I am used to the food truck and got so excited about the opening of the Cantina! Let's talk about the restaurant first. It is immaculate! The industrial feel, lighting and seating is very pleasant. The artwork is bright and bold. It's a great space and even has a corn hole game outside which for me tied the space into the food truck. The food is still fantastic. Prices are reasonable and more choices for the kids. I got the Metzy's style caeser salad that was incredible ! Hush puppies to die for! I love the truck and following it like Wheres Waldo but to have a space you can actually sit down with a server is a nice break. Denise was our waitress and she not only was accommodating but such a sweet person. The other wait staff, bartender and Hostess were very personable and knowledgable about their products! So happy to be able to get the best Mexican food in the winter!!! We waited a long time for this and so glad Erik made it happen! Wish you so much luck and success! It's a hidden jewel that won't stay hidden long!

We always make it a point to stop at Metzy's when we are in Newburyport - don't miss the cuban taco, which you won't find anywhere else, or the queso appetizer - our fave. A great place for meeting friends and it's family friendly.
Definitely take a ride over just beyond the smaller parking lot at the Newburyport train station. A bit hidden but worth the yummy food, nice drinks, nice atmosphere. Someone actually finally figured out if you hang some material it cuts down on the noise level (awesome). Met the owner who stopped to chat for a while. Yummy food, marguerita flights! Can’t go wrong with that. Corn hole in the good weather nice idea. Staff was very attentive and looking forward to heading back over!
This was about my 4th visit to the Cantina plus 1 stop at the truck where it all started for me. I was never a fan of Mexican food, probably because of the ground mystery meat found in many places. After eating a meal at the truck I became a fan. The food is fresh and tasty. Yesterday I had the chicken gumbo. WOW it was awesome. I always try to get the fundito, another awesome choice. I've proudly recommended Metzys to friends that have experienced the same pleasure as I. Yesterday I invited my son and his family to join us, and they have become fans.
Portions are great, prices are fair, and service is outstanding.
I can't wait to get back and hopefully have some more gumbo. It's not like Metzys is around the corner, it's a 40 minute ride with no traffic. It is worth the trip.
I love that Metzy's is so different from other Mexican restaurants! I'm a manager at a traditional Mexican restaurant, and even though I get tired of regular tacos, I always say yes to going here because the flavors are SO amazing and unique. Erik and his staff are also providing exceptional service that you don't always find at fast casual places. Definitely worth checking out the new location!
My Wife takes the train quite often and Thursday we decided to give this place a shot. I am a Food Critic and I have to tell you I was very impressed with the food and service. The Owner (Erik) was very friendly and told my wife and I all about the restaurant. If you take the Newburyport train I highly recommend that you give this place a try, you won't be disappointed. Erik, Thanks again. Larry and Linda Rhodes
Very family friendly and great food and drink selection (the hibiscus margarita was perfect!) great for abreakfast and coffee to go on the weekday commute to work or for leisurely weekend fun.
I will always love the taco truck but nice to have a home base to hang at and have an adult beverage with killer tacos and burritos. The pork burrito, pork belly taco and soups are all stellar, ime. And 3 local breweries on tap, to boot. Service by Denise was quick and friendly. Definitely will be back.
Delicious! Metzy’s was recommended to me from a coworker and it did not disappoint. We will definitely be back!
Had my first experience at the Cantina last night. I knew I loved the food from the truck, but it even exceeded my expectations in the restaurant. My wife and I sat at the bar and our bartender Paul made a great recommendation for an appetizer, the Queso Fundito. Just the right amount of spicy and cheesy deliciousness. Paul also made sure we didn't feel rushed even though we came in closer to close.
I had the shrimp burrito as my entree and the flavor was amazing. My wife had a steak and a shrimp taco that looked great as well. I loved the local brews on tap from NBPT and Riverwalk and my wife raved about her red sangria.
Thanks for a great date night experience, we will be back for sure. I'm thinking lunch today! Lol.

Fresh food and always friendly service. We recently discovered their breakfast menu.. you're missing out if you don't make it for breakfast. Chorizo taco. Enough said.
Fabulous all around! Wonderful food that is tasty and fresh, and a location that is fun and hip. I love the cantina and would highly recommend it!!!
Just enjoyed their Roast Pork Belly taco today for lunch. Unbelievably good! Great food, great service, will definitely be back again!
The food was PERFECT! Consistency, flavor, presentation A+! The waitress is a winner, she politely advised us that the food was getting a little extra time today because the house was full, we appreciated the heads up and decided to stay: NO REGRETS! The best chimichanga ever! Margarita was perfect, street corn a little cold what did not diminish the great flavor in nothing. The environment, the staff and the drinks made the time pass by fast. Great place, great experience! Will come back.
I love walking the rail trail and ending at Metzy's. Depending on where we start, that determines how much I eat ;) I love the chicken chimichangas and tacos here. I have not tried a margarita yet. Usually just chips guac and salsa and an entree. I dig the vibe and the service is great. Prices are actually pretty good compared to most downtown. Parking is amazing since it is basically in the train depot.
Metzys is a cool little mexican fusion spot hidden in the train station. I got their chicken burrito. Its a classic american burrito. Nothing outstanding, but nothing to complain about either. Flavor was good, portions were large, service was good, and the vibe was fun.
It all started off when we arrived at the Newburyport train station. This place was closed and hadn't opened up for the day yet.. and we were looking to use a bathroom! They opened up for us which was very nice of them.
I grabbed a menu and this time I decided after our doctor's appt that we would have lunch and grab a later train. First time and this will be our go to place when we are in the area. We sat outside as other people were and really enjoyed the food.
Good service, Very tasty, Good size portions and I didn't think they were pricey. Thank you for a great lunch..we will be back!!😀
