Awesome Mexican food in the East Village. The menu is full of authentic fare, far beyond the typical fajitas and quesadillas that prevail in America's version of Mexican food. A delightful surprise was Jicama - a tuber that is popular south of the border but relatively unknown here.
The ambiance is quaint and the service is great. A small party room in the back is perfect for small private events.
I definitely will come back to La Palapa.
Management was so helpful. When my were running late, they held a table on the patio. The service was prompt and accurate, friendly and accommodating. The brunch was delicious. This is our number one place for brunch.
The food is authentic and delicious, the staff is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, and the margaritas are to die for. I always love to go here with my friend who lived in Mexico. He says it feels like home!! Highly recommend.
Best authentic Mexican food in the Village! Try the crepes de huitlacoche -- fabulous and my husband adores the ensalada con nopalitos. Everything is fresh and reminiscent of the best meal you had south of the border.
Best Mexican food in Manhattan, quite possibly the best north of the border. The very best.
We had an awesome time there for my Birthday. All my guest loved the authentic cuisine and drinks. Our waitress Mair is the most efficient server and fun!
Everyone wants to go back.

Banging happy hour! Margaritas with actual fresh citrus juice and three dollar tacos and 4 dollar apps from 4-7pm... Can't be beat with half price Margies frozen OR on rocks!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Best 15 bucks I ever spent!
My husband and I have been going for ten years now......love it and recommend it to all!
La palapa is one of the best Mexican restaurants I have ever been too and the enchiladas verdes along with the guacamole are amazing!
Nice happy hour at the bar from 4:00 to 7:00 with excellent $5 frozen or rocks margaritas and several good appetizers. The vegetable enchiladas are delicious as is their guacamole.
One of the best happy hours in NYC
The best! Whenever I am in New York City, I try to include a visit to La Palapa.
Always delicious and low-key, and the owner does a lot for the community.
My Daughter took me there for the FRIST time she been there and I Loved it the waiter was so nice the food was great ♡ Now I'm taken my Honey ♡
Our first night back in New York in a year and this time staying in the East Village. My partner chose this restaurant amongst the many in the area.
We arrived at 8pm with no reservation and were escorted to a seat easily, although within another 20 minutes the place was busier.
Our waiter was very attentive and took our drinks order quickly - the usual for us - sangria and margarita.
I ordered taco with brisket and quesadilla filled with pulled pork. My partner order a burrito which was cold in the middle so he sent it back to be reheated.
Generally the food and drinks were served quickly so you could be in and out of here in an hour.
Notes: service was great, wheelchair accessible (in the front of the restaurant), kid friendly, music and general noise is a little loud for my liking, generally a younger crowd on a Saturday night, atmosphere is pleasant.

Super friendly service. Had 4 vegan options for tacos. Also the guacamole with corn chips were vegan and great. Really enjoyed the food and the service. Would definitely come back. Also good frozen margaritas! (Tried the lime one)
Food is good, service great, I would return if I was in the area again. Think my food was different from personal preference but still good.
Food: incredible! 10/10
Guacamole was perfect! Highly recommend. A few at our table loved the enchiladas with salsa verde. I loved the posole soup. Sangria~ so-so
Ambiance: 5/10 way too loud and difficult to converse with a long table of people. Bathroom was out of soap.
A cute and very authentic Mexican spot in east village. Went there for a late brunch. Our server was incredibly sweet and helpful. Noting that I could get only vegetarian options or fish, she guided me through the menu and even offered to get me a Virgin pina colada. My friends who were with me also loved the place. We got the following dishes:
1. Guac with nachos - fresh and creamy
2. Corn on the cob - covered with cheese and lemon and spice
3. Eggs on top of a base of corn and beans in a gravy sauce - really filling !
4. Fish tacos - fresh but a little overpriced
5. One friend got a chorizo quesadilla which she loved.
The three sauces served on the side were delicious.
For drinks I got an iced coffee, another friend got a margherita which they are know for and another got some tea.
Service was prompt even though the place was super full! We got nice seats near the window.
Great for big groups. Sadly the meat was not halal.
Had a delicious dinner here in the bustling East Village. Amazing menu with lots of very interesting Mexican dishes. It’s quite a scene so I suggest making reservations and it can be a little noisy but I highly recommend it. Service was really good and friendly. Food was delicious. It’s pricey but to be expected in New York City.

Great dinner at La Palapa! Guac and Pico De Gallo with Cumin Chips, Sangria with Hibiscus, Brisket Quesadillas, and churros. Everything was fresh and delicious! Andrew was the friendliest and best waiter too ... we will be back to try more!
We found La Palapa on the internet and it was just a coincidence that we chose it. Thanks god we did. The food was absolutely fantastic! The card is a bit confusing first but it’s not a problem at all. The atmosphere was lovely, the staff was friendly and kind. You get water for free and the other drinks are in between a normal price rate. My friend had a margarita which was double amount of a normal one for the same price! We will definitely go there again!!!
Perhaps Manhattan's best Mexican restaurant, with a wide selection of authentic traditional Mexican dishes that you don't always find in TexMex restaurant. Nice vegetarian and vegan options, spacious seating, with an especially efficient and friendly staff also
Delicious! Tacos & more interesting menu selections are available. Great guac!
Really glad we went and checked this place out. Great service! Nice place - a little on the pricey side. Entrees were $20+. What we had were tasty!! Especially loved their chipotle sauce! Frozen margaritas were very nice too! Would definitely go back. 👍
Nothing fancy but excellent food and service. I went for a special event and they had tons of delicious passed appetizers.
Guac and sauces with it are incredible! Customer service is sometimes amazing and sometimes so so. I wish they prioritized it which would change the atmosphere completely, by making customers feel more welcomed.
We came here last weekend for a quick late afternoon lunch / early dinner. We were quickly seated and overall great service! At first it was really quiet as I noticed there was no music playing, so I ended up hearing other people's conversations, but the staff realized it was quiet too and got the music going. The drinks were good, we just missed boozy brunch, so we still ordered drinks, we did get a margarita pitcher, the only one thing I'd say is that it was a little more sour than I'm used to, but with that said, I needed a drink and it's still a drink that didn't go to waste. The food was also delicious and we were full!
