Had home delivery: What we ordered had a range of good fish and rice separately with the obvious sauces. It was like building your own sushi which was fun but would have preferred it already made for me. Worth inviting home :)
Excellent service, great value, wonderful sushi. A gem. Very friendly servers. Wonderful!
Intimately small, great food and even greater service!
Very tasty, large selection and inexpensive. The Banana roll was unique and worth the try.
Its very good.. Went on on a Thursday night. Highlights: Yellow Tail, Spicy Tuna, Rocky II roll, Shrimp tempura roll. Generous portions and a friendly and welcoming staff. A low key gem in east midtown.
Nice. Small and comfortable, Tanaka was a nice ending to a pleasant day of sightseeing. The sushi was excellent, service very attentive and friendly and Sunday nights are free drink "Happy Hour." Bonus!
Lots of interesting rolls. Affordable dining in new york! here there and everywhere. wow, i wish i lived in this city. the sushi here was amazing, gigantic rolls for a small price. very friendly staff here.
New York's hottest new little sushi bar on 51st st is Tanaka Sushi. They have some really creative and delicious house rolls like the banana roll with tempura banana (what else) and spicy tuna. Theres the 2006 roll (no idea why that year) with black pepper tuna, avocado, and roe...it's pepperific. There's also midgets, Dr. Doolittles, pet giraffes and sneezing lots of sneezing. So head to tanaka sushi it's the place to see and be seen eating sushi on 51st street.
Great place, kid friendly and cheap! Good service with tasty bites.
Excellent service and quality. Highly recommend for a casual lunch or dinner!
Great bang for your buck and very relaxing atmosphere! And great service!
Great bento box. Excellent presentation. Great quality. Cheap. Miso, salad, sashimi, sushi, salmon and rice
Excellent Sushi, Excellent Price. I went to Tanaka Sushi because it had a high rating and was pretty cheap. What a surprise, it was excellent!
The place is legitimately a hole in the wall and can seat about 20 people, but the wait staff was incredibly friendly (and fast!), everything was extremely clean, the food is fresh and the sushi rolls were inventive. Also, the place was empty, save a few customers who came to sit while their takeout was being prepared.
I had the following:
Banana Roll (tempura banana and spicy tuna), Tanaka Roll (can't remember, but it was delicious) and the New Orleans Roll (which featured REAL crab salad) all of which were incredibly fresh and inventive. I have been looking all over NYC for a place with great, creative sushi at a decent price, and all I have found are sad looking $7 spicy tuna rolls on rice that tastes like Windex.
The food at Tanaka was INCREDIBLY priced, my rolls were 6.95, 10.75 and 11.95 respectively- ridiculous for NYC.
They also had beautiful looking donburi and teriyaki, with generous portions, so I assume their other Japanese food would be delicious.
I highly recommend this place, what a wonderful surprise.
Great place, no complaints!. I went to Tanaka Sushi last night and I must say it was everything I could ask for. First of all, the prices were very reasonable - I had chicken teriyaki (which came with white rice and miso soup) for $12.50 and there must have been at least a pound of chicken on my plate. My food was very good and my companion had a selection of their specialty sushi rolls which were also very, very good.
The menu was quite extensive, if you are looking for anything you would expect on a sushi/japanese menu you will most likely find it here. It also included two pages of chef's specialty rolls. I definitely suggest this restaurant. 5/5
It was a little hole-in-the-wall I just so happen to pass and decided to go in because I felt like some potstickers. I had some awesome Sushi along with some of the best potstickers I've ever had and a couple of Japanese beers. Price was very reasonable especially for this area of New York. Food was delicious. I hardly ever leave reviews and only did because my phone bugged me with a message. Give it a try!
We ordered Sashimi Deluxe and the fish was fresh and ume. My husband ordered the rolls and they came perfectly done. Even the complimentary miso soup was delectable with the right amount of tofu and seaweed. I ventured to order the fried oysters and there were 6 pieces of plump oysters lightly fried. When the bill came, it was also a nice surprise. With tip, we paid $52+ for 2 persons. Very reasonable for a date on Saturday night.
Excellent service and delicious sushi!!
Being tired and German tourists with the fear of getting lost and ripped off in the big apple, this place was such a nice place to eat. The first night we just ordered to take away. It was so tasty and such a good deal that we decided to eat there for our last night in NYC. We were served with the greatest kindness you could imagine. Especially the fact that we ordered tea instead of soda made them really happy. Would always go back there if we ever visit New York again.
Small cozy place, nice and clean. Service excellent (Rita). The shrimp gyozas (Shumai) and the rock shrimps as starters were delicious. the sushi and dessert mochi ice cream... you have to taste it. Happy hour with sake and wine.. I will go back to this restaurant with my eyes closed. The price is according to the delicious and quality of the food and music..
