Super cozy NY diner like something out of a movie. My husband and I came here almost every morning while in NY.
The service we received was excellent, but you can’t really take my word on that. My husband and I can’t seem to find rude service anywhere we eat in the world so we figure we reap what we sow. People just seem to bend over backwards to please us.
The portions here are huge. We had tried the breakfast platters with sausages not realizing the sausages would be so huge and there would be such a mountain of hash-browns. Everything tasted great.
About the best thing I tried was the egg salad sandwich. It, of course, was humongous and I loved that it came very neatly wrapped in wax paper to keep your hands clean. It was so tasty and so fresh, like your grandma just made it. So, so good.
When back in NY I wouldn’t hesitate to return.

Looking for that cosy diner feel we stepped into Astros for breakfast only to wait in a long queue to be seated. As my dad always says, the longer the wait the more in demand the restaurant is. So with high hopes and a healthy appetite we waited for our turn.
The place is small and the staff is bustling orders across the place. Seating so small and cosy with the option of tables or eating at the counter. The menu has a good selection and we opted for the platter with sausage (pork), bacon, eggs (sunny side up) and potatoes. Expecting the regular salted side, the potatoes were actually a surprise spiced preparation that balanced the meal beautifully. It is served with 2 slices of toast. We also tried the cinnamon and raisin French toast which was just the right amount of sweet. We were filled thoroughly at the end of the meal.
Expect good quick service but a 10-15min wait to be seated.
Oldschool Diner. I visit Astro for breakfast every time in midtown and only get one thing: the lox platter. It's pretty hard to screw up, and I realize you can get it at tons of places, but this is old school at it's best. I love sitting at the diner listening to the regulars bitch about but the train and the subway. It doesn't get much better than quality lox and a toasted bagel, accompanied by capers, onion, cream cheese, tomatoes, peppers and lettuce!
SO GOOD. They serve breakfast all night. Great diner
Ditto e-bu's review. Quick, simple, and cheap.
Great food, great service. However, if you try to pay with plastic, you are "punished" by being sent to the far side of the bar to wait in line with people picking up to go orders. The lady at the front "cash only" podium also flashes you a look of disdain.
Perfect alternative to the pricey hotel down a block. Great service, good food, friendly atmosphere. Definitely will come back.
Quick, simple, and cheap greasy spoon. what more can I say?
LOVED this place, I don't know why more people don't talk about it but then it would turn into a tourist trap I suppose. Had a great sandwich for breakfast. Sat at the counter which was very nostalgic. Staff was super friendly and talkative. My sandwich came out without it's bacon and it was fixed quickly and professionally. HIGHLY recommend! Prices are very affordable.
I don't know why the Astro Diner is not rated higher on Google reviews. It is by far the best non-touristy diner on the west side of Midtown. They have a very large, diverse menu, and the food is great. I've eaten here many dozens of times, and while the decor inside is nothing special, the experience has been fantastic on every single occasion. The service, specifically up front at the bar area, is the best. We had the carrot cake for dessert this visit, and it was out of this world. Maybe the best carrot cake that we have ever had!
First time to New York City. Looking for a straight forward breakfast with
Something a could eat on the menu. Thus restaurant was perfect. Service was quick. Staff was polite. Prices were reasonable. Food was excellent. Going back tomorrow. Extremely busy but efficiently managed. 5 star
Amazing American style diner with a Greek twist. The food was great and you have so many options to choose from. The best thing we liked the most was the friendly service. Highly recommend and will definitely be back
Love love loved our egg, avocado and cheese sandwiches at Astro! We were craving some comfort food and this hit the spot perfectly. Really cool little diner with quick service and fresh ingredients. The sandwiches were about $15 each, so pretty good for NYC standards! Will definitely be back!
Astro is a very nice, “American style” restaurant with delicious food and very friendly staff. We spent in the NYC more than a week and each morning we went to Astro for the breakfast. We recommend a few sets of pancakes as well as sunny side up eggs.
Great Greek yogurt with figs and honey for breakfast. Great bagels and French toast and bacon. Great service. Fun to sit at the counter.
Went for breakfast here this morning with my wife and son and was a great experience.
The service was fantastic, really friendly and fast and efficient and made sure you were well looked after.
The food was a great surprise as didn’t expect it to be as good as it was, was definitely worth far more than they charge. I had the Californian Benedict which was a great take on Eggs Benedict. We also had the Nutella Pancakes and Poached eggs on toast and they were just as good.
If you are near Astros in Midtown then definitely drop in for breakfast when you are in New York you will not be disappointed.
Real Tasty!!! Every time it is good Very good breakfast. Typical diner food but very good and great people watching. Get a booth on the windows or sit outside and watch the world go by. If you know what a chocolate egg cream is this is the place to get one that is how you remember from the "good old days". Excellent bagel, egg and bacon sandwich too. Check out all of our reviews. If we do not like it we do no review it so all of the ones you see are places that are fantastic. Follow us if you like. We had over 17 million views in 2021 and we thank you for that. They know how to make a good meal. No issues with our order our server was polite but also let us have our alone time to eat. Their bathrooms are clean and easily accessed. Would come back again if we were in the area.
A very decent restaurant close to Central Park. We went at lunchtime and it was very busy. Service is good and the food is tasty with good size portions. Reasonable prices for new york. Thoroughly recommended
Been in NY for 5 days and this was by far the best food and service that we have had. The
lady serving at the counter this morning 11 Dec was excellent. We had the Full English and Strawberry pancakes all delicious.
Day one in NYC. Cafe style dining on the sidewalk. Super fast and friendly service. Pastrami sandwich for me and a burger for my daughter. Pastrami was good but missed the mustard. Fries and burger delicious. Happy bellies. Back to exploring!!
Great classic diner experience! They have a huge variety to choose from on their menu for breakfast. You can get healthier options like the varieties of yogurt parfaits or sweet options like pancakes. The pancake menu is huge and you'll have a hard time deciding but you can't go wrong with any of the options. I got the Dulce De Leche pancakes and tried the Polynesian pancakes my friend got. Both were amazing! I took leftovers of my pancakes home. The place was very busy when we went but the service was still pretty good.
A great welcome to New York. Great atmosphere. Fantastic range on the menu. Stuffed! ❤️❤️❤️
