Absolutely amazing food and ambiance. Chef Kurt Gutenbrunner does not disappoint! Must visit! All our friends were raving about the Easter lunch and great wine list. A beautiful restaurant with large windows and tasteful furnished. The art on the the walls is also noteworthy.

Love this place. Atmosphere was great, the food delicious, and the staff extremely accommodating. The owner greeted us during our meal and we were able to admire his portrait hanging in the dining room while we ate. My parents were both born in Austria which makes this a special place for me.

Hands-down one of the most spectacular hidden gems in the entire city. Food quality competes with that of NY's finest restaurants without the pretentiousness and overwhelming price tags. Service is absolutely impeccable - kindest and most knowledgeable waitstaff I have yet to meet. Your first visit and you already feel like a regular. Ambiance is romantic, cozy, and welcoming - feels like home but oh, so much better! You simply will not experience German/Austrian fare like this anywhere else. Lastly...I hate to give away my little secret but they have the absolute BEST culinary technique when it comes to cooking their lobster. If lobster is on the menu, don't walk to Wallse...SPRINT!

Have been going to NYC for Black Friday for the past few years. Always wrap up a day in museums with dinner here (close enough for my birthday that we make it the occasion). Always great food. The temptation for many, I imagine, is to lump German and Austrian cuisine together, but in fact they are very different, if related. Being German myself, I enjoy the robust dishes of Mitteleuropa, but Wallse elegantly reimagines even the familiar (like Wienerschnitzel). Most diners won’t have had the exposure of fine Austrian and German wines on offer, which will be unique to most American palettes (Grüner Veltliner is becoming more available, but Blaufränkisch remains largely beyond the ken of most diners here), but which compliment the dishes perfectly. Perfect for romantic eveinings and special occasions. I plan on continuing our Black Friday tradition for years to come.

Place is great - staff, food, service, all wonderful. If you’re on the fence remember this has been at Michelin star level for 23 years - the sheer consistent brilliance required to execute that, is unthinkable. The schnitzel is the finest I’ve had & the desert, Salzburg nockerel - DAMN that is delicious. Wonderful experience. Easy 5*

What a treat this was. How Wallse never hit my radar all these years is beyond me. Our meal was amazing - I loved the foie gras terrine with pear gelato and requested extra brioche to finish it! The schnitzel was out of this world and compliment by a perfectly recommended Austrian white wine. I look forward to returning!

I was here for my birthday last night. It’s a very unusual restaurant in the west village. One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in New York for a long time. First of all, if you’re looking for a restaurant with a reasonable noise level, this is a place for you. The staff is very attentive and knowledgeable. All the dishes were outstanding, from the presentation to the quality of the ingredients. I had the smoked salmon as an entree (excellent), and the schnitzel as an entree. We all had the schnitzel: out of this world! So light. My friend had the strudel for dessert (very good) and I had the best dessert of the house: kaierschmarren. TRY IT!!!!

An authentic restaurant with a great interior design. I can tell that the service was above professional. They are so many wine 🍾 options so might want to go there to try them, they also have exotic cocktails with Austrian items. The menu was a little bit confusing to me as a first-time guest but they were helpful to make sure we are not lost. The prices are high so our expectations were excellent seeing and taste the duck was really good and the schnitzel but there were few items in the plate that weren't fresh in fortunately. There's something romantic about this place and it's a great place for a date.

Very pleasant surprise for me, as I never expected much from Austrian food, but both appetizers and desserts are tasty and creative.

First time, but definitely not last. Diners can splurge with many courses, or pick and choose from many items on menu. While reservations are advised, there are some tables available for walk-ins. Eating at the bar seems to be popular as neighborhood meeting place. Staff was friendly, accommodating and handled all requests with grace and efficiency. Delightful experience!

Outstanding flavors and phenomenonal presentation! The duck break is extremely flavorful, juicy, and tender. It's cooked perfectly. All of the little garnishes on the plate also taste amazing. The salmon strudel is very delicious as well. I personally think the duck breast oushone everything! Go get it!

Delicious food! Beautiful presentation!! And impeccable service! The duck entree was unbelievably delicious! The art decor and background music add so much charm to the ambiance. All around a wonderful dining experience! Pricey, but to be expected for Michelin rated spot. Expect to spend $250 for 2. And it was worth it!!

We had a very nice brunch here. My soft boiled eggs were delicious, the spätzle nice, not as interesting as they could have been, but well made. Linzertorte was very authentic. My wife had the quinoa salad which was also nice. The ambiance is inviting and bright. I liked it a lot for a daytime meal. Service fantastic. We really enjoyed our time here very much.

A very nice Austrian themed restaurant owned and run by a Michelin starred chef Kurt Gutenbrunner. Quite democratic prices and decent portions supplemented by a good choice of European wines and biers. Its not my first visit and most definitely not my last. Desserts are heavenly and “palachinken” (delicious crepes with apricot jam) is the jewel of the food crown. Service is quite attentive. There are vegetarian and gluten-free choices

Brunch was such a delight! The atmosphere was so relaxing, the staff so generous and helpful, and the food was amazing. I cannot wait to return and try the dinner menu. I have been twice, for brunch, and the food and atmosphere has been top-notch twice. I am hoping to return for dinner in the not-too-distant future.

Simply one of the best Michelin restaurants in NYC (out of 24 we have dined at). Amazing food, successfully combining the artistry of haute gastronomie, national traditions of the Austrian (and broader Central European) cuisine, and down-to-earth sheer deliciousness. Neither will a visit to Wallsé break your wallet, for it is one of the most affordable Michelin star-studded restaurants in the city. Very relaxed and laid-back setting, comfortable dining areas inside and outside, beautiful location. Impeccable service. Since the restaurant doesn't have it dessert menu available on its website, please refer to the picture of the dessert list we included in our review. More than highly recommended. A perfect dining experience. PS. Presently (August 2021), one won't be admitted without a proof of vaccination.

An outstanding Easter, 2022 meal. Courses well timed, wine recommendations spot on, staff is courteous and professional but not stuffy. Every plate shines, from the flavorful steak tartare to the spectacular apple strudel. No pretentious gimmicks or flavours-de-jour, just solid cuisine in a lovely art-filled setting.

Five stars for its vibe (relaxing, talkative, people being themselves). I went on a wrong date (a date before the appointment), hostess was helpful and she changed my appointment and let me sit there on the spot. Tasty food, but the taste could be more delicate. Price is relatively more affordable compared to other Michelin restaurants. Photos below (in their order of appearance): white bamboo shoot soup, salad with rabbit and mushrooms, lobster (new addition to the menu), and a dessert whose name I don’t remember, but tastes good. I would definitely recommend to come and try this restaurant! You can use it to relax, socialize, celebrate birthdays, and try a Michelin whose price is not too intimidating (I spent $130 for three courses and one dessert, and was very full). :)

Great hi-end takes on classic austrian food. Starters with rainbow beets and artichoke were exquisite. Arctic char was among best fish courses I’ve had in NYC. Desserts were also top quality, elegant and tasty. Wonderful atmosphere, great for dinner and conversation. Loved the mix between neighboorhood vibe and Michelin quality food. Friendly, knowledgeable and funny staff. Wir werden zurück kommen!

Beautiful flavours, presentation and wine. Certain dishes are absurdly priced, but at least it all tastes wonderful and portions are (mostly) generous. I’d go back just for the creamy, decadent palatschiken.
