You can easily miss this inconspicuous place which is not only small, but also covered from the outside world with small pieces of paper attached to the windowsills. Inside we find a space which is one big artwork, laid-back staff and a short menu with just a couple of sandwiches to choose from. I went for the chicken sandwich with coleslaw and gravy on a buttermilk biscuit. It was awesome, though a little too greasy for my taste. They definitely made the right choice of ingredients and if the pork, beef and goat cheese sandwiches are equally well-balanced, then I envy the people who live in the neighborhood! Also, their hot ginger tea made me survive a long walk home during a chilly November afternoon. All that for less than 10 USD, though I have to admit that had I been really hungry, I would have ordered two sandwiches - a single one might not be enough for some looking for a more hearty lunch.
Had a hard time finding this little shop because the door was covered with menu items. Their food was great and the prices were reasonable. Ordered the best seller which was a biscuit with fried chicken. They told me that everything was made from scratch (biscuit, gravy, buttermilk batter for chicken, slaw). š
Went on an adventure for the perfect background for a friend's Instagram campaign and discovered this 'hole in the wall' sandwich shop. Located in the Lower East Side, you could easily miss this hidden gem if you aren't paying attention.Ā
With a friendly staff and a cool interior design i liked this place from the second i walked in the door. Cheeky's has some seating but if there more than 5 people in there at once it would become a little tight on space. Although i am still unsure of its true meaning, I loved the white wall with red writing that read "A toast to the ducks that live in the swamp: never lose a feather & that's the weather". Ā
The menu here may be small but the sandwiches are out of this world. I ordered the Chicken Cheeky Sandwich and was impressed as soon as i took my first bite. The fried chicken, gravy, coleslaw, and biscuit were the perfect combination of unique flavors . This was definitely more than your average deli sandwich.Ā
I can't to come back and try more on the menu (including the Chicory Coffee)
Cheekyās doesnāt exclusively serve New Orleans fare but their small menu is packed with some favorites like poboys (shrimp, oyster or Ā½ & Ā½), a veggie muffalata and of course, the ever popular beignet (or Ben-Yay! as they call it).
The shop is small with seating for perhaps 10-12, but the service is as friendly as it gets so belly up to the little bar and have strike up a conversation. When we stopped in we chatted about the seasonal Abita beer they had on draft (which was amazing I might add) among other things. I still canāt get over how welcoming everyone was. It was like being at a friendās house for lunch.
We were hungry and wanted to grab a bite, picked a restaurant and were heading there but half-way realized that nearby there is this cheap sandwich place with extremely good reviews. We decided to give it a chance and it was the right choice!
It took a moment to find the place because there is no banner or sign, also the entrance looks somewhat abandoned - broken windows and pale color. It took some courage to come in, but it was worth it. The place is very casual and relaxed, the atmosphere inside is great: music, wall paintings, friendly staff.
We ordered two sandwiches: beef and grass (goat cheese), paid totally 17 usd. They both were freshly prepared and tasted very good but the beef one was simply amazing š». We also got a complementary donut-like sweet snack.
We were eating inside at their only table, but they also have seats at the bar. The staff was very nice and polite.
Overall, I can absolute recommend this place, the food is great, as well as the atmosphere.
A wonderful hidden gem. Itās so easy to miss the door to the shop. I think I walked by twice before I was able to find it. The service is great. The woman at the counter was so friendly and nice. I had the shrimp po boy sandwich and it was so damn tasty and fresh. The French bread was nice hot and soft. The shrimp had great flavors and the veggies were all fresh. She also gave me a beignet to try and it was delicious. They have bar seating and one table on the inside. Definitely coming back to try the chicken biscuit sandwich.
A little hard to find but well worth the search. The service was fast and pleasant. You can tell the owners/workers take pride in what they are doing. I got the chicken sandwich and it did not disappoint. The biscuits are top notch and the flavor on the chicken is really good. So often you get chicken sandwiches that are dressed up with all kinds of things that disguise the lack of flavor in the chicken itself. The toppings complimented the chicken, leaving it front and center. Can you get a better chicken sandwich in the city? Iām sure you can find a few somewhere. Can you get a better chicken sandwich for under $7? Absolutely not. A new LES staple
Good taste, average portions, price seemed average for that neighborhood in NYC.
Tried the shrimp sandwich, which seemed like it was prepared to order. Lots of flavour, think mostly from the sauces used. Wouldn't mind trying the other sandwiches if in the area.
I LOVE THIS PLACE! This is your local hole-in-the-wall sandwich joint. Thereās no signage and itās covered in graffiti and looks abandoned. I walked right past it 4 times before I finally found it and it was well worth the hunt. Not to be hyperbolic, but this was probably the best sandwich Iāve ever had. I had the short rib, but the pork sandwich sounded amazing too, so Iāll definitely be back to try that. There was no wait and I was in and out for under $10 - almost unheard of in NYC. I just canāt say enough good things.
A New Orleans style sandwich in NYC! I had the fried chicken which was nestled into a buttermilk biscuit with gravy inside and purple slaw! The guy also snuck a free mini beignet in my bag! Yay! I canāt wait to try some of their other ones next time Iām in the LES. That whole area overwhelms me with so many food options, but this one is worth a try. Yum!
Some of the best sandwiches I have had. Fried shrimp is one of the best. Nicely hidden and chill. Great comfort food. So many options. Hard workers and top customer service.
I canāt even describe how much I loved this place. Was a bit hard to find (passed it twice), but so glad I didnāt give up. A hole in the wall, but with some seating, I had one of the best sandwich/biscuit combos in my life. Growing up in the south, the biscuits, gravy, and chicken were all on point and reminded me of my auntās cooking. Give. This. Place. A. Try.
Ordered fried chicken with biscuit, gravy and coleslaw. Chicken was fresh and really flavorful. Little more oily as per my liking but no complaints on flavor. It is really small place and you need to pay attention to find the entrance door. Chilled out atmosphere with nice people. Would recommend this place.
One of the best spots in New York City! Southern style sandwiches in a locally ran place. This may be the most messiest meal you eat, but so worth it. place looks very basic and simple but it felt really authentic and unique. The walls have poems and posters to read whilst you wait. Do note that there is no clear sign outside the restaurant and we walked past it a few times looking for it. What is strange is that they had no soft drinks other than their ginger ale. They gave complimentary beignets after we are freshly made that were warm and soft!!! Vegetarian option available which sounds great!!
This place lives up to to the hype! And better!!!! The chicken sandwich is to die for but the half and half on french bread is 10/10 breakfast sandwich was just ahhhh !!! Please check them out! P.s. also VERY budge friendly! All three were only $22 ENJOY!
Vibe is great. Owners are super chill. And the food is very good comfort food.
Iām the last few years Iāve gone more clean and healthy in my taste, and tend to be disappointed by comfort foods, but Cheekyās delivers. Every individual ingredient is packed with flavor and the combinations are expertly made.
Highly recommend the breakfast + salmon if youāre into fluffy eggs and smoked salmon.
My Chicken Biscuit sandwich was straight fire... especially because I got a side of hot sauce that was hot hot hot! Yummy!!! Recommendations did not steer me wrong when it came to this place. Also is a taste of New Orleans with a fresh beignet with every order!!
Super delicious sandwiches and very affordable. Great options for everyone - veggie, breakfast, or chicken/beef/pork.
The space is small, but they do have one table and bar seating. Service is excellent.
Whoa. The chicken sandwich I had was well worth the bike ride my boyfriend talked me into (haha!). We grabbed some citi bikes and headed to cheekys on a Sunday morning. He has nothing but great things to say about this place so I just had to try it. Wasnāt disappointed.
I ordered the fried chicken sandwich that came on a savory biscuit and had gravy dripping over the sides. One word, delicious. I had a coffee which they use Cafe Dumont since the owner is from Louisiana. I also tried the ginger tea. Everything was so good! We also had a small order of beignets which tasted like small powdered balls of the amazing things in life. Please donāt pass those up. Make your visit count!
Itās a very small hole in wall type of spot but was clean and staff was friendly. I canāt wait to go back and bring a friend.
Wow. Amazing Hole-in-the-Wall place with amazing quality food for ridiculously low prices. The Crispy Chicken Buttermilk sandwich is one of the most genuine dishes Iāve had in a while. Service is good but there isnāt much place to sit except on the bar and 1 table in the corner. Great Beignets too!
Awesome, small bite place. Inside is intimate, so prepare to just get the sandwich to-go. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich for a decent price. The buttermilk biscuit and coleslaw and fried chicken complimented each other better than I expected. It's also a messy sandwich. They have several other options I'm willing to go back and try, like pork and po' boy sandwiches.
The Cheeky Sandwiches is a bit hard to find but well worth the search. Itās a small restaurant that serves up incredible foods, all with their own spin on southern cuisine. From chicken sandwiches to pork to beignets, wow, this place is incredible. To make it even better, the staff was incredibly kind and welcoming. Thank you! Greetings from Norway!
Cheeky Sandwiches is a New Orleans-styled sandwich joint that serves a variety of sandos. the interior is a welcoming, worn-in, and has a quirky charm to it. there's one small table toward the front and a bunch of seats along the lunch counter. the space works well for solos, couples, and small groups. need a larger space for a bigger group? there are plenty of public seating options within walking distance. the menu is mostly sandwiches (the are some vegetarian options) as well as a couple of desserts choices. just soft drinks, no adult beverages...it's all about comfort food calories! despite being somewhat of a 'hole-in-the wall"--don't judge this book by its cover bc you will miss out on that NOLA experience in NYC.
got the half and half po' boy--1/2 fried oysters + 1/2 fried shrimp, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, mayo (maybe remoulade), and hot sauce. this seafood po' boy definitely has the crunch of the fried seafood and crispy veggies. it is a nice mice of flavors from the seafood to the kick of the hot sauce. the french roll is nice and airy on the inside, soaking up the other flavors (though it is missing that crispy outside that most po' boys traditionally have). the po' boy is really small. wish Cheeky's used a wide and bigger french roll (size does matter, sometimes! lol) and stuffed it accordingly with more shrimp and oysters as this sandwich is gone before you know it. i would definitely pay more if they made it much bigger as it is a tasty, flavorful rendition of a NOLA po' boy. it costs $8.50 + tax + tip.
the service is superfriendly and chill. the people who work here definitely have a nice vibe that resonates through this no-frill eatery.
