Very tasty Shanghai style food and very good service staffs
This little restaurant has very tasty traditional Shanghai style foods and the staffs is very helpful. We visited twice in 2 days, just can not resist not to come again.
We enjoyed soup dumpling with beef and also one kind with a fish and it was really really good! The place was kinda small but still very cozy and the stuff was very friendly even though they didn’t spoke much. We went there specifically for the soup dumpling and it was delicious!
Great, inexpensive Shanghai food. After walking past the long line at Joe's Shanghai, my boss & I kept walking a few doors down to this place. Seeing an "A" from the Health Department, he was satisfied. Reviewing the menu in the window, I was eager. Decor is simple with 2 & 4 table seating. There is a family-style table in the rear of the dining room for a larger group.
After scanning the menu, boss played it safe & ordered chicken and broccoli, while I went for the eggplant with pork bits in hot pot and an order of juicy pork dumplings to share. The dumplings were 8 delicate & tasty morsels. I really can't comment on companion's dish, as I was afraid I'd lose a hand if I tried to steal a taste. I did notice that the chicken was thinly sized white meat with a healthy dose of veggie in a sauce that smelled wonderful. My eggplant was delicious, and I loved that it was served in an iron pot, so the last bite was as hot as the first. Not quite full, boss asked have some of my dish, and seemed to be taken by the slightly spicy pork sauce as I was. As we ate our lunch, more people arrived, mostly Oriental families (a positive sign in my book). With tea, the total came to under $40 T&T included.
Service is prompt and not overbearing. Don't expect a full bar, but there is enough to satisfy the casual drinker. Bathroom was incredibly clean (a HUGELY positive sign).
Will be returning to Manhattan for Columbus Day weekend, and I'm begging my companion that we stop by here to try out the rest of dimsum menu.
Ordered the Hong Kong Style special fried rice from the Chef’s special menu and the steamed bun w pork. The fried rice was one of the best I’ve tried in the East coast. Got lots of ingredients in it shrimp, fried tiny fish, sautéed pork chunk, onion, scallions. Love the beautiful color of the rice and it’s flavorful. The buns have soup in it so be careful, you don’t want to let them drip out of your spoon or mouth. All in all a great small restaurant, they’re moving into a new location due to lease ended.
Went here with a group of 4 and shared the dishes in the photos. Everything had complex and hearty flavors and had an authentic feel. Service was lightning fast and everyone was very friendly and accommodating. I want to come back and work my way through the menu!
The stand out dishes I had here are the "Tangerine Beef" and the "Fried tiny buns w pork." Also had the "Shanghai lo mien w shrimp" and the "Shredded pork with garlic sauce" but those were just average, I wouldn't order those again. Apparently the soup dumplings are good here so I'd try those next time.
A great place to eat supper! The service is excellent and the food is always fresh. They have a huge menu so there are a lot of options to choose from. Everytime I go I always get the scallion pancakes. They're light and crisp. Recently I tried the general tso chicken which is amazing! The portions are huge too. It is cash only so make sure you have cash on hand. I got the vegetable pan fried noodles which is definitely sharable.
Food is good and reliable here , service is also very helpful and attentive. One of our go-to’s. Most, if not all, of the other restaurants originally in this “tunnel” since the early 2000s are sadly gone, but hope this one is able to continue its stay for a very long time!
Cash only.

Fast service, excellent customer service! Varieties of asian dishes! Big portion of food! We order fried calamari, yummy! Steam crab dumpling, combo chicken with jelly fish, great food! They just accept only cash! It was great experience! Will back! Highly recomend! Locate in Chinatown! NY!
Love love love this place! If you’ve been to Shanghai 21 on Mott St, do not miss out on this sister restaurant! It’s a little smaller (in both size and menu) but it’s absolutely delicious!
Definitely get the soup dumplings and the pan fried buns - and try their delicious shredded pork with bamboo shoots, which is one of my go to every time I’m here.
The soup dumplings are really flavorful and with a great amount of filing and soup, my go to are the pork ones but they also have the ones with crab - both are delicious!
The fried buns are soft and pillowy with the added crispy bottom to make them so perfect. The filling is juicy and oh so flavorful, you def can’t go wrong with them.
If you’ve never had bamboo shoots you should def try the shredded pork with the. Sweet and savory tender pork strips with crunchy but hard bamboo shoots - trust me you’ll come back for more!
The service is nice too, they always keep refilling your tea so it stays nice and warm.
If you’re ever in the area do not hesitate and just go in - you won’t regret it!
If you’re looking for the best xiao long bao and fried calamari this is the place to be. Literally Chinatown’s best place to have soup dumplings! I also love their fried calamari which has a little heat to it and is always perfectly cooked. The main things we always order are Shanghai stir fried rice cakes as well as kao fu. It was slightly odd that the pan fried dumplings now have a sweet meat taste to it, but the soup dumplings were still great! The prices remain the same but portion size did noticeably decrease.
My friend took us to this casual Shanghai restaurant in Chinatown. First on the positives, the service was responsive and kind. The food was pretty good and the pricing was reasonable for Manhattan. Dinner for 4 people and three beers for $125 bucks.
The soup dumplings or xiaolong bao was solid. I recommend the truffle oil xiaolong Bell over the traditional one for this place.
The facilities is just a half a notch above hole in the wall. Your food is served on plastic plates. You get a plastic spoon and disposable chopsticks. Your water or hot tea comes in a paper cup. I think that's okay as we're in Chinatown and it's part of this place's charm. If you're looking for a fancy place, this is not it. If you're looking for a casual place and loves to charm of what I just described, you'll like this place.
As for the food, it was pretty good. I lived in Shanghai for 5 years, so I'll say this was not particularly authentic. Most of the menus what you'll see at most Chinese restaurants in Manhattan, which has a noticeable Cantonese bias.
Overall, I would be happy to come here again. I probably wouldn't go out my way to come here.
Came with a group of 3, and bill was only about $60 ordering 5 dishes. Service was good. Standout dishes were the dumplings and salt and pepper pork.
Soup dumplings taste extremely good, that’s one of the best I’ve ever had, we also had some beef slices, pan fried noodles, vegetarian duck, pork chop noodles etc, all of these are mediocre at best. Everything except soup dumpling is way overpriced. Would not recommend
Edit: soup dumplings r too good that I added one star just for that, I only order 6 pc of soup dumplings and enjoy em but nothing else from time to time.

still my favorite place for soup dumplings in Chinatown. the restaurant space is also intimate. the place can get very busy at times but the staff are very nice and helpful. I'm glad it's not as popular as Joe's shanghai which is right behind it because I can always get a table without the long wait.
the soup dumplings (xiao long bao) never disappoint, thin skin, flavorful soup and tasty in every bite. the regular soup dumplings are good and if you love truffles, their black truffle soup dumplings are very good as well.
the pad fried buns (Sheng Jian bao) are the bao version of soup dumplings if you need to eat a lot of soup dumplings to feel full. they are just as juicy on the inside, the bun soaks up some of the soup from the filling, but because the skin isn't terribly thick, the ratio of filling and bao is perfect, and the bottom nicely crisped.
the scallion pancakes are thin and crispy, not chewy like some others I've had. they might seem a little greasy and less layered though. and I would prefer it having a bit more scallion flavor but I would still order again.
the watercress with enoki mushroom is a very good befalls dish. you can't really go wrong with greens and mushrooms and this dish has a good amount of both.
will always bring my friends who love good food and always order soup dumplings. Looks like a hole in the wall, especially with all the construction and scaffolding around it. Only people in the know will find this place, everyone else can go to that other place behind.
I am surprised that I havr been visiting Chinatown gor the last couple of years but nobody ever mentioned this place.
This place is a hidden gem in Chinatown. Everything that you get here is mind-blowing and Delicious.
Their wontons in a speacial sauce is something I would kill for. Mini fried pork buns are pretty good. We tried several chicken entrees and none of them disappointed us. The rice items were also great and you could pretty much order anything you want here and it will turn out to be amazing.
The place is super cheap as well!!
Delicious soup dumplings and juicy buns, love the pork chop, noodles with meat sauce. We got the Restaurant Week specials that also came with soybean milk, Thai iced tea, and noodle soup with bok choy. There was so much food I was almost afraid It would break the takeaway bag! 😋
What a lovely place...don't let their small storefront deceive you. Their soup dumplings just hits the spot! The skin is thin with plenty of juices inside. The Shanghai noodle is al dente with just the right chewy-ness and softness. Their drunken chicken is the chicken version of alcohol infused chocolate. The scallion pancake is crunchy with loads if flavour.
I can not get enough of this place. Their truffle soup dumplings are to die for. I can sit and eat 4 orders of these they’re that good! I also always get the Vegetarians mock dock and the Wonton Szechuan Style (which is spicy). This little hidden gem is definitely one of my all time NYC favorites!
