Great Surprise. After hours of browsing, we were hungry and thought it would be nice to sit out on the balcony for some coffee and to recharge. We were right! We split the chickpea bruschetta, which was phenomenal. Really fresh, great tasting ingredients, and way more than we expected for the price. That was enough for two, so we didn't try any other dishes. Coffee was good too.
A visit to the Cantor Roof Garden Bar at the Met Museum is an absolute must. Not only can you enjoy a captivating exhibit, but the panoramic views on offer are nothing short of breathtaking. While we didn't indulge in any drinks, the overall ambiance and setting were truly splendid. Here's a tip: make the most of the extended hours on Fridays and Saturdays, as the museum remains open until 9pm. The evening hours present the rooftop in its most enchanting light, although be prepared for sizable crowds. During our recent visit last week, the space was brimming with visitors, attesting to its popularity.
I've been to the Met numerous times. At first I wasn't aware about this rooftop access. Then I knew about it but never remembered to make it a stop. I finally made it today thanks to "The Roof Garden Commission: Lauren Halsey" exhibit!
The rooftop (elevator to the 5th level) has a good view of the West Side skyline across the Central Park. It'd have been worth a stop by itself, but now with Lauren Halley's Egyptian themed exhibit, the wow factor has more than doubled. We spent a good 30 minutes to soak it all in.
There is an outdoor bar right next to the entrance. You exit at a different door which leads to stairs down to the 4th floor instead of elevators. I didn't ask but I would presume a wheelchair bound person would be allowed to exit from the entrance.
Use the side entrance on 8th if you live in NYC for quicker access.
The bar opens late May.
Amazing views and they had this artist Egypt exhibit that was so cool! Great views!
This place is such a hidden gem 💎 in NYC! When visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art 🎨 look for the elevator that leads to the roof. The roof has an ever-changing display of sculptures 🗿 Go in the afternoon for a marvelous view of Central Park 🏞️ and Midtown 🏙️ - so iconic! 🌇 Great spot to grab some Instagram-worthy pictures 📸 I wish it was open more often (and that the elevator was easier to find)!
I've noticed no one has recently added the menus. This is up to date as of May 26th 2023. The drinks do get you drunk. I ordered two and felt it. Rooftop is always beautiful. Great scenery.
Always love the rooftop at The Met. Was slightly disappointed that they didn't have their cocktail bar set up yet when we went, but overall great place for Central Park views. Interesting new installation to see as well.
Totally WORTH IT. The MET in itself is worth visiting, and this is a nice bonus at the end of the exploration. The views of the city from here are amazing and I’m happy with the basic drinks and snacks they offer.
I can see how it would not be worth it if you’re looking to go to only the rooftop with the tickets, however, I do suggest checking out the museum (or at least their new exhibitions). They really do not disappoint.
Great views of the city and if you time it right you will see a spectacular sunset. Drinks are pricey so be prepared to pay.
Can get a bit windy and hot, the line to the bar is long, but the view is spectacular.
Love this place, haven't been there for some years but long for next opportunity. It's the view and atmosphere that get's the score / grade, not the drinks or food.
This is one of the highlights of the museum. Only open during the warm months. Great views all around Central Park and of the skyline along Central Park South and Central Park West. Every year a new work of art or collection of pieces. All are very contemporary. I am not usually too impressed by The Works up here. But it is fun just to come up.
The sun sets was great party!
Great rooftop to relax and see the city after visiting The Met. No seating and little shade but an unbeatable view. You can get sandwiches and drinks at small counter serve locations.
It has the best view in the city because it’s not too high where every thing looks like a dot. And the veiw is unobtstucted for the most part because of the openness of Central Park. Here’s where you fly just above the trees.
Great views of the building lining up along the Central Park. Would like to check out the same during the fall colors.
