The restaurant truly earns its reputation as one of the top romantic eateries in the world. Beautifully decorated, historical and charming.... very relaxing place with phenomenal food and impeccable service. It certainly lives up to its hype after all of these years....
The food was spectacular ( melt in your mouth Wellington ) the service was right on point and from the moment we walked in, we were treated like valued guests. We will definetly go back.
Amazing restaurant and super evening! The food and staff were first class, and the owner Maria was so lovely, made us feel at home on a very special evening. I would thoroughly recommend to anyone coming to New York, it's a must go to! *****
What a wonderful experience for my wife and I. The food, service and surroundings were spectacular. Would recommend it to anyone.
What an awesome place to celebrate a special occasion. I celebrated my 10th wedding anniversary. The staff was friendly and the food couldn't be any better.
Lovely, romantic and glowing with candle light. The food was great, too! Very friendly staff. A hidden gem in the middle of West Village....
5 star for service and the place is awesome but the food can be better (tasting menu)!!
We went here a few years ago now just before Christmas for brunch, it was amazing! Lovely place, great food and excellent service! Just a pit6 we looked like we’d been dragged off the street with bright red noses, wrapped up against the winter outside! Would definitely recommend.
Fabulous atmosphere- excellent food- attentive service! One of the best restaurants I have eaten in!
Visited with my husband on a trip to New York. Very unassuming from the back, no sign or anything outside the restaurant. So romantic inside! There was a woman in her wedding dress when we were dining. Service and food good, enjoyed the 7 course tasting menu with wine pairing. Be prepared to be extremely full! Expensive but worth every penny for the experience.

One if by Land, Two if by Sea, is one of the most romantic restaurants in New York City. Housed in Aaron Burr’s carriage house, this West Village beauty exudes elegance and true charm.
One if by Land was established in 1972. It serves classic and contemporary American and Continental cuisine. One is served by a bevy of tuxedo-clad waiters, who move you through your meal with distant efficiency. Replete with fresh flowers and candles on each table and a working fireplace and live piano music makes this the perfect spot to pop the question!
With all this magic in the air, one can almost overlook the how the food disappoints. There’s nothing exciting going on the plate here. Though there are attempts to infuse global flavors into the foods, there in no buzz being created in the cuisine served. The food is good but really boring!
Still, One if by Land, be my top pick to go to, if I wanted to impress someone or just spend an evening soaking up the ambiance. Oh – to be transported to that perfect space of enchantment, is in itself, worth its weight in gold.
Phelps Bell. Outstanding ambience and very good food. Not impressed by wines available by the glass.
The atmosphere here is beautiful! Small and quaint. A great date place for cocktails and appetizers before a show or a special occasion dinner. Try the scallops! They were delicious. Their famous ny strip left a little to be desired. Definitely would recommend it!
First class. Simply first class. Quiet, understated elegance at very reasonable prices. Warm interestng space hosted by warm and interesting people. Most definitely one of the city's perfect spots for a romantic and unique dining experience. Excellent wine selection. The sommelier is cordial, helpful and exceptionally knowledgable. Not to be missed.
Wonderful people!. And great food!
The staff was wonderful and accommodating. They helped with a wonderful engagement ring presentation!
We will be back in future visits as wife and husband!
Most romantic restaurant I've ever been. I went there for an anniversary celebration and it was perfect. We sat in the corner of upstairs. They will light the candle on your table when you sit down. The wait staff does not rush you. You can relax and enjoy your meal. We tried the tasting menu and it was delicious. My partner thought it may not be enough food for him so we ordered a side of mash potato with black truffles but as it turns out it was more than enough food for each of us. We had to leave some food behind.
Everything was perfect that night. Will definitely recommend this to others.
Will be Back!. Excellent Service, Friendly Hostess, Very Friendly Waiter.
Went during restaurant week. Food was excellent. The steak was perfect. Great Dessert!! Everything was just right. Good Wine. There's really nothing bad to say. The only downfall.... it is expensive!!! On a typical night, probably expect to spend 80 a person...not including beverages and alcohol.
Maybe because it had so many patrons, it wasnt as "romantic" as all the reviews claimed it to be. It was kinda loud, but a very busy night. It was a nice ambiance, the noise probably took away from the romantic part.
A blow-out we won't forget :). During our 6 day break in New York (from England) my boyfriend and I wanted to have a bit of a blow-out night, money no object and OIBL, TIBS was the perfect place to do this. We chose the chef's tasting menu with wine pairing ($165 pp) and had a couple of drinks at the bar downstairs first. The pianist was very good, the atmosphere of the place was great and the service was fantastic. As for the food - worth every penny. The final bill including tip (not mandatory for a change!!) came to $460 - a lot of money to 2 20-somethings but absolutely worth it. One thing, we sat in the upstairs dining room, not the one by the bar. This dining room was rather more private and quieter than downstairs.
Fabulous evening - a little tipsy by the end and very happy customers.
Perfect. My fiance took me here the night we got engaged. the service was impeccable, the food was amazing and he proposed to me in front of a small room of people so it was still very intimate and romantic. Everyone was in on this and I had no clue. The people around us applauded. We will be going back for anniversaries, celebrations and just because. I still have dreams about the food here. The Beef Wellington is not to be missed.
My favorite memory was when we were leaving the pianist was playing Billy Joel then when we got to our train there was a guy down there playing the same song on his piano.
Romantic. One of the most romantic eateries that I've been to.
We had an amazing Prix Fixe dinner and it didn't dissappoint!
Great entre's weak appitizers. I liked my entre and desert, very nicely cooked and tasted great. App selection was weak. Needed more to choose from. Nothing I wanted...hated my soft shelled crab. Not a fan of the stuff but felt there was too limited a selection.
My husband and I have frequented this restaurant since 1994. It is the best. Best service, best atmosphere and best food. It is a great place for a very romantic dinner. Do not visit NY without stopping here.
The best old fashioned, romantic eatery in NYC. The beef wellington is a must.
My go to for sophisticated celebration.
Honestly, our usual NYC dining experience is much more casual, much less elegant. But this was a special occasion, and we needed something different. One If by Land, Two if By Sea. Fine dining in a historic setting. Drew's dream dinner. So of course we had to go. And after a few wrong turns traipsing through the West Village, we arrived. The building was once Aaron Burr's carriage house. It's dark and romantic and decorated with antiques and/or reproductions. Multiple fireplaces warm the rooms. The resident pianist entertains. Perfect atmosphere for a special occasion. (In fact, we witnessed one happy couple become engaged.) Service was impeccable, of course. Everyone was friendly and efficient. It's a price fixe menu, you choose an appetizer, an entree and a dessert. There's an extensive wine list -- I ordered prosecco -- as well as cocktails from the bar. Drew ordered his usual amaretto Collins. Our meal began with a tasting of cured salmon over creme fraiche. Drew

However, the best of all that night is one of the restaurants top sellers, the beef wellington. Ashamedly before this point in time I had yet to try the beef wellington. After watching Gordon Ramsay's Hell's Kitchen and how many times the contestants under or over cook the dish, I was dying to try it when they finally got it right. Now was the time and I was not at all underwhelmed! With the tender and flavourful steak wrapped in flaky crust that absorbs the bordelaise jus it was something to come back for (if New York City wasn't enough already).

New York restaurant week has come and gone over the years, and with a tough economy, it seems like the week has extended to weeks and somewhat water downed the concept. Many restaurants get on the wagon for this event just for a head coun
One if by Land, Two if by Sea shouldn't be missed if...
This place is absolutely out of this world, the most magical romantic vibes. We had the tasting menu and every single course was beautifully flavored and presented. The courses were not rushed as they can be at other establishments so you really got to thoroughly enjoy each dish. It’s pricey but not as expensive as other tasting menus out there. The star of the show is the beef Wellington, it was absolute perfection. They also gave me a free dessert with a candle for my birthday, cute!
Now I understand why they call it the most romantic restaurant in NY! We celebrated our anniversary here and it was better than I expected. I can’t say I was blown away with the food, but doesn’t even matter. It was good and the menu was very different and creative.
But the atmosphere, the ambiance, the way they host you… Our server was wonderful, pleasant and friendly. The same was for the busboys and food runners. They also let us take our time with our meals, let us enjoy our night and our conversation, which I appreciate very much. For the end they brought us a dessert saying “happy anniversary” which really put smile on our faces. Highly recommended!
Celebrated my 10 year wedding anniversary here this week and it was AMAZIN. From the moment we walked in we were greeted kindly and taken care of completely. The atmosphere is very romantic and really special. The food was very good. I enjoyed everything. Cannot wait to come back here and enjoy the experience again.
This restaurant is by far one of the most delightful I have ever visited. My wife and I wanted to experience fine dining while visiting New York, and suffice to say we were not disappointed. The staff were superb, the food delicious, and the service quick and thorough. We would gladly stop by again if we are ever in the area!
Absolutely gorgeous restaurant with an elegant bar area and a live piano. You get instantly transported from the crazyness of West Village to the quiet glam of the Gilded Age.
Our last time we sat at the bar (it was an easy walk in, there were a lot of seats available on Friday night, but the dining area was full) and they allowed us to order from the set menu.
The cocktails were so good, especially Coup d'Amour and Two if By Sea. The buratta and foie gras both were mouth watering. I liked Pina Colada dessert more than Lovely Popcorn. Portions are small but it was perfect for us.
This place was just, wow! This restaurant was gorgeous and the decor fit the season perfectly. The dim lighting created a perfect ambiance.
I could have just gone in not wanting food, but to just sit in front of the fireplace. The food was fantastic (I strongly recommend the Foie Gras).
The food wine room upstairs is incredible. The only thing I had a problem with was how small the menu was; but to be honest, I didn’t care because the food I ate was delightful.
Thank you!
Went for birthday celebration, the tasting menu was fantastic, loved the foie gras and beef wellington, especially. The lava cake they brought out for bday dessert was very delicious too. We were stuffed after the 7 courses, portion size was good. The wait staff was friendly and attentive, the atmosphere was absolutely charming, candles and ambiance and pianist playing. It was a perfect 3 hour dinner.
We celebrate my wife's birthday dinner there, the atmosphere is amazing, and there is romantic vibes. The server was great and fun. We had the prefix perfect size and flavor 👌 i dreamed about that white velvet dessert, amazing
This place is so beautiful and cozy. The staff is wonderful and the room is so elegant. They were playing music when we went for lunch and it was such a wonderful experience. The food was also great! I would definitely recommend coming here: especially for a date. It’s very romantic!
This place is fantasic! Great staff, service and food! Tonight, i tried for the first time « Beef willington » and it was too good! Highly recommended. This place is very organized! These amazing staff « Ronny and Elmol » are the best! The GM as well is sweet’ They provided me and my girlfriend a phenomenal service 🫶🏾. Also, this place is so romantic, I love how their playlist goes with the vibe…🤌🏾 I can’t wait to go back🤍
One of the best of the best. Not an a la Carte menu, but good choices of 3 courses, or an extensive tasting menu. Service was high class, very attentive to every detail.
Came for an anniversary dinner! The food was WONDERFUL. Ambience is even better and the staff are very helpful and nice. There was a very loud table behind us which is why I am rating only 4 stars. It doesn’t seem like the kind of place to get together with friends and laugh/talk loudly. I wish the staff would have offered to move us. Other than this, it was a wonderful anniversary dinner in the city.
We had an amazing and romantic experience at One if by Land, Two if by Sea! The food is delicious, and the service is excellent!
Beautiful and unique space, which is ideal for dates. The food was good, but a bit expensive. The Beef Wellington is the best I've had in the city.
Only the Valentine's menu was available when we went, which cost $200 per person and consists of 4 courses. All of the food was good, but not good enough for the price tag in my opinion. The normal Prix Fixe and Tasting Menus are more affordable.
Our service was good, and the servers were attentive, but the timing between each course was quite slow. Our server did recognize and apologize for this.
