had an unusual look to them, but tasted fantastic. The egg within was an interesting touch.

Good alcoholic drinks, but avoid the wine. Service was fine, but slow. Was a fan of the decoration on their main brick wall. 35 pieces of art representing children from Peru, with a breast-feeding Mary in the middle.

Overall, good food and phenomenal mixed drinks, but Queens still reigns supreme when it comes to Peruvian restaurants. Particularly the Jackson Heights area.

Ordered from here one night and what arrived was a feast suitable for a party of four. Portions are HUGE. Everything tastes good. The  Papa Rellena was interesting, the dipping sauce for the chicken was excellent and there was so much avocado - I had a good time.

A MUST if you're in NYC! I had a foodgasm over there! The Corniva was amaaaaazing! Great great food! If you want a low key place you can ask to out upstairs and if you're into music or lounge and loud place you should sit downstairs, the restaurant is pretty big and offers 2 types of vibe. Definitely going back!

Chicken Heaven. I ordered the chicken with the green sauce and was surprised to find out that Peruvian style chicken is dynamite. I was amazed at the complexity of the taste profile in this meal. I enjoyed the potatoes all right but the star for me was the chicken.

The wait staff was efficient and friendly. All in all a good eating experience.

If there is one complaint about the place its that it is so noisy I couldn't have a conversation with my dining partner without also becoming a part of the noise clutter.

Pio Pio!. Pio Pio? I asked the waiter if the name of the restaurant means anything in Spanish. Through his thick Peruvian accent he told me, "No, it's just a name." I could have very well been walking into a small, low lit, and intimate restaurant in the heart of Lima, Peru. The walls are adorned with traditional Peruvian art against the exposed brick walls in its upper west side location at 94th and Amsterdam.

Pisco Sour is traditional Peruvian drink that was recommended to me, but looking around I noticed everyone had a pitcher of Sangria on the table, so I decided to stick with the trend. Sipping the sweet Sangria, I could have sworn it was juice, but heed warning, it will quickly prove not to be juice. I started with Sebiche. This is a white fish that is stored in limejuice for a period of time and the acid from the lime actually cooks the fish. It creates a unique taste and texture than that of sushi.

My main course was Picante de Camarones, which basically means spicy shrimp. When the plate was placed in front of me, I was a bit disappointed. For $20 I got eight pieces of small shrimp covered in a spicy sauce, and a scoop of quinoa with spinach and goat cheese in the center. The sauce could have been a bit spicier and I would have a like a few more shrimp, but the quinoa did a decent job of suppressing my appetite.

Pio Pio offered delicious Peruvian cuisine, but some dishes were a bit pricy for what you get. I wouldn't make this a regular stop, but if I'm ever in the mood for deep fried mashed potato's and Pisco Sour's, this will be the place to come.

Food was excellent. We had the Palta Rellena con Camarones and Fries for apps. And we had the Picante de Camarones and the Mero con Salsa de Porto for entres. Delicioso! was average. We were rushed to order and the servers tended to throw the food on the table. This would not stop me from returning.

The food was great, along with the ambiance and service. The service was well above average for the price and the portions were filling but not overboard like at many lesser resturants. Highly recommended!!

Wow. Fantastic chicken, but the green sauce is what makes this place worthy of repeat visits. The French fries are a perfect touch to make this place a must stop in NYC.

Upper West Side. I tried this location on a great review from a friend. Word of mouth, and the food at this location is wonderful, and please try the green sauce! I would say it's a great date spot also.

Try the "El Matador" and you will be very impressed!!

We decided to find out what restaurant a Peruvian diplomat would recommend as the most authentic in New York City when my brother told us that he was coming to town with his Peruvian wife and mother-in-law. Murray got the recommendation easily, and there

The sangria was good, we got the half pitcher and it was enough for 3 glasses (as seen in the picture). For starters, we had the calamari (8 out of 10), I had the Salmon del Pio, which was a 9 out of 10 for me, and my wife had the seafood combination ( 9 out of 10). All the food was delicious, the staff were friendly and responsive, and the environment was clean and appealing. I would recommend to anyone that does not mind the bit above average pricing.

Came here with my boyfriend for date night. The fried rice (w/o chicken) and the roasted chicken were incredible. The yuca fries were a bit dryer than my liking but the overall experience was wonderful. The atmosphere is relaxing because it isn't too crowded.

Excellent food and and service! I sat at the bar and the bartender Fernan was super nice and made a good White Sangria. They take good care of their guests! Definitely check this place out! Another plus was I literally waited less than 5 minutes for my food! Talk about fast, quick, and friendly service! Make sure you have their green sauce!! Peruvian food whenever I go into Manhattan is a must!!

I truly recommend this restaurant. The food has a relatively cheap price, given its astonishing quality. The staff and the waiters were extremely polite and nice at all times, and were continuously filling up our glasses with water. I strongly recommend the menu from 11 am to 4 pm, since it includes a big portion of chicken with side food (which includes several amazing choices) as well as a salad and a soda.

We order ceviche Limeño and was very tasty. Also we get the matador combo and the chicken is amazing, the best in NYC. Is a big plate with several sides perfect for sharing with friends (for 3 people or more). And we try also the maracuyá pisco and was sweet. The place is very crowded and looks really family style.

I was so happy to see Pio Pio survive the pandemic. This place is amazing. You must order the Matador Combo. Just look at the pictures to see everything you get. This fed three of us and was amazing. The chicken was tender. The sausage and fries were a great combination. Just amazing for the price point. Also, the sangria is great to share, though the price between a full pitcher and a half pitcher doesn’t add up (it’s cheaper to buy two halves than one full?) A must try if you find yourself near a Pio Pio. Service was great as well.

This popular local chain has always been a go to for some of the best chicken you can find in NYC. Food is consistently fresh and tasty, with this location being no exception. Although this location sheds some of the glamour of it's midtown siblings, it's well sorted for it's residential neighborhood and provides decent service. They do a large take-away business and can run a bit slow during rushes, so give yourself a few extra minutes if you're looking to take-away or order ahead. The Aji Verde (green sauce) could make me a repeat customer alone.

Rotisserie chicken has always been my go to meal when am looking to have something convenient and tasty. I first had this when I lived in the Upper West Side in the early 90s. There was a place that's was walking distance from the apartment and it was also open late so it was a delight. I previously reviewed that restaurant and have since moved higher in the UWS, though there are still a few similar places. Pio Pio is one such restaurant, advertised as " An Authentic Peruvian Cuisine Pollo a la Brasca "Rotisserie Chicken" with our famous Aji Verde "Green Sauce". Have only dined there once for dinner and then a few times have taken out. This is actually the first time I am having food delivered so hopefully, the order is still warm enough so it will not require re heating. I ordered their Juanitas Chicken, which as mentioned is rotisserie chicken which is marinated in mama Juanita's authentic recipe. It comes with 2 side sauces of Aji Verde which is a spicy Peruvian sauce made with cilantro, jalapeños, a little mayonnaise and Parmigiano. It is bold and bright, spicy and tangy and packed with fresh flavor. I also got a side dish of Maduros or more popularly known as sweet plantains. They are similar to bananas though have less sugar and similarly, are picked and shipped while green then change color to yellow then black as they ripen. So, I placed the order and the receipt mentioned it would take 43 minutes. Well, barely 20mins have passed and got buzzed that my order had arrived. Both plates were actually still hot. So, how was it? Amazingly delicious. The chicken was cooked just right and very juicy. It was not salty so perfect. The maduros were excellent as well with just a slight hint of sweetness. Rather than just putting it on a plate, decided to make a sandwich out of it, adding tomatoes, black garlic and ground pepper to the mix. It made the sandwich even more yummy. Definitely a great meal on a Friday afternoon. If ever you are in the neighborhood, check out Pio Pio. There are other branches aside from the UWS like Rego Park, Jackson Heights, UES and Brooklyn. Amazing food..

The rotisserie chicken is to die for! I ordered 1/4 of a chicken and ordered another 1/4 after devouring it. Everything was fantastic, but they also made a really good Arnold Palmer, which for some reason is rare in the city. The service was also phenomenal. My only regret was that I forgot to take a pic first. I will remedy that the next time I go.

DO NOT MISS OUT ON THE EMPANADAS. Seriously. The best empanadas I’ve had in NY. Filled to the brim, well-marinated, very crispy exterior and they also added some olives to add taste to the filling. For those who know what (Singapore-style) curry puffs are, these are like the Peruvian version, and better. They offer free delivery through their website (minimum 11.99). The food was delivered much quicker than expected, and the empanadas were still very crispy after delivery. I also tried the chicken. It was good, but not the best I’ve tried. The 1/4 portion is quite small (similar to 1/4 if a spring chicken) so you might want to order 1/2.
