My husband soprised me with dinner and a show. He knew that I missed Portuguese cuisine and found very few in midtown. Thankfully he made a reservation at Ipanema. It is a mix of traditional European Portuguese cuisine and Brazilian dishes as well. The garlic shrimp was Amazing! We almost licked the sauce off the plate. The grilled octopus was also delicious. Octopus can be chewy if not done correctly. This was tender, tasty and perfect! We were very happy with Ipanema. They have many other dishes as well for those that do not like seafood. I would highly recommend eating here. Bring your appetite, because you will want to eat every last morsal! The staff was also very kind and attentive! Our waiter had a genuine excitement about the cuisine. Rightfully so! I am 1st generation Portuguese and appreciate the cuisine. It is hard to compete with Mom's cooking, but this beat it!

We visited the City for the first time this week. We had the best meal of our trip here. The food was absolutely delicious. I had squid with roasted potatoes and sauteed onions. The sauce over it was both light and rich--subtly, yet potently seasoned. My companion had a great steak with black beans and rice. The cocktails were freshly crafted and exquisite. I like girly drinks. They have a vodka concoction with muddled strawberries and condensed milk over ice. It was subtly sweet and refreshing. The ambience is very pleasant. Cool grays with low, pleasant lighting. The service is excellent. Our server Gustavo was very gregarious and charming. A native of Rio de Janeiro. We enjoyed him immensely. The cherry on this sundae is that their prices are very reasonable. The steak was in the $20s. My drink was only $12 (compared to $18 or $20 most places). They are conveniently located near Times Square. We found them via Yelp and were very delighted by the surprise!

I had the strip steak with fried potatoes with Brazilian chimichuri. They also give white rice 🍚 and black beans for us all to share. It was all wonderfully delicious 😋

Food is very tasty and uses a creative combination of seasonings. Ordered beef tartare, pork chop, and my friend ordered duck rice. I loved each entree and staff is friendly. They can be more attentive but it's good overall. Cocktail is interesting too. The dining room is cozy and beautifully designed. Reservation recommended.

Every time I went to Ipanema, I had an incredible experience and could not give less than 5 stars. The food was always absolutely amazing, with each dish expertly prepared and beautifully presented. The flavors were bold and delicious, and the portion sizes were perfect. The atmosphere was elegant and upscale, with a warm and inviting ambiance. The service was top-notch, with attentive and knowledgeable staff who made sure our every need was met. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a truly memorable dining experience. Every plate has a special touch and don’t forget the deserts, that’s a piece from the heaven!

The apps and mains were all fantastic, dessert was mediocre, but the service was quite poor. The waiter was never checking in, slow to take orders, didn't really know the food /drink/wine menus when asked. For this type of restaurant service needs to be better.

Our daughter took us here. We had a drink each. My wife had alecrim, which I wasn't fond of. Daughter had palominha. I had the tea of Ipanema. This one is non-alcoholic, which tasted quite nice. For appetizers, we shared aborinha, PATÊ & ameijoas. The best is the little neck clams. It wasn't overcooked. It was cooked just enough the clams fall off the shells & not chewy. The fois Gras has a passion fruit jelly topping to complement the fat. The aborinha is like a mozzarella cheese (burrata) with squash sauce figs & zucchini on the plate. It's not too bad. The burrata is much softer than the Italian counterpart. For the principal, we had moqueca, arroz de pato & bacalhau. There's not enough cod in the bacalhau. It was done very nicely though. The moqueca we couldn't finish. It has halibut, shrimp, mussels, clams, squid with coconut milk. There's not enough rice to finish the dish. The halibut was surprisingly tougher than the cod. For the sobremesa, we had the tasting plate & sorvete sazonal. The cumaru was the best from the tasting plate. The sorbet came with 3 flavors. The 1 with the liquor is the least favor. The alcohol masks the fruitiness of the sorbet.

Had such an amazing dinner here! We tried all their vegetarian dishes, two delicious cocktails & their dessert tasting plate & the food was pure perfection (I mean just look at the presentation )!! My favorite dishes were the Angu (seasonal fried mushrooms, polenta, porcini vinaigrette & poached egg), the Abobrinha (house made burrata, fall squash, figs, brazil nut pesto & brioche), & the Salame de Chocolate dessert (w acerola sorbet, caramel cream & honeycomb)

Amazing restaurant. My husband is Brazilian and we were impressed by the entire experience: the atmosphere of the place, the service, and mostly the food! The chef managed to “upgrade” and modernize the traditional Brazilian dishes. Excellent 10/10

First and foremost the staff is superb, tentative and although delivering the most efficient and genuine 6-Star service they felt really down to earth and humble. There were so many smiles from the staff and we felt absolutely welcomed from the moment we walked in. Natalie - Was STELLAR. So well spoken, eloquent and the perfect dose of edgy that I admire. The cocktail program was impeccable, I use to work for a company - Bartaco and they were actually the developers for a tequila you use called Libelula which is the most delicious tequila because of its rich blanco and reposado blend. I was truly impressed. The food was truly a work of art. We had a chance to meet and speak with Chef Giancarlos and he is truly outstanding, passionate and just a great sense of a human being and really enjoys what he does and we felt that immediately when he was touching tables in the floor and spent time with us sharing his story. The stand out dish for the evening was the octopus first course as he did this beautiful red pepper purée and a dyhyrdrated yucca infused with squid ink which looked remarkable on the plate. (photos below of course!) The dessert tasting plate was outstanding and a work of art! Our Birthday Girl felt so special and it was the perfect touch for the evening. We can not wait to share this experience with all of our friends and come back and support Ipanema for years on end.

This is definitely an undiscovered gem. Food and service was top notch. Great cocktails and strong wine list. Don’t miss out on the octopus, one of the best I’ve had in recent memory. Mushroom appetizer is fantastic as well. For entrees, the Brazilian cut steak and the Mocqueca we’re phenomenal.

Everything was beyond expectation. Simone was lovely and recommended the best things on the menu. I’ve been missing Brazilian good since visiting the country last year and the moqueca here was even better than I remember at Joaquinas. We had the polvo starter and the pork and the polvo was outstanding. Everything stood out and if I could pick a favourite it would be my moqueca or the chicken entree. I can’t wait to come back when the bar opens. This is a place to eat good food, look cute and take good pictures.

Delicious food but even better service. We had their last reservation and they still served us very well. Oxtail, peri peri chicken and dessert was top notch. Our steak was over cooked and the manager apologized took it off our bill and offered a free dessert on the house. The level of hospitality that you don’t get anymore in new restaurants. Also a great wine suggestion as well.

Quite good looking restaurant, it feels like it just opened, pleasant decor. We tried 3 different cocktails before switching to wine, cocktails aren't spectacular or interesting in my opinion. I wouldn't return solely for that. Best part was deserts - tasting menu: it had a bit of everything and was scrumptious. I didn't like picanha even though I like it and rarely tried bad one in some other places. That is something that requires improvement. Foie Gras Pate had a lovely touch of passion fruit, I would have it and possibly with an extra slice of bread. I would definitely order rabada if I would come second time, just delicious.

This place opens only for dinner hours and is located next to its bakery sister, Bica, which seems to be closed now. I was afraid that meant this place was also closed. Glad I was wrong. This is a great restaurant in the area featuring interesting bits and pieces of Brazilian culinary culture. The restaurant itself is quite dim but has enough room between tables that you don't feel squished even when busy, save at the bar. The bar is the brightest spot in the restaurant and has a lovely pillar decorated to appear like a tree. Servers are always moving so you might want to be a bit more overt when flagging them down. They are very polite and answer questions and will check on you. They do have a drinks menu and it's not that extensive. But it does have good enough variety. I got the nonalcoholic Ipanema tea, which was like a strong ice tea. It was a good opener for the meal. The food is excellent and unique, even if the price is on the higher end. The pork belly hot appetizer came very generously portioned and decorated with pickle and onions, all which help cut the fatty meat and rich sauce. It was quite tender, though not pulling apart. The picanha steak was cut into pieces and served on a hot plate mixed with potatoes and a yucca based carb underneath, which I think was the farofa. The meat was cooked to my liking and it had a lovely pool of jus at the bottom. Another time I came, I got the polvo hot appetizer, which was an entire octopus tentacle. It was grilled and charred nicely, with crispy bits towards the end, and wonderfully tender all the way through. For mains, I got the porco, which is a pork chop. The chop isn't very big but comes with a sauce that is called mole on the menu and a bean and yucca mixture for the carb. There are pickled onions on top of the chop, which are a delicious condiment. The chop itself had a crisp crust and was deliciously juicy closer to the bone. All in all Ipanema is a bit of a pricier spend in this area for dinner. But you find things you can get only here in terms of flavors. It's a decent amount of food if you have the money for a nice date.

Has a limited but focused Brazilian/Portuguese menu. Everything is very very well done. Excellent flavors. Floored us on just the rice alone. The Brazilian cut, Moqueca and Fejoada was excellent. Also tried the grilled octopus and ceviche. Service was very slow and uneven hence the 4 stars.

So good! I went w a brazilian friend of mine and she definitely appreciated the commitment to the food! they have a tiny bakery (Bica) in front if you want typical brazilian bakery items. I got the peri chicken and my friend got the steak, both very good! Got the CAIPIRINHA and Helo drinks, both very tasty. The location is also so pretty! creates a nice ambiance.

Have to admit I was a bit skeptical but it was really good! The inside is beautiful and the food we tried was 🔥🔥, especially the abobrinha (house-made burrata) and the angu (mushrooms and polenta). Some of the prices might seem a bit high but the portions are enormous and totally delicious. Plus Luis Pato Vinha Pan btg (!) Don’t sleep on this place.

Every appetizer and entree was uniquely flavorful and perfectly executed - and we ordered a lot! My dad said the cachaça in his caipirinha was the best he's had in the US, complex with a honey finish. The atmosphere was welcoming, beautiful, and made us feel like guests in Chef's cozy, modern home, complete with a cool library. All staff were true professionals from start to finish. The only quirk was the Bakery items were not available for purchase during dinner service, so we missed out on a probably excellent dessert of brigadeiros for our whole table. I can't in good faith rate these efforts lower than 5 stars, and as a first effort it is a slam dunk. But coming from a fellow Brazilian, my wife wants to caution Chef to strive for a better balance between "what is new" and "what is known". I tend to agree, we worry too few "standards" might alienate the target audience of Brazilians living in / visiting NYC.
