Au Zataar was a very welcoming, ambient and decently priced restaurant in a prime location. Upon our arrival, we were at first seated outside due to its overwhelming popularity. However, upon request we were moved inside in order to partake Au Zataar’s main attraction:shawarma grill at your table!
We had the lamb shawarma that comes to your table on a revolving grill, fresh and juicy and tasty. The accompanying sumac fries were mouth watering also....how can I forget the outstanding service we received from Khalid, our waiter and Fasan, our host.
Highly recommend Au Zataar.
First time in NYC, I decided to try this place because of various Facebook videos and recommendations. I must say that the service and the food was excellent! My waiter was very attentive and I couldn't even raise my head without him rushing over to the table! I dropped my fork twice and each time the busser ran over and handed me a clean fork almost immediately. I must say I’m very satisfied with the service and next time I am in town I will be back.
Came in vacation to NYC all the way from Tennessee , we planned to come here before we landed based on reviews and we came over and it was great experience we loved the supreme mix grill that was really good And all the mezza items that we ordered were great ,,, love this place
, Hani our host/ water definitely made the visit extremely pleasant, the customer service and the hospitality we got , you don’t get that anywhere or with anyone we would definitely going come back to this city , even if we just come back for this place lol , make sure to try to mint fresh drink it delicious. Over all 5 start on location , food , customer service and taste of course very authentic and a must see place on any trip to the big Apple
Amazing food. Amazing staff. Variety of options. 100% highly recommended. It was on my to-do list while visiting New York and was definitely worth it!
The place, the service, the food and everything. It’s a bit pricey but it worth the wait
Last night was our first time and we enjoyed it .Our servers, Sarah and Mark was excellent. We traveled all the way from DC just to tried their food ,and the best part they have out door seating, which you can bring your dogs, and we did our dogs was the stars of the night. Mark and Sarah brought out water for our dogs. The food was outstanding. We will be going back came.
Saw this place on Facebook and we just had to try it! It looked amazing and tasted great! Definitely make reservations, even on a Tuesday it was packed!!!! The manager was great and so was the service at the bar! Thank you for the great experience! Will definitely be returning!

My experience at Au Za’atar was great . One thing many people should do is to call before they get there . The shawarma will be done at your request, and they do let you know that it will take up to an hour for your shawarma to be ready . Hummus was great I loved it especially the parsley Hummus “Yum” I’d love if they could add more pitas to the hummus. My shawarma was well done and very delicious , and the price ? Worth it!! 58 bucks for a beef shawarma which can feed 4 people! Are you kidding me ? . To have a best experience reserve a table and call in advance . I will be going back ....
The place was really nice. The service was excellent as well, the waiters were pretty attentive. We ordered the mixed grill platter and it was amazing. This was my first time eating Lebanese food and I really enjoyed it . They have pretty good seasoning. I highly recommend it.
Great location and the vibe inside is very fun. Come here after work during the week and there will be a ton of people inside. The food was okay the drinks were definitely on the sweeter side. Glad we tried it out because a lot of people were talking about this spot. Would definitely recommend the mixed grill to a try a little bit of everything.
This place was absolutely amazing! Classy date night spot with the perfect ambiance. The service was top notch and our waiter Gio was well informed on all the dishes and had great recommendations. We ordered the hummus with pine nuts which honestly was the best I’ve ever had. The mushroom cheese pies with caramelized onions were also quite delicious and everything was really fresh. I also loved the chicken soup with veggies which reminded me of home. For our main entree, we got the kebabs which were packed with flavor and so good with the vermicelli rice, oh and let’s not forget about the sumac fries which were fried and crispy to perfection. I also loved all the homemade sauces that come on the side which include: tahini sauce, harissa sauce and the spicy green pepper sauce. This place honestly blew me away and was really well staffed. I can’t wait to come back the next time we are in NYC!
Forgot to mention they do offer the shawarma towers but since they’re a specialty item they don’t have it listed on the menu. They’re pretty big and can feed 4 people so we opted not to order one but it also looked delicious and is available so just ask your waiter.
Been to this authentic lebanese restaurant. The food is so flavourful that you would relish every bite. The variety of dips and hummus are amazing. The lamb chops were tender and on point, the best I have tasted till date. Would recommend to try tabletop shawarma and lamb chops.
This was my second time here and the food was great. We had a platter for two which could definitely feed 3 light eaters. The spritz(which I forget what was in it because it wasn't mine 😊) was also very refreshing.
-1 star for atmosphere they sat us outside alongside the restaurant wall but there were plenty of other tables outside that looked better.
-1 for service the qr code menu had sauce on it. I was going to mention this to the waiter, but after she took our order she took it with her so I didn't bother.
Overall I had a great time. I'm definitely down for round 3.
Huge shout out to the manager who was patient to all of my reservation updates and for accommodating our large party of 8.
Atmosphere (5/5): We were seated in one of the private outdoor patio dining areas which could sit around 12 people. It had cute decorations and heat lamps available. It was warm enough to not need the heating and a sliding door kept the heat in. We loved the private setting although the space between the walls were very tight.
Service (4/5): All individuals in the party have to be present before getting seated. Large reservations were difficult to adjust online, however adjustable through calling. The private dining naturally made it difficult to get service but the food came out at spaced interval and water was refilled with an appropriate timing. We had a Day 1 waiter but we made it easier by writing in a Note what our order was. I would suggest to the business in considering pitchers for self-refilling.
Food Overall (5/5): I loved every dish! Wines were priced at $54/bottle;
Mezze & Dips Tower - there was a medley of different things including hummus, eggplant, salad, cauliflower, potatoes, beans, and pita slices. We were able to get a refill of pita for free!
Arnabeet Mekle - Fried cauliflower was nicely seasoned
Traditional Falafel - a nice outer crunch, great seasoning
Halloum Mekli - love the fried cheese and the hint of sweetness from the honey
Shish Taouk Salad - this was very similar to the chicken kebab just salad instead of rice
Shish Tawook (Chicken Kebab) - chicken pieces were large and juicy, marinated with spices, and complemented well with the rice
Kibbeh Labanieh - the minced ground beef meatballs were swimming in a yogurt sauce, that was both creamy and tasty
Our party of 8 ordered 2 bottles of $54 wine and all of this, including tip, it was just about $50
This place is a fantastic Lebanese restaurant! 🇱🇧 Au Za'atar offers a wonderful selection of incredibly delicious 🤤 Mediterranean dishes 🍽️ and small plates - definitely get the Hummus with Lambs 🐑, Cauliflower with Yogurt Sauce, and Fried ♨️ Halloumi Cheese 🧀 with Honey! 🍯 Their cocktails 🍹 and variety of Lebanese wine 🍷 is great! Staff 👨🍳 is friendly, welcoming and professional, service is quick ⏲️, the ambience 🎶 is great, and they have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. 🪑 This spot gets crowded 👥 so definitely make a reservation 🛎️ online 🖥️ in a advance or arrive early! ⏰ I wish I came here sooner!
This restaurant has good food, ambiance and service was quick .it was crowded ,we didn’t had any reservations but we got the table in 2min definitely quick .it’s a bit pricey as compared to other middle eastern restaurants .
We are strictly vegetarian so we had a limited options in the menu so we tried
1-Suamc Fries -comes with garlic dip and one more sauce but we opt out for that because that has egg in it.
2-Traditional Falafel -comes with pita bread salad and Tahini,2 Hot sauce (cute bottles).
3-Mezze and dips tower —it is must try if your going for first time because it’s a combination of different appetizer all in one portion size is good for 2-3 people.
Overall great restaurant to visit ..must try once.
So people who are vegetarian and don’t consume eggs as well please do specify that because they do have eggs in some of their sauce in vegetarian menu.
Enjoyable, delicious Middle Eastern spot in east village. Second time been here, highly recommend the Lamp shish which was super juicy and delicious. Hummus will be my second recommendation, real hummus which is hard to find in NYC. Great service, thanks to our service Zorbey for his great service.
The food here is definitely top notch. If you’re a party of 3 or more get the table top shawarma, it’s a whole production! Also, the entire staff is very attentive and friendly. Our server, Zorbey, treated us with the utmost care and respect. I will definitely go back!
I enjoyed this restaurant very much. The food was amazing and made me feel nostalgic (chef's kiss )❤️. The staff were very friendly and nice. The dessert was a compliment of the chef😍
HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! A meal for the books. Whatever you do, get the hummus with lamb!! Best I’ve ever had. The staff was great, busy but so crowded that it felt cramped even outside. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu - I can’t wait to come back! Great service as well.
Fantastic mouth watering Mediterranean fare with tasty hummus, falafel and pita bread combo. Their green sauce was super spicy and very flavorful. If you're into spicy food ask for that. Small tables, lots of food and the place turns festive with birthday wishes with fireworks! Enjoyed the evening with friends and a friendly service. Lots of vegetarian options.
Probably the best chicken shawarma I ever had! Portion is pretty good considering that we split it between three girls and still had enough for leftovers for all three of us. Slightly pricey but totally worth the flavour. One of my favorite halal restaurants in NYC now.
Amazing food and service. Food was on point. We got the lamb shawarma as the main and a couple appetizers. They were playing tradition Lebanese music and the energy was high. Ali (our server) was attentive to our needs and would check up on us frequently. Definitely recommend this place
Great location. Very cool. Vibes.
And the food was fantastic. Service was prompt and excellent
The Lamb was cooked nice a s stayed warm. Excellent spot to e joy a great meal that is authentic. Not the fast food sharmwa's that are we seeing all over the place now.
Really, everything tastes just great! A must for anyone visiting the East Village.
This is an east side gem. Authentic middle eastern cuisine. This place is all about the food. Huge menu with many of the expected dishes. Grilled meat, French fries, Tabouleh salad, and maybe the best spicy felafel I've ever had. They couldn't get Lebanese coffee right but everything else was great. I got the mixed grill but the table side swarma is a huge feast as well as a ln experience.
The food was delicious! We went on a Saturday evening without reservation and got seated on the outdoor seating immediately. The service was faster than I expected for a busy night.
Pictured is the famous table side shawarma & it did not disappoint. There was a very generous amount of fries along with it and can easily feed up to 4 people. Be aware that it is on the pricier side (approximately $80) but definitely worth it!
