Wonderful in all aspects. Service was as extraordinary as the food. Loved unpretentiousness but casual sophistication. Squash sage soup was best ever. You have got to try the handmade gnocchi. The pumpkin lava cake is worth the short wait. Can't wait to take my husband there.
The food was excellent and the service was divine. Really tasty lunch followed by three scoops to share of sorbet. Definitely recommend.
Bar Boulud never disappoints ! Always a choice of ours when catching a performance at Lincoln Center. Superb salmon over wilted leeks and steak frites along with stellar service and a cozy atmosphere were the perfect endings to a 20 degree evening in NYC ! Can’t wait to return.
Great restaurant. Fabulous food and outstanding service. Even though it's restaurant week, I felt like I received excellent foodservice, and the table was mine for the night. Very European . Shout out to my server, Marco. He was fabulous

Excellent service! Fresh delicious food! Wonderful place just to enjoy an afternoon with friends celebrating life.
At first you feel like you are walking into a wine barrel, but once inside the flowers and light airy colors are welcoming. We enjoyed every single dish ordered which included exquisite oysters, flavorful steak tartare, superb soups with French Onion and Vegan pumpkin, a scrumptious lamb pasta, and yankee burger with side of brussels. Wine and drinks were made well also. Service was good. Will definitely return when going to a show at Lincoln Center.
We came here for the summer Restaurant Week for a birthday lunch, which I suspect is a slightly smaller portion than normal because I did feel a little hungry afterward. Everything was good though:
- Pate was rich (wish I had more!) and complemented nicely by a well-dressed, albeit small, salad
- escargots were good in the rich buttery sauce and came with good, crusty bread
- trout was cooked perfectly
- the Frenchie burger came out medium as asked but there was too much going on (strong cheese, saucy pork belly) and I wish I could taste the beef more; the fries were great though
I liked the restaurant's light and airy atmosphere and it was pretty empty on a weekday. If I'm in the area for a concert I'll definitely stop by again.
We came for dinner during restaurant week and had a fabulous time. Service was nice and food was excellent. I started with the beef tartare and it’s was exceptional. The burger topped with confit pork belly was indulgent and very tasty. They also had a great deal on a bottle of wine for $40 - I was a bit apprehensive as to the quality one would get for that price but it was surprisingly not bad! All in all a nice evening.
Really enjoyed a meal with friends at Bar Boulud. The food was great and the portion size was decent too. Massive fan of French food and it has to be some of the best in the Upper West Side. In addition to the great food the service is excellent and the atmosphere is relaxed and doesn’t feel too fancy. The highlights were the trout, Chocolate Cremeux and almond cake (Geteau Basque). I had the steak tartare for starter but I’ve had much better elsewhere - it was sauce heavy which I didn’t enjoy. Still give Bar Boulud five stars for exceptional mains, dessert and ambience. It’s also in a great location too.

Layout/atmosphere
*French bistro; one long room with vaulted ceiling; bar towards the middle on left hand side; mostly booths; picture frames with “stains” from different wines of various vintages & years; wine racks downstairs near restrooms; two enclosed outdoor structures on sidewalk with heat lamps
Service
*Attentive
Food/drink
*Kale & Citrus Salad (baby mustard greens, blood orange, onion, blue cheese & pine nuts) - very good; enjoyed the different flavors of each individual ingredient
*Frenchie Burger (angus beef, pork belly, tomato compote, raclette & Dijon on brioche bun with gherkin garnish & served with pomme frites with ketchup) - Good; patty cooked right; pork brought different element to the dish; got better with each bite; frites also Good; crispy, salted
*Complimentary bread & butter - solid
*Last Ride (gin cocktail with maraschino & lime) - solid; strong aftertaste
This was truly fabulous .
The braised chicken was really top top notch .
The fluke tar tar was so fresh .
Desert was rich but extremely tasty .
This was a real delight for the senses .
Can not wait to come back .
You can have a nice quick meal before a show. You can't get out the door under $50. Nice wine list. Good service. I'd return.
The quality of the food served at Bar Boulud has not changed a bit over the years. It is simply exquisite. I highly recommend the escargots and the trout dish. Also, I like the semi-privacy of the outdoor space.
REVIEW FROM 2 YEARS AGO: exquisite food: fresh and flavorful. Excellent service.
Amazing food, well presented and plenty of options at the decent prices. Ample indoor and outdoor seating and they have a good wine collection. Would recommend.
We loved the chicken liver mousse (amazing flavor and it paired really well with the berry jam), the rainbow trout and the passion fruit cheesecake . The Frenchie burger, hazelnut ice cream, raspberry sorbet and winter salad were decent.
So Tasty!!! wow Awesome place across from Lincoln Center. Food was fantastic. I had the steak and it was very good. She had the hamburger and loved it. The fries were hot, firm, thin and very tasty. We had the steak tartare which is every bit as good as the chef's fancier joints. I had the charred Octopus which was beyond amazing. I am not an Octopus eater normally but I had heard it was so good I decided to try it and I am glad I did. Desserts were great too. First class all the way. Great vibe too. The food and service was excellent. We got a small charcuterie board to share that was perfect for a group of 4. We loved our server and we thought the the wine special was great as well. Our dishes were delicious and the deserts at the end were all light and tasty. The sorbet and gelatos were so refreshing and addictive. You must try their raspberry and rose sorbet. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very relaxing and a great place for a lovely dinner. Will definitely be back!
How does it get better for pre-opera than Bar Boulud? The location is perfect, across the avenue from Lincoln ctr and easy safe walk from Columbus circle as well. The food is delicious, quick to the table, and price pre-covid, with casual yet modern ambience. My favorite is the snail appetizer ! This is a great spot for the second date!
Came here for my mom’s birthday after a show at Lincoln Center. Great location and friendly staff. If you like wine, enjoy the sommelier’s daily general pour - a treat to see what is picked for the day. The French Onion soup was delightful. Portions were perfect. Highly recommend the chocolate crème brûlée for dessert if available!
We had restaurant week and special set.
Deal was good, but the pate was a little bit too dry. Most of the dishes are above average, dessert was okay. Accidentally we get a extra one because they gave the wrong one.
The restaurant is beautiful and the atmosphere is great. The food however was not very good but not bad.
My daughter and I went to Bar Boulud to celebrate the New Year with a four course pre-fixed dinner. We've been to BB before and always found it to be a great place for dinner. The evening did not disappoint. The staff was very friendly and attentive (a special thank you to our server Eilish D and the restaurant manager and the sommelier who stopped by to check on us and wish us a Happy New Year.). The fluke mille-feuille was a nice start. We both chose the black truffle beef tartare with hazelnuts. To be honest this was our least favorite dish of the evening. The beef lacked flavor and was overwhelmed by the hazelnuts. This was followed by the wonderful duck lasagna. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the duck was front and center. The main course for me was the black sea bass with pistachio, blood orange and sunchokes. The fish was wonderfully tender and I enjoyed it thoroughly. My daughter had the beef duo, consisting of a beef tenderloin, red wine braised short rib, with a chestnut puree and celery root. My daughter raved about the dish and after taking a bite of both, the short rib and tenderloin, I have to agree. The main course was so good we forgot to take a picture of the dishes. We finished the meal with a brie de meaux (cheese course) and a guanaja chocolate tart. Both were great choices. The brie was laced with black truffle and accompanied by candied pecans and apple sauce. Rich and creamy, the cheese was amazing. The chocolate tart was paired by the tart and fragrant raspberry sorbet which cut through the super chocolaty tart. We had a wonderful time! We will be back.
