I havent' really found a bbq restaurant that wasn't just mediocre in the OKC area until I found George's. My husband loves bbq and has gone to every bbq place in OKC, and he's willing to eat it even if it is mediocre. I, however, am not. When he brought home bbq from Georges, well, we knew this was our bbq place. Their meat is moist, ribs, brisket, chicken, oh the chicken is my favorite. No bbq sauce needed for this bbq although their sauce is excellent! They have the most fabulous butter cookies (homemade). I'm looking forward to trying the other desserts. I never have room after I eat the ample portions of bbq, but I'm gonna make my way through the whole menu because it's just been recently we've discovered George's. I myself don't like greens but the husband says they are the best he's even eaten. I'd recommend this place HIGHLY!
My husband and I stopped in for a late lunch today after hearing so many people tell us that if we wanted the real deal BBQ in OKC that we had to try George's. All I can say is thank the good LORD we listened. It was so very good. Everyone was nice and patient with us while we stared, wide eyed at the menu and every bite we tried was amazing. We had a little brisket, a little ribs, a little bologna, a little smoked sausage, potato salad, pound cake, corn bread, white bread... the green beans could have been their own meal. Really, really good eatin'. I think I'm done searching for good BBQ in OKC, it has been found.
Let me tell For my 1st time visit I love it the barbecue was on point the desert was even better I truly enjoyed my 1st time being there I will definitely be going back
Okay, so where do I begin...? The phenomenal food? The beautiful and caring heart of the owner AND staff? The kind patrons? The positive energy? The clean place? The taste-bud wrecking desserts?....Just GO!
I tried it for the first time today and the brisket was delish. I recommend this place if your in this area.
Great food, relaxed atmosphere, nice staff and they shared glasses with us to see the eclipse with our kids! definitely worth veering off the I-40!
This was the first time coming here, and OMG, the BEST BBQ I have ever had in Oklahoma!!! I had the Ribs, they were tender and had the best flavor in the world! The staff was very caring, and one staff member notice I had a DALLAS Cowboy shirt on, and we had a GREAT conversation!!! I would recommend this place to anyone!!!
It was soooo good .... The customer service was on point .... will for sure be back .... Thank you all the way from Texas ....
This is a pretty great BBQ place. Our daughter turned us on to it and now I have to get my bbq fix here on a regular basis. I’m partial to the rib ends but just about everything is good. Potato Salad was more like mashed potatoes but they tasted good. I like a bit more texture and crunch.
The best BBQ in OKC and possibly in Oklahoma. The co owner is so sweet and gracious. We love the ribwich sandwich and mouth watering ribs. Order our thanksgiving turkey every year which out of state family members rave about. Great sauce. If I didn't have this BBQ weekly I wouldn't be healthy. Sure wish one was in Edmond Oklahoma!
I made a huge to-go order during their lunch rush, with the line almost to the door, and it only took me 3 or 4 minutes to leave with my order (they have a separate line for to-go orders). They were also understaffed. The order was perfect, the staff friendly, and the food was absolutely amazing. I'm never getting BBQ anywhere else, so there's that.
Happy Hog BBQ is the BEST BBQ I've ever had in Oklahoma, the staff was extremely friendly and efficient. As for the food, everything made from scratch and the most perfect smoky flavored BBQ, the sauce is also to die for. I'll definitely be coming back for more!!! Thanks for the delicious meal Happy Hog!
This place has been on my wish list for a while. I finally made it this week (twice now) and so far like what I have eaten. The rating will change as I try more of the menu. So far I've tried the Ribwich and sliced brisket sandwiches. My lunch friend had the Chickwich sandwich and said it was very good. I'll be stopping there more often....
Great place for lunch time music and food. Try the Bologna hot links and ribs. Family run down home cooking. Great prices for family to go dinners
George's is the embodiment of authentic barbecue. Do yourself a favor and check it out. The food is so so so good. I had the sliced brisket sandwich with Mac and cheese. It was needless to say, delicious. Their barbecue sauce is fantastic! I will be coming here again.
This place has the core fundamentals of my kind of BBQ place. Small. Essence of smoke. Not the best part of town. Staff with character. Good food of course. Ribwhich was probably the best meat. Rob ends are not like KC burnt ends but tasty. Ribs were a little tough but may have just been a bad day. Plenty of sides. The greens and beans were the favorite for us. Then...cornbread. Yes The BBQ bible says "ye must eat BBQ with white bread", but be bad and do cornbread. Only thing missing is pork. Based on the flavored in this place, I bet they would kill some pulled pork. Definitely one of the top 5 BBQ places in OKC.
First time visitor. I went with my father who is a former OU Health Sciences Center professor (so he knows the place and the people). He said it would be great, and it was. We got there after the lunch rush so there wasn't a wait. From what I understand, lunch is usually very, very busy. The staff there is very friendly and the food was excellent. I ordered the rib lunch with Mac n Cheese. It was really tasty. The place was clean, including the restroom. The only drawback is the parking lot is small and in bad shape. But hey, we went there for great food and service, and that's what we got. I will definitely return. (Update): I returned, excellent again. Got the Rib Ends Lunch. The Marvelous Mixed Greens are bomb. I recommend them as a side!
Called in an order for the 3 bone rib lunch with potato salad and it was ready when I arrived ~5 minutes later. I had the hot bbq sauce, wheat bread, and iced tea and was delighted to find a 4th rib in the box (it was tiny....a tiny little treat!!) when I opened it. All this for $8.25! That really can't be beat. The food was exceptional! I'm a huge bbq fan and was quite pleased with this place. The food is top notch. The atmosphere is good...more of a hole in the wall type place that you'd probably not take your first date to, but when you find "the one" then this should definitely be in your go-to list. The potato salad was yummy. The bbq sauce was spicy and delicious as well! Let's just say that since I work less than a mile from here that I'll likely be going at least once a month for lunch (I almost always pack a lunch)!!!! When I was done eating, I was definitely one "Happy Hog" :) !

Best barbecue in Oklahoma City -- hands down.
Go for the mixed greens and rib ends alone -- trust me.
I've eaten barbecue all over the state, but have yet to find a place as good as George's.
Great owner, too -- very friendly and helpful.
Mmmmmm -- perfection. Sheer perfection.
This place rocks my socks as far as the BBQ flavor and the value. I wasn't a huge fan of the sides, but man those ribs are an addiction. I had the rib ends dinner with their greens and mac n cheese. The bread is just sliced white or wheat right out of the bag. Wish it was toasted or warm.
So I am from Alabama and have experienced excellent barbecue in Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi and have tried the Kansas City-style as well (though I am partial toward Memphis-style)... I have lived in Oklahoma for 20 years and was always depressed and saddened that the only barbecue options were the likes of Swadley's (bad) and Earl's (okay) and the rare mom-and-pop places that did not deliver. I work on the OU Medical Center campus and happened to stumble upon George's...hands down the best barbecue within a 4-hour radius. Don't know how I didn't know about this place before. They have a nice variety (though I would love to see more pork options) and eveything is reasonably priced. Only downside have been the desserts: homemade but not great.
Absolutely the best barbecue I've ever had by a solid mile. Everything was excellent including the sides. The folks that run it are friendly, helpful and involved in making sure you get what you came for.
Tasty Q. This is one of the best BBQ places in town. The service isn't fast but it's not what BBQ is about. If you want fast, go to a drive thru. If you want home cooked goodness go here.
EXTREMELY SLOW CASHIER. The food is great. The lady working the cash register is extremely slow. During the busy lunch hour she makes no effort to speed it up. I've seen several customers leave because the wait line moves so slow. I have seen people plan to eat there and have to get their lunch to go because they spend the majority of their lunch hour waiting in line. Quite often the cashier will have to repeat the order to the servers 3 or 4 times because they don't do written tickets....hence numerous incorrect orders. Again, the food is excellent, but the service is slow and unorganized.
Dinner at George's. I am new to this area and a work buddy told me of George's Happy Hog so I thought I would try it and glad I did. I was hungry and ordered the 1/2 chicken with BBQ beans and potato salad plus Chocolate cake, well I enjoyed every bite! I will return.... :-)
SMOKED Beef Brisket, Greens flavored w/ smoked Turkey, BBQ Beans flavored with Brisket (YEA!). DH picked us up 1lb of Q 'to-go' five wks ago or so: I've craved a visit in ever since. Today enjoyed our wonderful OKC Zoo with friends, just 3 miles away. So we HAD take them to visit George's today! This SMOKEY Brisket is so tender and juicy - perfect. I do love their h-o-t BBQ Sauce! We each enjoyed every bite this evening. I think our friends are planning a return visit very soon. Oh, the cornbread was moist and flavorful as well. DH found pickles and jalapenos, I missed 'em. They disappeared quickly from his plate, so must have passed inspection with him. I really am VERY happy to find a new place for my frequently needed Q-fix. I've switched to George's folks. We've only 'known' about George's since end of November, maybe it was in December. Anywho, I hear PREVIOUS owners had really destroyed this business. But these are NEW Owners. All I can tell ya is, the two times we've had their Smokey Juicy Brisket in these last weeks it has been -very- flavorful, lean, juicy...truly outstanding. These folks are so friendly and try so hard. We're very pleased to find this place. My new FAV Q anyway. I'm passing along to folks who'd been previously turned-off, give NEW George's a second look. NOT was I hear was happening there previously.
2 visits w/ good results - looking forward to a return. I have made two trips to George's now. The place took me a few minutes to find. Culbertson is a East-West street between NE 16th & 17th and between Lincoln and Kelly. It is in a building that has been standing quite a while. Heck, George's is a BBQ "joint" pure and simple. Just the way I like my BBQ restaurants.
Both times the service was excellent, friendly and fast, the prices were very good, too. On my first visit I had a 3 rib plate w/ mac & cheese. The ribs were good, but not excellent (they could have used a little more time on the smoker to loosen up the meat just a little) and unfortunately the mac was a little over cooked. The pasta was very soft. My friend had a chopped brisket sandwich and dessert. She was very pleased with both. My second visit was two days later and I ordered a smoked sausage sandwich w/ Lay's chips. The sandwich was juicy and very tasty. It had more meat than I could hold between two pieces of white bread. You get a choice between three types of bread. I enjoyed this sandwich very much and will order it again.
I'll go back soon and try the ribs again and soon after that I'll have a 1/4 or 1/2 smoked chicken. A customer recommended it highly There was a constant stream of local people coming in to get take-out orders. I'm confident the ribs will be more to my liking on my next visit. One other thing, I liked was the strawberry pop from the fountain dispenser.

George's Excellent BBQ is Back. This BBQ was some of the very best, before George passed away in 2009, after that, it went to one of worst. GOOD NEWS! Since 2012, with new management, George's awesome BBQ is back as before, maybe even better if that's possible, with the highest quality real smoked ribs and meat, and of course all of the original great sides and deserts. I'm so glad this real BBQ is back in town.
Wow! Food was awesome. They definitely earn the rating.
The best barbeque ribs I have ever tasted in my life! The coleslaw and baked beans were also yummy. The staff are fun, cheerful, and super nice. This place is now one of our faves. If you like BBQ, you won't want to miss this one!
Sweet Meat. My Qualifications: former Navy pilot, eaten BBQ from Key West to Bangkok...as with all great BBQ, it's all about the meat. I am a vinegar sauce fiend! This is a NO Sauce needed establishment; the meat is that good. I had the rib/brisket combo with mac and green beans. $12 - I've used urban spoon for years, this is my first review.
I love BBQ. I've eaten lots of it, which makes me a pretty good judge of what's ok, what's good, & what's lick the plate good. I've eaten at just about every BBQ place in okc, but this one takes the cake. Outstanding! Everything about it is good. The meats, the sides, and of course the sauce.
Catering for Company Event. Went to George's first to try before buying. Was suitably impressed so we used them to cater our event. We got the Three Meat - Two Sides with desserts (cherry cobbler and sweet potato pie). Everybody raved about it. The three meats we got (sliced brisket, chicken and hot links) were all very good with the best reviews coming for their chicken. The two sides we got (baked beans and green beans) were also well received, particularly the baked beans. I was a little late going through the line to get my plate and the baked beans were already gone :-( Everybody liked their zesty flavor and will definitely order them next time I'm to George's. The hot links had a bit of bite to them as well (as you would expect) without sacrificing flavor. Everybody was asking where we got our food for the event from and from all the comments I received from those in attendance George's has picked up a lot more fans and future customers!
They close around 7 pm. Don't expect to go for dinner in the evening as they seem to close around 7 PM.Since I missed my first opportunity, I have since been back twice for lunch and I must say I love their BBQ. The first time I had the pulled pork, which was really moist and tender with great smoky flavor. The place was so busy there were no open tables, but a very nice couple who were almost finished invited me to join them and we had a great conversation. It was a much warmer reception than this out of towner expected to get.On my most recent visit I tried the 3 rib lunch. For me, the real test is how easily the meat separates from the bone. These ribs were picked clean, using a plastic fork and knife and they were very lean and tasted great. The house BBQ sauce is excellent too. This my favorite BBQ place in OKC.

Outstanding! From the warm friendly environment to the generous portions George's Happy Hog does BBQ right. Forget the chain restaurants, this is the place to be for BBQ.
Excellent food! Portions were very generous. Staff were friendly. Highly recommend to fellow BBQ lovers.
Great food with new management. I went back to George ́s with my best friend and it was excellent. I had not been in awhile because the food went down hill after George passed away in 2009. The new owners are bringing the great BBQ standard that George had before he passed!! Probably now can be reconsidered my fav BBQ restaurant in the OKC area!! Ribs were huge and tasty!! The spicy BBQ is some spicy goodness and is spicy for even someone like me who likes spicy things!
Went here a year or more ago and was awful. Friend Told me under new owners. Great BBQ and sides are very good. Also had the sweet potato pie and cherry cobbler. Very tasty. Home made.
Very Tasty BBQ. Ate there for lunch today and had the Big Brisket Sandwich. The brisket was one of the best I have ever had! It had a nice smoked flavor. The cole slaw was crunchy and creamy and I really enjoyed that too. The place smells so good when you enter and it is very clean and bright. A lunch buddy had the smoked turkey sandwich and remarked on how good it was. Can't wait to return to try the other menu items!
New Management Gets It Right. OMG...I'm so happy that this place is under new management. The BBQ has improved immensely. My office had lunch ordered from them and everything was wonderful. We had brisket and smoked sausage and both were tender, juicy and full of flavor. Being from Texas, the sign of a good BBQ place is the brisket and their's was the best I've encountered in Oklahoma. It had a subtle smoke flavor to it with a nice pink ring on the outside. The portions are good in size and the sides we had were good as well. I would recommend the baked beans and the mac & cheese. If you've tried this place before but not since the new management took over, please give this place another try. I know I'll be back.
Pleasantly surprised. The rib ends were a little dry, but otherwise good. I liked the spicy bbq sauce here better than Earl's. The girlfriend ordered the sliced beef brisket and it was good. The potato salad was traditional style and the creamy mac and cheese was my favorite side. She ordered coleslaw, which I thought was decent. Overall, a good place for BBQ. We went for dinner and the person taking our order told us that their lunch specials are available all day, just FYI. Also, we found the staff to be very friendly, as other reviewers have noted here.
Most underrated. I'm a big guy who likes to eat. I would put George's barbecue up against anything. I like the Pecan smoke. Nothing fancy. I get the Rib End dinner, and it's incredible. I tend to take a pound of bologna home for later.
Always get the greens.
Really liked the atmosphere. I had the lunch ribs which comes with three very meaty ribs. I thought it was a good portion size. BBQ sauce was good. My fav was the mac n cheese though. Talk about yummy comfort food.
For a small, hole in the wall place with pig decorations over the walls and paper towels on the tables, I was pleasantly surprised. The big brisket lunch, though extremely greasy, was very tasty and complimented by deceptively good green beans. The staff was also good and seemed to know several of it's customers on a first name basis.
Great meat, great sauce, great BBQ. Sadly, George himself has passed but his good name and great BBQ live on. Generous portions of quality smoked meat falling off the bone, with the best sauce in OKC. Sides and desserts are good home cookin...
George is a student of BBQ. He pays attention down to the texture. He thinks falling off the bone ribs are cooked too long. He's a believer in using rubs. I agree with him on both of these points. And he serves a couple of green vegetables. One of the two best in OKC with Leo's being the other.
Wonderful! Wonderful BBQ!!! One of my favorites in the OKC area. The ribs are always tender and BIG! George knows BBQ!!!

Overall I enjoyed George's Happy Hog, now that I finally found it. It is just your typical Okie Q-Raunt. I wouldn't stand in line for it and I wouldn't drive 5 hours for it but it was good enough I'll be going back.
This is one of my regular places for some of the best Q in OKC. Be sure to get there before noon as there will be a constant line nearly out the front door. Pay attention whilst you are in line because you order at the counter. The young lady behind the register is as sweet as the tea, but those folks making orders ain’t got time for you to think about it too long, they got awesome BBQ to put out the door. George’s Happy Hog reminds me of the Cozy Corner in Memphis. I’ve tried several of the sides here, so trust me when I tell ya, just order the beans, you won’t be disappointed. The mild sauce is the way to go, the hot is VERY HOT! As far as the meats go, my favorite are the rib ends, brisket, and ribs of course. The smoke sausage is good, and the smoked bologna rivals Central BBQ in Memphis. The place smells like a smokehouse because it is! Go to George’s, have some BBQ, and watch out for politicians, the capitol is right around the corner! And they know how good this place is.
THAT SMOKED MEAT IS DELICIOUS! Customer service and atmosphere decent! I went back two days in a row for that brisket, burnt ends and greens.
We from Philadelphia Pennsylvania stopped at Oklahoma I love bbq food google told us this place was good. It did not disappoint The food here is amazing I highly recommend wish I can give them more stars. The people here are nice and friendly food is delicious 😋 if you’re in Oklahoma you have to stop here.
I was in the area for work and passed this place. Never heard of it. I googled it and seen the many excellent pictures of food and reviews of this place. Wow this place did not disappoint! I even had to drive 1 hour home and the food was still amazing! Great job to the staff here! The best I have had in Oklahoma! Also the wife and kiddo loved it as well!
We are from out of town, Google told us that this was the best place for Bar-B-Q. I must say they did not disappoint. It has been the best Bar-B-Q I have tasted in a long time.
This stop was part of our family reunion-- minutes away from the Oklahoma History Center and State Capitol. . A proud Black-Owned Business with great BBQ! The brisket is plentiful and tasty with their mild "secret sauce". The foot traffic was busy with locals and out-of-towners like me. Service was prompt and accommodating to how you like your BBQ! Come on down and get this gem in Oklahoma City-- prices are much cheaper than what I've found in Alabama.
I just left this place, and it was delicious! I got the chopped brisket sandwich with Mac &greens. Just delicious! The food is FRESH! I typically don't like greens but theirs are immaculate! The customer service was so welcoming. And the pound cake! 🤤🤤🤤 I can't wait to go back!
First time visiting this establishment. Good customer service, was not rushed to order and they have plenty of menu options. I had four ribs, corn on the cob, potato salad , BBQ beans, a slice of lemon and 7-Up cake (could not decide on which dessert I wanted more lol). The side portions are okay, but if you are hungry, it may not truly satisfy your taste buds. The meat and cake portions did not disappoint. I did want a slice of their chocolate pound cake, but they were sold out of it. The prices are reasonable and fair. This place has the neighborhood "mom and pop" restaurant feel to it and I do recommend you visit. The jazz music playing helps to set the mood and makes you feel like you are at a family cookout. There was a constant flow of customers coming and going, so I knew this place had the good BBQ. In case you are wondering, both slices of cake were mouth watering and delicious. Check the hours if you are planning to visit for dinner, as I believe they are not open past 5 or 6 p.m.
Great BBQ! Had rib lunch and baked beans. Ribs were good sized, meaty and flavorful. Had brisket a few days ago and it was also very good. If there's a line, it moves SLOW.
Absolutely the best BBQ in this area!! We had the rib family dinner with beans and coleslaw for Thanksgiving. They did fail to put cornbread in the sack which was very disappointing. I added cornbread dressing and homemade cranberry pineapple sauce. Wonderful!!
Nice spot, great prices, big portions, tasty food, friendly staff. Highly recommend
LITERALLY THE BEST RIB ENDS EVER!!!! I love this place… Everything is good from the moment you walk in from hospitality to the smell… Black owned business and family oriented which makes it even better… I get the rib ends and hot link… BEST I’VE EVER HAD and I’m from Chicago… The hot link is actually hot too because I know I hate ordering “mild links” lol… I come here at least once a week… YOU HAVE TO COME IF YOI HAVEN’T BEEN… THANK ME LATER!!!
Good old soul food and barbecue in a hidden spot near the capital When it comes to classic old school barbecue.. this is your place. They also serve great pies and rib ends and baked beans are my favorite. They're not trying to kill you in price.
Decided to try this place when I was looking for a quick lunch, and I'm glad I did! The staff was very friendly and polite, and the food is delicious with great portions for the price. I especially liked their homemade hot sauce- very unique and tasty! Will definitely be returning.
Wow! So good. Lunch special was enough for 2 cost $9.00. Couldn't even eat it all.
Get the Rib sandwich!!! The place is what you would expect from a really good hidden gem bbq joint. Great little spot for some old school bbq. Nothing too fancy just great food and friendly service. I will definitely be back.
