German food! Modern German food! I love seeing food that reminds me of my childhood. The space is nice, they have a great selection of beers on tap, and the food is very tasty. The schnitzel sammie was delicious. I left waddling, full of beer, meat and bread. A great addition to the neighborhood.
This was to be a 2nd location of the Peninsula Bierhaus, but lease issues made this the only one, for now.
German beer focused with a few Belgians and locals plus some ciders and wine. German food menu too with Wursts (sandos and plates), schnitzel, etc.
I've had the schnitzel plate and a wurst sandwich and enjoyed both. The Swiss Weissewurst had a good snap to the casing and an interesting underlying funk that might not appeal to everyone.
Service has been spotty, but they're new so I give them a pass on that.
Happy Hour is 1:30 (!) - 6pm
Excellent urban beer garden in Oakland, CA. If you manage to get in during a warm (or temperate) day, sitting outside with a liter glass of beer is a fun activity. They offer liter glass pours, if you're up for a challenge.
I had the sausage platter and it was delicious. You get to choose 2 of their sausages along with peppers, grilled onions, potato salad, & sauerkraut. My go to is white sausage & bratwurst. They do have a veggie sausage, if that's your thing.
Definitely will return.
Sign the petition to keep the Bierhaus! Great gastropub, with good food, great service, great beers, and a kick-ass patio on the corner of Castro & California (diagonally across from Cascal, another great restaurant). Last night I had the Euphora Burger (horseradish aioli & fried onion rings with cheddar) paired with a great hoppy Hostage ale, my son Josh had the Bierhaus Burger (tomato & bacon jam, white cheddar, sauteed mushrooms & garlic aioli) with a lager, his GF Aran had the Schnitzel Sandwich (fried pork cutlet, chipotle aioli, red onion, avacadi & feta) with a blood-tangerine cider, and my sweetie Tess had the black bean Veggie Burger with hummus, feta & julienned cucumber along with a Hostage ale. The food and beer were GREAT (go for a burger, schitzel or bratt, not a veggie burger), the service was tertific, and the ambiance on the large patio was awesome! Plus a ton of games! Let's keep this local gem around!
Solid place. Decent beer options. Great food. The fried chicken sandwich was outstanding and fries were good. Fair prices. Only thing lacking was ambience and seating. Popular place and tables were squeezed together so patio was a bit tight to maneuver and felt exposed to the busy streets.
Excellent burgers, plain and simple. Highly recommend if you want a quality burger. A bit on the steeper end of the price spectrum, but doesn't seem to deter anyone since this place is always busy. Check it out.
Get the basket (pretzel, sausage, side)! Beer selection is small, but the three we tried were tasty. When you come, sit outside and enjoy their dog and beer cart!
Good selection of beers of a few different styles from various domestic and foreign breweries, including a few local Bay Area breweries. The food menu is small but the burger I had was very good. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about beer. They also gave us a small sample of another beer that was similar to the style of beer that we ordered, which was a nice touch.
This place is about a ten minute walk from MacArthur BART Station and a block away from Broadway in Oakland's Temescal neighborhood.
