Went in recommendation that this place was good and had great dumplings. This place had great modern Asian decor located in NYC Chinatown. We tried a lot of their dim sum menu. The one that surprised us the most was the oxtail bun. Was the best out of all the things we tried. The next best was the 5 spice quail. They had these fried leaves as garnish and was surprisingly good. Such a good aroma to it and crunchy too. It was fried and had a good taste to it. The disappointing dish was the lobster and shrimp toast. The toast was so oily. Didn’t see or taste much lobster. It is all shrimp. They have a pickled vegetable on top of a marinated dried squid and the toast was cut into 4 pieces. The garnish was more interesting than the actual dish. Didn’t enjoy the over the top oily toast. The dumplings we had all are nothing to write home about. The squid ink noodles were super oily. I don’t know who has a taste for oily stuff. I personally can’t stomach it. The noodles so had a bit of sour flavor, I’m guessing out in to counteract the oil. Didn’t work. The last dish we had was the spicy fried chicken. It is pretty spicy but very good. They keep the place pretty dark. Service was great. Recommend you try it at least once.
Highly recommend! The ambiance is amazing! From the service, to the food and drinks…. All top notch. The best fried rice I’ve ever had in the city. Definitely something to check out if exploring the Chinatown area.
Came here for a work dinner. The everything was so good and we also got the duck on top of our group menu. The duck I personally don't love, I personally like the traditional kind more with the regular pancake wraps. But it interesting to try this kinda duck for the first time, kinda like kbbq. We really enjoy the cocktails here as well. Will definitely come back to try more drinks/food next time!
The best anniversary experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant. During the meal there were some uncommon slip-ups that were highly unusual for Chinese Tuxedo.
After we finished eating and left the restaurant, Lachlan the bartender then asked us how the meal was. We told him about some of the issues and he immediately offered for us to come back inside for a free drink. He was incredibly hospitable and showed us some of their house made tinctures.
After that we were treated to some fantastic sparkling wine from Oregon, as waves of managers came up to apologize about our experience. Finally, the general manager offered for us to come down to their bar Peachy’s. When we arrived there was a bottle of that wine on a romantic table in the back. The peachy’s manager came up to us and was incredibly friendly, and wished us a happy anniversary.
We enjoyed the rest of our evening in an amazing and vibrant setting and most importantly we will always be coming back to Chinese Tuxedo!!!!!
If you are booing for a large group, general reservations in the main dining room open 14 days in advance. Set a reminder on your phone and book on Resy at midnight the day reservations open. You can book groups up to 12 people through Resy. You will be required to order the 88 Tasting menu. It’s delicious but it’s lot of food (maybe too much food). We ordered for 10 people and everyone was stuffed by the end. We had a huge paper bag full of leftovers. Cocktails are good but expensive, just expect that going in. All cocktails in Manhattan are around $20 each these days. It’s a fun environment and the food is great. Of course the location can’t be beat.
A great dinner spot for birthdays and celebrations! They have tables for large groups and the ambiance is great. We had food family style and the portions worked for sharing with a small group. Everything was delicious and interesting
Wow the food here is great. The hamachi was the best (better than Nobu). Oxtail buns are a must. I came here for a team dinner and did the banquet hall pre fix menu. We enjoyed each dish. Our waiter was great. Drinks were a perfect combination of ingredients. Great atmosphere! I would return
I had dinner with girlfriends, it's a sharing plate serving style. The service was very good, our waiter Nathan was on point with the descriptions and reccomendations of the dishes. I will definitely try to come again.
The variety of food to choose from is great! Our server gave us recommendations that we really enjoyed. You can't go wrong with the drinks either - 10/10
We came to Chinese Tuxedo to celebrate all of our bdays and accomplishments recently & the service made our experience unforgettable. We were given green tea shots & dessert on the house & connected to Peachy’s bar right down the steps afterwards.
I attached photos of the meal we experienced along with our favorite drink of the night.
1. Hamachi Crudo
2. Spicy mi goreng nooodles
3. yellow lantern fried chicken
4. crème brûlée chinese custard tart
5. This drink was the most beautiful drink I have ever tasted. I just forget the name.
♥️
One of our random finds when walking through Chinatown. After walking in to just have a drink at the bar, we quickly realized we walked in on a gem. Great selection of cocktails and the bartenders were very knowledgeable/interactive. We will definitely be returning to actually have dinner, reservations were highly recommended.
Best place to eat in NYC! And definitely one of the top places to eat in the world! Amazing food! I can still taste the pork dim sum and eggplant (aubergine) but nothing beats the quail! I love chicken wings but now have fallen in love with fried quail wings!
Wine selection was very good for NYC too with a variety of wines.
So all in all, whilst the places is off the beat and track, it is busy and well worth the visit for amazing food and amazing service!

Had a great meal!! The crispy eggplant and the Duck did not disappoint. The lobster noodles were great!! Too many dishes to name. Very trendy place with a speakeasy, will be back to check out the speakeasy and try more dishes.
Really cool spot in the middle of china town. Basically a v swanky Chinese.. great for impressing out of town friends that dont want to rough it at your classic chinatown restaurant! Loved the atmosphere, cocktails were great and all the fab classic chinese flavours.. the aubergine wasnt anything yo rave about considering it was their signature dish in my opinion.. all a little on the pricey side but your paying for the experience would defo go back!
I visited Chinese Tuxedo with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday, and we had a great time! The restaurant has a lively atmosphere, but it can be quite loud, so keep that in mind if you're looking for a quiet night out. The food was excellent - we ordered several dishes, the standout for me was the squid ink noodles. But the real highlight was the drinks - they were creative, expertly crafted, and absolutely delicious. If you're looking for a fun place to celebrate a special occasion with great food and drinks, Chinese Tuxedo is definitely worth checking out.
It is an awesome looking restaurant with some good food. I think we liked the fried chicken the best + the crispy pork and chive dumplings. It was kinda dark if you sit near the bar.
Absolutely solid entry to the NYC Chinatown Scene! Can't say that the place warrants a Michelin star but for a local eatery it is innovative and well executed. Went here with friends for dinner.
Dinner was excellent. The food was impeccable:
- Hamachi Crudo
- Burrata
- Oxtail Buns
- Shrimp and Sesame Toast
- Sirloin
- Branzino
- Creme Brulee
I have not been dissapointed with any of the dishes we ordered. To be completely honest the food on the menu can be ordered by randomly dropping pins and pointing over to anything on the menu. It is that good.
Music can be a little softer though but I get why it is not.
The food was wonderful, perfectly seasoned, super tasty!! But the service was terrible. Our reservation was for 10:30pm, we arrived at 10:11pm and sat down. The waiter brought the menu and said that we had 8 minutes to choose what to eat as the kitchen would close. How do you make reservations available for 10:30pm if the kitchen closes before that time? I found it extremely rude for the waiter to rush us and come every second to our table to ask if we had already chosen what to eat. I found the price amazing for the food and the size of the portions offered. The food was very very tasty, but the service and the issue of reservation times, which they apparently cannot keep, left a lot to be desired.
