I had the 6 course lunch offering paired with the wine flight. Simply amazing. Easily one of the best meals of my life. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and professional. The food was sublime and the master sommelier must have descended from the heavens
Been to Brick Lane several times, this is a third location on the 2nd avenue/5th Street area. Always the same menu. Had samosas and poppodums to start, both very good, with Lamb Rhogan and Chicken Jalfezi. Good meat and sauces quite different textures and tastes as they should be. Peshwar Naan and house rice completed the meal. They don't have liquor license yet so mango lassies very good.
Quiet at the start of the meal but busy at the end, cozy atmosphere. No complaints, reasonable prices so recommended. A pleasant change from Curry (Murray) Hill..
Brick Lane curry house In east village nice place for Indian food lover .we order here chicken leg with naan and beer and we enjoyed here alot.nice ambiance and excellent service
Although a bit on the expensive side considering it calls itself a curry house, the food was great. A British themed restaurant complete with large flags gracing the walls and English rock music playing with what is essentially Indian fare for food. We had beers with tandoori chicken legs with garlic naan, butter chicken and maa in daal. The food, along with the broken AC in NYC summer heat, almost immediately transported me back to a Dhaaba restaurant in Bombay. The naans were a little bit on the crispier side rather than soft. The tandoori chicken was scrumptious as was the butter chicken. It was nice that they brought us Papad with the beer, reminding me of the customary "Chakhna" concept from home. All in all a good experience.
Not bad. My wife and I ate here a while back and we both enjoyed it. Well prepared food and friendly service. Kind of a trendy atmosphere for lack of a better description. The menu offers all of the standard fare but the spicing of the food seemed toned down for the American palate in my opinion. That's always disappointing to me. A main problem of mine is that I couldn't help but compare it to all of the great old restaurants on 6th street back in the day. Many of those places were legendary and those old chefs were masterful. Unfortunately these places have vanished over the years due to sky high rent in the area. Now there are a small fraction of once was which saddens me. Well at least I still have those great memories!
Good food, Phaal challenge is a cake walk :). Went to do the Phaal Challenge as seen on Man Vs Food. It was hot, but not terribly so. At least to my tastes. :) I did not know there was a time limit, so when the waiter told me I had 10 minutes left I finished my portion. He was fairly impressed with how quickly I put it down.
Wife got Butter Chicken/Chicken Tikka Masala. It was great, but not amazing. The Naan was very tasty and you get free roti with the meal.
Came here cause I saw it on man vs food and have to say was not disappointed. Great curry and a fun atmosphere.
Fantastic food at a reasonable price. The first time my wife and I ate here, we did the lunch time buffet. To be honest, we weren't impressed - not that it was bad, it just wasn't great. Fortunately, we didn't take note of the restaurant. After doing some research on Urbanspoon, we found a restaurant with some good reviews called Brick Lane Curry House, so we decided to give it a try. Once we were seated, we realised that we had been there before and didn't enjoy it that much. But by this time, it would've been too much of an effort to try somewhere else. After all, the Lower East Side isn't well served by the subway system.
We ordered a chicken korma, tikka masala paneer, and plain rice - and we thought it was amazing. We really couldn't believe that this was the same place. The service was great as well, but it was still secondary to the food.
I don't live in New York, I just visit twice a year. But, to be certain, I will be visiting the Brick Lane Curry House at least twice on my next visit.
Midtown address. Small but perfectly formed. Only has 6 tables. Food was good as was the service. Cost matched the food.
Damn good Indian food, son.. This would be my favorite Indian restaurant in New York. If you're craving Indian food with an English flare, look no further. Have yourself a nice pint of Boddington's and let them burn you down with a hot curry dish that's sure to promote a few beads of sweat.
Amazing Indian Cuisine in Manhattan. We ate here after seeing it on Urbanspoon and we're so happy we did. The Madras chicken was hot and flavourful and the Lamb Bhuna was incredible too. The server was very friendly (a fellow Canadian in fact) and also recommended a place for us to catch some Jazz afterwards. The atmosphere was great, everyone was friendly and the meals were tasty and reasonably priced.
Good Indian food. I've been here several times. Most recently, the quality seemed a little off. I remember the food being fantastic, but last time, it was only pretty good. The ginger naan was surprisingly good.
PHAAL. I LOVE everything I've ever had here!!! The Phaal is a bit spicy hot but the mango lassi keeps you cool. Please DO NOT attempt the phaal curry if you are not a die hard fan of spice. Goan curry is a very tolerable and creamy flavored dish and all the the different nann bread options are incredible!
Mmmmm. Had a stellar dinner here- good ambiance, great service, flippin' delicious curry! Highly recommend eating family-style, as all curries yearn to be shared- and you will want some of what your friend has. Plenty of options/styles/flavors to dip your naan in looooooooong after you become full!
Spicy Indian. I love spicy indian food and this place does it right!!
Not bad. Went to Brick Lane tonight to take on the Phaal challenge--supposedly the hottest curry on the planet, complete with bhut jolokia and other fiery chilies. How hot was it really? Not that bad. I've had two hotter phaals before (both in Cambridge, UK) and hotter Thai curry on several occasions. Not for the faint at heart, but certainly doable for serious spice junkies. It actually didn't taste that bad for phaal, either... more flavor than I had expected, which was nice.
Brick Lane itself was just ok though. Nice atmosphere and decent food. Papadams were burnt and peshwari naan was some of the weaker naan I've tried unfortunately. Also, the food is way overpriced for what it is (pretty average curry).
Delicious food - great naan, delicious rice, but everything was very spicy!
A good curry, nothing amazing but would probably go there again.
Bricklane curry house. Went with a friend in search of this hot curry with the disclaimer. For an appetizer I had a shrimp dish with a spicy tomato sauce, while my friend had a bowl of rasam. The shrimp was delicious. I ordered stuffed calamari and my friend ordered goat curry. I sampled the goat curry and it was spicy and well balanced but not overpowering and my calamari stuffed with seafood arrive on a sizzling cast iron pan with an assortment of vegetables with a light char on them, it was good. just good not great. We got naan, and a bowl of korma sauce with a side of rice. All were excellent as well as the kingfishers. The phal (hot curry) was a bit of a letdown. the menu said excruciatingly hot and said if you finish it you get a free beer. It was a bit bitter, lacked flavor ans was not hot. maybe they forgot to put the peppers in or something but it was not hot. I dumped about 5 tablespoons on my rice and managed a little sweat on the brow. I ate the whole peppers from the bowl and no burn. I did not finish it and get a free beer because the bitterness and lack of flavor turned me off. The waiter said that it is hot when you mix it into your food with other curries but to me hot is hot. If it was not hot when i ate spoonfuls of it , i wasnt going to ruin my food with it. Overall I liked it and I would go there again, the wait staff was friendly and attentive. The whole bill for two with beer was $93.00, I have paid more in nj so it is price friendly. Next time I go I am going to dare them to burn me.
Glad we got hungry around this part of town. The chicken in the chicken korma was tender and the curry itself delicious. The place has a nice relaxed vibe.
Food is very fresh and delicious. The decor is simple and stylish. The curry is HOT and will definately make you sweat...but not overwhelming! Overall the food was just right and the prices were affordable.
Phaal. Hot as hell but worth the free beer!
Really good Indian food. It was the best restaurant I went to in a week in NYC
Like Buster Poindexter, this ish is HOT HOT HOT! Ate from the tandoor, still lit my face aflame. If crazy heat is your thing, have a ball.
It looked, from the outside, to bit a bit more upscale of a place than its brethren strewn on both sides of the street surrounding.
I go to this superb restaurant many times since I love the good mood that is unique to this place. The crew is very attentive and well trained. The service is remarkablywonderfully fast. Needless to say, the food they serve is perfect. I visited often and I was never disappointed. The price is modest. I highly suggest this restaurant to all my friends.
this place is incredible. the staff is extremely kind. amazing experience. food was so flavorful delicious and authentic. will come back for sure
Food was amazing. We had different dishes and all of them were super tasty. Service was great! Prices are more than fair. I highly recommend this Indian restaurant.
Came here to check out the spiciest curry challenge. It truly was indeed so hot that we couldn’t even really make a dent to it. But the chicken tikka masala was really good! And so was the service!
Amazing food with fantastic service! Extremely fast, and when we showed up to our reservation half an hour ready, they found a table to accommodate us! Highly recommend
I was so full. Service is typically good. The bill was fair for the quality of food. This place has positive reviews for a reason.
I love eating here. The service was helpful and kind. The place has a nice feel to it.
