The appetizer french fries with jalapeños, brisket and cheese were so flavorful, I could have made a meal of it. The redneck taco was good and unique but was overshadowed by the delicious homemade Mac and cheese that came with it. Long wait so be prepared.

I was driving through Nashville and wanted some BBQ for lunch. Looked up Martin’s BBQ Joint and decided to give it a try. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and a side of baked beans. After they took our order they told us to sit where we wanted. We sat at a table next to the pit and eventually my girlfriend asked what was all over my hands. It turns out it was a fine layer of ash all over the table from the pit. We moved tables and didn’t mention it. When the food came I thought the BBQ was very good the sauce was the perfect mixture of tangy and sweet. The baked beans were also delicious. The decor in the restaurant was old time and well done. I would definitely repeat just stay away from the table by the pit.

My pre-assumption is that if you don’t wait in some type of line while dining in Nashville, then food must not be worth the wait. Was able to try the dry rub ribs, wings, sliced brisket and pork. Those items were good enough to keep anyone returning. The dry rub on the wings was heavy BUT that’s just the way I like them!! Could definitely taste the huge smoke flavor in the fall off the bone tender spare ribs which was complimented so well with Martin’s sweet vinegar & pepper base bbq sauce. Everything was ingeniously orchestrated and executed perfectly. You’ll truly leave with your belt loosened a notch or two.

BBQ is one of my favorite meals. I've had a lot of it in my day. I always enjoy it, but none have come close to Martin's. The workers are friendly and it has a fun atmosphere. The meat smoker is in the middle of the restaurant for everyone to see. The brisket is out of this world. The ribs are some of the best I've had. The meat is always freshly smoked. Sides are pretty good, but the meat is the star here. I 10/10 recommend Martin's.

I'm a BBQ snob and my taste leans heavily towards Carolina style, vinegary Q. I was very satisfied with Martin's. Everything from the ambiance, the meat, sauces, and sides hit high marks in my book. Excellent operation and I will be back for more on my next Nashville trip

Went to the one on 4th Ave. Wonderful rustic atmosphere. Very well decorated and has a classic Nashville feel to it. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich with hush puppies and mac and cheese and was very happy with my meal. Great place and will definitely return on my next visit.

We arrived just after 6:00 pm on a Thursday evening and the line was long, took us 15 minutes just to get up to the only order window.  We had looked at the menu ahead of time and had decided what we wanted.  The order taker tells us that they are out of pork and some sides.  ?? At 6:15 on a week night?  They say on the menu that since everything is made fresh every day that they CAN run out of some items.  I wanted beef brisket plate with two sides and my wife wanted pork, but settled for turkey.

The food came to our table fairly quickly. My green beans had a lot of black pepper, the slaw was good, and my wife had potato salad and broccoli salad. All the sides were good.  Each plate comes with two slices of plain bread, not toasted, not buttered or anything, just plain. (Never heard of Texas Toast?)

All the food is good here, but my complaint is that their success must have caused them to raise prices.  THE MENU PICTURED HERE ON ZOMATO IS OUT OF DATE.  Beef Brisket tray is now $15 and the turkey tray is $14.   Martin's prices seem high for what you get.  Our total bill (including 1 drink and tip) was $39.00.

While we were eating, we discussed that we probably could have gotten the same meal for less at Jim n' Nick's.  I just looked up our last trip to them and the bill included 2 drinks +tip and was around $33.00

What a great place to get some amazing food. Didnt have the pulled pork, but the dry rubbed wings and ribs, along with the brisket were simply amazing. Nothing was bad and the baked beans rocked. Would have loved an Oberon with it!

Dinner here a few weeks back. Saw the restaurant on the DDD show on Food Network.

Arrived around 8:00 and didn't see a lot of folks on a Wednesday night. no issue as that's sometimes the case.  Waked right up and ordered. Sat down and waited. Ordered the dry rub and BBQ platter. (pictured)

The Ribs were ok but frankly I thought just a bit on the dry side. Put some of the basic BBQ sauce over them and all is well. The dry rub spice was good. Probably 4 bones on them.

The Pulled pork was the highlight. This was moist but still had a good smoke and slightly pink color in parts. Some amount of bark but not a lot. If I was going back most likely just get a full order of this.

The slaw I was told was 25% / 75% percentage of vinegar base and Mayo. Mayo being the larger part. It was ok but nothing special.

Came along with a cornbread cake. I saw this on the show and all but really didn't see the flip. Not bad but nothing I'd do again.

Overall a good experience and staff was friendly.

Despite being more food than any one person should consume, I'm proud to say that I ate every bit of my Big Momma Sampler. Martin's met, nay exceeded, every expectation that I had. Although I'm sure that their Mt. Juliet and Belmont locations are great, too, I'm glad that I got to try out the original joint.

Best BBQ in the country! I usually opt for the half rack of baby backs (wet) but everything is good including the burgers and redneck taco. Love the potato salad and green beans. Awesome place I'm so blessed to live within a couple miles of such a BBQ legend.

Really good Q.. We really like our BBQ, and Martin's is right up at the top of the Nashville options we've had so far. We've been several times and it's always been excellent. The dry rub spare ribs are my favorite. Good seasoning and sauce on the side. Their hot sauce does have a kick, so unless you like things spicy, stick to the regular. Pulled pork is great. Smokey and moist. My spouse said the briskett was a little salty for her, but she finished every bit. Of the sides, the slaw is really good, the frys are fine but the potato salad was pretty plain. Service is excellent. They bring it quickly and check back often. One thing I would change is you have to ask for more BBQ sauce. They'll bring it quickly, but I'd rather save the time and have it on the table. Still, one of the best BBQ places available.

Really Good Bar-B-Que. And LOTS of it! Martin’s Barbecue! We had heard about this place on “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives,” and it sounded like just the kind of barbecue we love. We were both anxious to try the “red-neck tacos” that they had featured on the television show. Their “taco” is a large, cornbread, fry-cake filled with massive quantities of pulled, smoked pork and topped with really excellent coleslaw! Again, I think there was easily enough food in one “taco” to split, but we didn’t and were completely stuffed. They also advertised that they had Cheerwine! Cheerwine is a memory from North Carolina. It’s still made in the small town in western NC.

Real Deal. Martin's is the real deal yall. I actually saw this place when it was on that Diners & Dives show on food channel and thats how I ended up going here.

Two things you have to try - the WINGS (his white sauce on the wings is just heavenly) and the brisket tacos. Obviously his pulled pork is great but once you branch out - the whole menu is pretty darn tasty.

Great food, well worth the drive out here. We both got pulled pork platters with fries, but I chose slaw compared to her cornbread cake. The slaw is a little too sweet, but otherwise everything else was amazing. The pork us juicy, tender, and thoroughly infused with smoke. The fries were crunchy and very flavorful. The cornbread pancake was something else though. Worth coming out here for that alone.

BBQ worth the drive!. I'm pretty picky about my BBQ and don't think "it's all about the sauce". I cook with live fire most nights of the week, whether it's grilling, smoking, or fire roasting.

My wife and I were on a trip to Nashville for a Food Blogger Forum and I timed it so we could stop in at Martin's on the way in. This is my second time at Martin's and my first review.

The place is decorated in somewhat a typical "bbq kitsch" but they pull it off. I like the wall mounted menu and the fact they use fresh boxes of produce (potatoes, etc) to help divide the waiting line from the dining area.

On weekends they smoke whole hog but today they were serving smoked pork shoulder which is what I normally do at home anyway.

The service is order at a counter and they bring it to you. My wife ordered the chicken sandwich and pinto beans. The chicken seemed to be a grilled boneless chicken thigh topped with their wing sauce, a sort of remoulade. She loved the beans and the sandwich.

I got a small order of the wings (sauce on the side) and a regular pork sandwich. The wings were obviously smoked but I think they might flash fry them at the time of service (normal for a bbq joint). The sauce was totally different than any wing sauce I've had but in a good way. It's kind of mayo-caynenne-hot sauced based and I think there might actually be tarragon in it. I could be way off but that it was I gathered from the taste. Whatever it is, I liked the wings.

The pulled pork has been excellent both times I have been here. Just the right amount of smoke and sauce.

If you are in the Nashville area, do yourself a favor and check Martin's BBQ out.

Amazing! Drove 30 minutes from operyland and waited in line for another 20, but it was worth it! The dry rub pork spare ribs were the best dry ribs i've had. And let's not even talk about the hand cut fries (similar to wing stop's). My wife ate the pulled pork plate and the vinegar-based BBQ sauce went great on it. I told my wife that this place should be franchised so more people could taste what they're serving at martin's!

Awsome pulled pork; get the RedNeck Taco and go. I have soft spot all around my waist for BBQ. The variations are as frequent as fingerprints so I try sample it where ever I go. I went to my father-in-law's in Nashville TN to pick up a riding mower and decided to test out Guy Fieri's review of Martin's BBQ Joint.

Well, don't let the TV show fool you to believe that they do whole hog everyday. I was really disappointed when I found this fact out yesterday afternoon. Most whole hog joints sell the skin as "cracklin", and if you have ever tasted cracklin you would know its just as addictive as the illicit drug crack. When I tried to order it, I was told that they weren't doing whole hog during the week, only on weekends. WHAT? THAT'S THIER CLAIM TO FAME!!!!!! I'll get to the food in a minute, but you have to be mindful of which Martin's you go to.

There are three of these restaurants in the greater Nashville area, but I went to the one in Nollensville which is just over the hill from the hoity toity Brentwood region of Nashville. This was as close to the original as you can get, since the moved from their original location and went down the road about a mile.

Like the Salt Lick (My favorite BBQ joint in the world) you have to go to the original outside of Austin to get the best version of taste. So I went 30 miles out of my way to hit the semi-original joint to try ribs, chicken, and pulled-pork.

The pulled pork was very very good. I would have to say phenominal is a better adjective. It was smokey, salty, and moist. There was absolutely no need for the sauce, so I just used the cornbread flapjack to sop it up for side flavor. The sauce was very good in its own right, but the pork would have been desecrated by putting sauce on it.

The ribs were good Memphis dry rubbed ribs. Like I said in my review of Arthur Bryant's (the original) in Kansas City, I like my meat to contain flavor without the need for sauce. I think had these ribs been cooked a little less, that flavor would have come through much stronger.

The ribs seemed to be over cooked, dry, and missing something. More salt perhaps, or maybe the essence of the pork had just been cooked out of them while they were sitting in the commercial smoker instead of the seasoned pit out back. One way or the other, the ribs couldn't stand up to the hype created by Guy and his DDD episode "porkapalooza".

Finally, the chicken. Let me just say, that when I was stranded in Fairbanks AK I was always raving about the chicken at Big Daddy's. I thought that maybe I had just been so far North for so long that my pallete couldn't discerne good BBQ chicken from great. Well, I was wrong. My pallete is working just fine, Big Daddy's has great BBQ chicken, and Martin's doesn't.

Two out of three not meeting my mediocre standards is pretty bad. The pulled pork is awsome and you should really stop in and have it; skip the ribs, and skip the chicken. If the opportunity presents itself, I strongly recomend you hit the place during a weekend and see if they have the cracklin available. You may have to start a twelve step program somewhere down the road; however, cholesterol is a slow killer so you can enjoy some savory fatty goodness in the mean time.

True West Tennessee Style BBQ!!!!. Finally! We have a great place to eat some outstanding, west Tennessee style BBQ in middle Tennessee. From the moment I drove into the parking lot, I knew I was in for a treat due to the smokey, sweet, hickory, pig infused air coming through the vents in my truck. The meat these guys serve up needs NO syrupy, tomatoey sauce to to make your palate dance, so please if that's your thing, get it on the side and give the meat a chance first! Martin's has two dry rubs to choose from, several sauce options, amazing sides, and feels as down home as you can get. The folks are friendly and the decor inside is fitting (hopefully they'll put a picture of one of my kills or catches on the wall at somepoint!). Get there early as they only serve as much meat as they smoked the day before and don't mind the long line....it goes quick and is well worth it! I'll be back soon and often.

The beans were among the best I've had. Very rich with a complexity from the molasses, jalapenos and plenty of BBQ. Martin's sauce is quite interesting. It had a flavour that reminded me very much of my own enchilada sauce and molasses. It shared colour and flavour components I get from simmering dried chilies. It had a slight bite without being considered "Spicy" by either of us. In short, we both loved it.
