My favorite upscale restaurant in Midtown West. Located inside the New Yorker Hotel. We celebrated my Friend's Birthday and it was memorable. The food is exceptional and the service is impeccable. A must for anyone who expects a superb dining experience.
What a great dinner find — dinner in a bank vault! Safety deposit boxes on one side, fabric wallpaper on the other. The oysters were clean and fresh, the Caesar salad was a bit overly dressed, and the lamb chops were perfectly cooked. A pretty fun pre-theater meal!
Wow beautiful place, with amazing fine dining on offer, excellent service and the food was amazing. Highly recommended if you fancy a proper steak.
Phenomenal food. The current reviews don’t do it justice. We had a lovely dinner and would definitely come back. The steak was some of the best we have ever had . HIGHLY recommend the potato cake.
My brother and I had a great dinner here.
Delicious steak as a main course!
Wide variety of drinks 🍸
Having a drink in the bank vault where Nicola Tesla kept some of his inventions is cool enough. However, the service and atmosphere of Butcher and Banker makes you feel like you stepped back in time to the Golden Era of NYC. Very cool, unique vibe.
The attention to great service is impressive! The cheesecake was a showstopper.
A must if you’re staying at The New Yorker or if you want an amazing, upscale dinner around Madison Square Gardens! It’s a few steps away from the Subway so perfect if you’re heading to a show.
If you’re a banker, love bank history, or deal with vaults, this is an absolute hidden gem—literally! It’s at the bottom of The New Yorker Hotel. The vault has been restored and the ambiance is unique. Basically a speakeasy in a vault.
The selection of wine was great and we enjoyed our cocktails. We also had the sliders and also a filet —- it was all phenomenal.
This was a really nice restaurant, and a great experience. The resturant was tucked away downstairs in the New Yorker Hotel. It had a very cool speakeasy vibe, and a little adventure to find it. The staff were incredible and made it a very special evening. The cocktails were very good, and came out quickly. We also really enjoyed the food (porterhouse for 2). We were there early on a Tuesday evening before a show, so it was not very busy, and that may be why the service was so good. I don't really have anything negative to say about the place. If you are visiting New York and are looking for a cool place with good food and great service I would give this a try. There are more famous steakhouses in midtown in this price range, but this is a novel spot with a cool vibe and you won't have to eat in a shed on the street.
The braised short rib Wellington was one of the best dishes I’ve ever had. We felt rushed by the waiter, even with a $2,000 dinner check. The elevator to the restaurant was broken and the stairwell going down was so narrow I had to wait for groups to pass before I could go down. The clientele was interesting, which must be why they have a dress code. I would visit again just to get that dish but for no other reason.
Had such a fun experience and the food was great!
It was an incredible night thanks to Chris 💕 he is a wonderful, attentive and kind person!! Our night started very badly due to a super unpleasant and rude waiter, but everything changed thanks to Chris!!! Super incredible food, delicious cuts of meat!!! the chicken ufff!! The girls night out cocktail was without a doubt the star of the night, something mild but very delicious to enjoy! a very nice place to share
This place is cool. I came here for dinner. It’s in the lobby of a hotel and you have to go down two flights of stairs or the elevator to access the place. It is the vault of an old bank.
They kept all the trimmings of the bank in place they have the vault lock door as well as all the lockers as decor.
There are about 20 tables mostly made for 2 to 4 people, with a couple of larger tables for larger parties. I highly recommend trying the steak here, it’s outstanding.
this is an old-school white tablecloth kind of place. Service is good - everyone was helpful and accommodating. The portions are on the larger side so order with that in mind. order. I highly recommend the chocolate cake when you come here
The place is really amazing and the food excellent. The restaurant is located in a former bank vault, in the underground of the New Yorker Hotel, and it is beautiful. We are meat, a 12-hour cooked ribeye and a hangar steak, and they were delicious, perfectly cooked and prepared. The service was exceptional, our waitress careful and happy to advise. A unique experience close to Penn Station (entrance through the hotel, not really visible from the street).
Hidden gem. If you don't know where it is you will miss it . Downstairs in an old bank vault. Food was good. Crabcake, creme spinach, mashed potatoes and new york strip steak. Steak wasn't as tender as I would like buy great flavor.
