Very good coffee and salmon cream cheese avocado bagel! Chilaquiles with eggs and coffee is a great deal too the combo is just $10.
Loved Akat Cafe and their delicious specialty roast coffee from Chiapas was one of my favorites in town. Has recently changed hands... now called OakCali, it remains a lovely, kind, local coffee spot with more food and drink options and same pleasant outdoor seating.
Delicious food. Friendly and kind welcome to all. I like the Califas bagel. Pic attached!
Nice, funky/cozy little place. Great vibe. The staff is friendly, as are other customers. The coffee is decent, as are the pastries, and it's a local business. Oakland needs more places like this (they're disappearing in case you haven't noticed). Give them a try, and decide for yourself.
Came here because the breakfast wait at Portal was to much and I was hungry. I love the people and the feel of the place. Unpretentious. Could use some window shades and/or better air circulation, pretty hot inside on a sunny say.
I just got back from Akat Cafe Kalli with the best Americano I've ever had. Jose was very helpful and heard me out on what kind of roasts I like and he pegged me correctly with this drink. The place has a very welcoming, cozy and clean ambiance. Your coffee is ready promptly and by the time it's in your hands you are not sure you're ready to leave the place; it's quite nice.
Finally, a refreshing community-based cafe that diverts from the typical hipster coffee spots. Not only do they have the best drip coffee in the Bay (which is from their partner Sin Fronteras Coffee, a non-profit organization that works directly with indigenous coffee bean growers throughout Latin America), but they also have a variety of drinks with an Latinx twist (e.g. Mexican mocha, Mate Latte). They serve amazing, authentic Latin-inspired grub like chilaquiles, tamales, etc. (their chorizo breakfast bagel sandwich was 10/10). And they display/sell great art pieces from local artists!
There isn't a lot of space to work inside their hole-in-the wall spot, but they always have cute little tables outside to people watch or to listen to the occasional musicians that make their way through.
Lastly, the staff there is phenomenal and truly makes you feel welcome. Akat Cafe Kalli is trying to foster a great community of support and inclusivity, so ya'll should definitely make your way through!
Friendly staff. Great food. Within walking distance from Lake Merritt if you wanna enjoy a nice walk in the morning. Coming here has been my Saturday ritual for a while.
