Mofongo used to be one of those dishes eaten about once every two or three years, always enjoyed but just not a regular part of what was going on inside of my brain. All of that has changed though after a second trip to Puerto Rico, homeland of mofongo, where three different and exciting versions were recently eaten.

Albert's Is More than Mofongo. Last week, I reviewed International Food House, the sister restaurant of Albert's Mofongo House. Now it is Albert's turn. Albert's Mofongo House features mofongo plates, naturally.
Yesterday, a friend of my spouse and I dined at Albert's which shares a kitchen and a chef with IFH.
The amiga selected chivo guisado (stewed goat) which came with steamed yuca and onions plus rice and pink beans. She also ordered a piña colada. I had a mojito and the puerquito asado (braised pork shank) which was accompanied by a small green salad and mashed sweet plantains.
Take home to my spouse consisted of rabo guisado (stewed oxtails) and moro. Moro is the short term for moros y cristianos (the reference for rice and black beans). In Dominican circles, they can be other beans such as gandules (pigeon peas), which this version happens to be.
All was fine with everyone. The puerquito was huge. Yet, I managed to finish it in the restaurant. It was meltingly tender and the skin was extra crisp. The friend took home leftovers and bought pollo a la brasa. My wife had leftovers at home. Servings are generous to compensate as the prices are higher than most typical Caribbean places.

Seafood Cocktail to die for!!!!!!!!. The first time I ate here, I had a mofongo and it was great! But their menu has such a wide variety of other foods, I've been going back and trying new things every time!!

A friend recommended I try their seafood cocktail and it was delicious. Can you say FRESH crab??? Not imitation!! Seriously, if you like seafood you have to try their seafood cocktail. Heavenlyyy!!!

My friend ordered their steak and it's an actual premium great quality cut of meat for almost 1/2 the price you'd get at a fancy steakhouse...

and I can't forget the free pina colada they give you right when you sit down..

I didn't eat outside on the patio this time, but it is really worth mentioning. It's such a relaxing place to eat--kinda gives you the feeling of escaping the city. There's this huge tree in the middle that gives it an oasis-type vibe. Another bonus-you can't hear the bustling noise of the outside traffic, etc AT ALL.

Best Dominican food, hands down.
