Simply the best bar at the beach! It's a local hang out because it's got the best location and it's not at all pretentious or stuffy; just a great place to go with friends and play some pool! You can show up dressed to the 9s or just in a pair of jeans and feel relaxed and carefree.

From Illinois, was at Blackie's only one time in 2002. My uncle(Butch Ditmer) was a regular there. Went there in his honor & to meet his great friends. Loved this place & had a great time! Place got very quiet when I decided to sit down. Without a clue, it appears that the stool I plopped my ass on was his personal stool. Never saw so many faces drop at the same time before! Will definitely return, if ever in the area again.

My all time favorite hangout spot when in Newport Beach. Blackies is the only reason I return to California every year. For me it's a destination. I have a sock full of chips I need to cash in one day. I actually found this place back around 1980 just before entering into the Army.

Blackies is Unique. We have both been patrons for over 50 years and have had the honour of being 86'd. Have travelled many times across the Pacific from Australia to share a beer and peanuts with our friends Duffy and Pam and recently introduced some Kiwi (New Zealand ) friends to spread the universal friendship of Blackies. P.S.Please don't close. Jill and Jerry.

This fun, beachfront bar has been a Pierside attraction since it was built in the 1960's!

Blackie's, with a long history, stands at the heart of NPB Ocean Front. We have been coming here for over 30 years. It's truly amazing to see this establishment come to life. This place was rocking! Music was playing, people were laughing, joking and having a great time. Thumbs up all around!! 10/10!

So the 5 star rating only reflect the fact that this place is a real, old style ocean front bar with the requisite old, bearded regulars populating the barstools. Very fun interior, a combination of odds and ends found...somewhere, and disbursed around the bar. Great place, I'll go back. Burger was pretty good. Get a t-shirt.

One of my favorite little bars. We were there so much started to feel like our home town bar.

This place is very fun. We come here quite a bit when in the area. You can get a pitcher for a really good price.

The clear definition of local dive bar loved it. This is the alcohol equivalent to waffle House. Servers are abrupt and to the point and they have to because everybody is s***-faced

For the dive beer aficionado, great spot. Lots of locals. Bartender was on point. The only bad part (not enough to merit a decline in stars) was the thin slice of my orange in the Blue Moon Lager. If you want it in there for the juice, you gotta cut it so I can squeeze it.

Blackie’s is the best little hole-in-the-wall Bar near the beach! A fantastic place to go to hang out with your favorite friends, grab a bite of food and the drinks are great! Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's REALLY a ’hole-in-the-wall’ because of the size (the bar goes on forever!), or it's cleanliness (this place has great staff to clean up after us patrons!); I say it because Blackie’s By the Sea is very unassuming. At first glance when you walk in you might think the same thing, but believe me when I say this ’little hole’ suddenly opens up into one of the best divided bars I've ever seen! The main bar is near the entrance with chairs and tables. As you travel in, passing the restrooms on your left, there is a Live Band Karaoke Bar! No jokes! If you love Karaoke or love to hate Karaoke, after a few drinks you'll be up on stage singing your heart out. *This may only be on Sunday afternoons so call before you go if that's your kind of fun! As you take the Google Maps tour with me, just head up the stairs to a more quiet intimate sort of area just to hang out. But wait, there's more! Up a patch of stairs you'll find the oasis of Blackie’s Best: The sun-drenched outdoor rooftop patio! It might appear small although you won't believe your eyes when you sit down at a table with a cold adult beverage in hand, your closest friends surrounding you, and the warm of that Southern California day -- You'll forget that late project for work or the argument with your noisy neighbors. So just sit back, breath in that salty Pacific Ocean air and enjoy the moment!

I’ve been going to this bar for the last 30 years. Nobody with a man-bun will ruin my night, especially a cocky ginger. Nope!

I grew up hearing about this bar. It was a hangout for my father in the 70s and 80s. Finally, I got to visit not long ago, and I could only imagine the times he had here, I felt at home the minute I walked in the door. Amazing spot, the beer is super cold and delicious! The special sandwich is even better! Hope this place lives on forever.

I continously come here whenever i come to balboa. I consider this the "local dive" bar. It is AMAZING!! Remember, this is balboa so this is old newport/old money so the locals that come to this bar are older white people. Which i dont mind. They are great and very nice to the young people! Right on! They have pool tables in the back and a couple of booths. Nice lil spot. 🏄‍♀️🏄‍♀️🖤🖤

Must go to ocean front dive bar. Great place to stop in for a drink and some peanuts. Throw the shells on the floor and enjoy the great atmosphere.
