Girlfriend and I got back into town and decided to hit up Hiro all day happy hour. I got multiple Kirins and she got a mojito. No disrespect to Blue cause I love it but Hiro has a classier atmosphere and menu items are more quality. Sushi freshness I feel is the best in town. I like the lightest of Crab Rangoon unlike some places in town. My girlfriend got the Imperial Chicken which is a great entree. All the main dishes (not sushi) are phenomenal. I usually get sushi but I always try a bite off others who order it at the table. Overall, Hiro is a place that should be on your monthly places to go if you live in Omaha. I usually go to the downtown location since it's closer my residents but I was coming into town so i was driving by the NW location.
Went here with a large group of family. Our waitress was AWESOME and really did everything to make us feel comfortable and taken care of. She checked on us several times and dealt with all of our requests and questions with a smile. There was a good variety of rolls at average prices. In general, the sushi tasted fresh; the cooked dishes some in our party ordered were tasty as well. All in all, a nice upscale place for sushi.
Amazing sushi, although pretty dang expensive, but very good nonetheless.
Sat at the bar and was given amazing service and they made exactly what I wanted from my sushi, although I wish the portions could have been a little more for what you're paying.
I would say probably the best sushi in Omaha that I've tried so far in my opinion.
Friday Night. We got in and were greeted immediately. Our server Joe was very helpful and knowledgeable when it came to the menu. The only problem I had was when my boyfriend's food was ready they left it out on an open surface for at least 10 mins while my food was being made I guess. His tempura was cold by the time it got to the table and was unappetizing by that point.
The BEST sushi in Omaha. Lemme say that again... THE BEST SUSHI IN OMAHA!! Avocado egg rolls are to die for. Their traditional sushi is wonderful and their specialty rolls are absolutely delicious. Try the Husker roll. Never met anyone that didn't like it, even non-sushi eaters. Great customer service. Don't waste your money at Blue or any other place in Omaha. Hiro is the only choice.

Went here last night to celebrate my birthday. Great sushi, as always. We shared 9 rolls, including the Hiro special and all were amazing! Our waiter even brought complimentary birthday cake to finish out our meal! They really know how to make a great impression.
Great everytime!. I come here a lot to enjoy the food. One thing I know, I've never ordered anything I didn't like from the Japanese menu. And they have unique items like Chilean Sea bass with Strawberry Salsa and classic items like Asian Shortribs, that amaze me and taste great everytime I eat here!
Also the service is great most of the time. I have a couple of time where the server didn't have a good sense of environmental awareness and would pass me several times while I'm looking at the trying to get their attention, but as much as I eat here, 90% of the time my service is excellent.I been served by most of the servers there and they always provide an enjoyable experience. Haley especially makes sure her customers re happy by meeting their needs and expectations without them having to ask. For example I ordered the Agedashi tofu. Sometimes I've gotten it with too much sauce and the tofu is soggy. I didn't even have to ask, nor was she aware of my feelings on this and she brought the sauce on the side. this is true customer service--anticipating needs.
I especially love the Japanese entrees Chilean Sea bass with strawberry salsa and Salmon Plank with raspberry sauce and fuji apple salad. They are unique, creative, light, refreshing and delicious!
If you are looking for a truly authentic and unique asian cuisine experience in Omaha with great service, I recommend Hiro 88 - West Maple!
Excellent!. My wife and I are partial to Baby Blue, due to proximity and happy hour prices. We traveled to Hiro because it is one of the few sushi restaurants we have not occupied in Omaha. Most of our experiences are average, but Hiro was delightfully excellent!
My wife ordered the 'box' meal with sushi, tempura, chicken terryaki, and salmon. The meats were dry, but I think this is almost expected and average. She loved the sushi and tempura.
I order the Braised Shrimp. This was amazing! 7 shrimp, lightly fried, with a sweet asian sauce. I ate all 7 shrimp. I'm estimating these shrimp to be about a total of 3/4 pounds...it was worth every bite.
Although with this review I cannot give an honest review of the sushi, I can say, the food as a whole is excellent.
Our bartender recommended a good option for sake and beer, over our original choices. In addition, he refilled our drink glasses and provided excellent service. Before we even sat at the bar, our hostess offered us a 30 minute wait or open bar. Instead of letting us "fend for ourselves," she accompanied us to the bar and sought out open chairs for us. This never happens at any other restaurants. I loved it! The MOD also made his rounds to make sure we were happy. Excellent management.

Best sushi/asian restaurant in Omaha
Best sushi in town! Went to happy hour last night with some friends, sushi was spot on. Absolutely love the party in the bowl dressing! Can you guys bottle that bc people would flock to buy it up. Atmosphere always nice at hiro west or dtown. Both spots are fantastic. Some organic tasty greens instead of what they use in salads now would be my only gripe. Otherwise would recommend Hiro to any and all.
Best Sushi in Omaha!. I have been to just about all the sushi restaurants in Omaha (Blue, Wasabi Sushi, Sakura Bana, Okinawa, etc) and Hiro's West Maple takes the trophy. Blue and Hiro both have good late night reverse happy hour, but Hiro's service outperformed Blue and Baby Blue during these heavy volume times. Their sushi is excellent and the restaurant looks brand new every time I walk through the front door.
Very good. I was a sushi virgin before I went to Hiro. I've been to many other places and for the price of the rolls and the quality of the fish, it's probably the best in town. The servers are always wonderful and seem to enjoy serving you. They know the menu (or have at least sampled a couple dishes) and can recommend to you their favorites. All of the cooked rolls are very good, and I must give kudos about the cornhusker roll because it is not greasy in the slightest. The atmosphere is great for day or evening and can offer a fine dining experience, or a place to go in jeans to sit and share a good time.
Wasabi Stinger. It's the best thing on the menu, I LOVE it!!!
Happy Hour. We love their happy hour on Friday and Saturday nights. Not only do they have mixed drinks half off, but several sushi rolls as well. The bf and I like to get a group of friends together and take advantage of the half price drinks and rolls. I would suggest getting there by 10p.m., especially with a large group, because if you go any later you may have to wait a minute to be seated.
Love. So much better than Blue. Love this place SO much more than Blue! Firstly, it is family owned. The esthetics are lovely...very authentic. The food has never been anything but delicious and they are always knowledgeable and accommodating . I love the location downtown even more...the decor is to die for! This play has none of the generic coldness and lack of quality that Blue so often has. AND they do reverse happy hour. Such a deal.
God Love Hiro West. Best experience yet- wonderful server who was on-the-ball. Great food....both Sushi and Chinese grill were perfect. After a bad few experiences this week at other places, it was so nice to relax and enjoy great food, great service in a visually appealing spot. Well done, just great!
Great place!. First of all, welcome to Nebraska. I don't know if some of you have noticed, but the closest we come to the ocean is the Missouri River. I'm not sure where people think their sushi comes from. Also, why the 3rd degree of the sushi chef? Do you go to a steak house and demand that the chef knows the name, rank and serial number of your steak? Who cares what takaaldkflkad (or whatever it is) (see other comments) is? I don't know what it is and don't care. I know, I'm an uneducated NE hick. Quit being a sushi snob.
Ok, with that said, my husband & I love this place. It's close to home and more often than I'd like to admit, we pick up food when neither of us want to cook. Only one time was one of our rolls left out. We called & they apologized. We keep forgetting to get a replacement roll, but the key was we recognize people make mistakes & treat others as human beings, not servants. And for the record, there can never be too much cream cheese, I'm just saying...Keep up the good work. P.S. try the happy hour or reverse happy hour. Great prices.
Awesome Spot. I LOVE this place!!
I've been going to their late night sushi meals for 3 years now and they never disappoint. The staff is always really sweet and the kitchen is working their butts off.
I am usually am pretty anti-new trendy rolls, but theirs are almost always awesome. The Wasabi Stinger is a sin-baby wrapped in gluttony sauce and I wouldn't have it any other way. There isn't any better sushi spot in Omaha for atmosphere, food or even drinks. They even do a darn good job on their Chinese Dishes too.
My only complaint is the wait. And that's only because they are soo awesome!. Oh, and their army of mostly male servers? TOO CUTE *wink*
One of the best restaurants in the Omaha area. Great food, service!
LOVE HIRO!. Hiro is my go-to restaurant any day! The food is consistently delicious and a good value and the staff and owners are always attentive. The variety is fantastic - no need to shy away if anyone is not a sushi fan....there is delectable cooked fish, chicken options, lots of chinese choices and vegetarian options as well.
Love Hiro sushi. My favorite sushi place! Always consistant with there food, but have to agree the service can be hit or miss sometimes. I have always had great service for dinner except for one time when they dropped sauce on the back of my dad. I think something should have been done other than a apology. Last time I was there for lunch, the service was OK. My husband ordered a cup of $3 coffee since the waitress was going on about how good it was. It ended up being cold so, she microwaved it and forgot to give it back! Those were my only 2 issues, love the sushi and that's what I go for. I love the unagi maki and philly roll. Always fresh!
Great food and good times.. I went here with some friends one Friday night. The place was very busy but well worth the wait. The crowd was trendy and chic, but we did not feel out of place at all in jeans and tee shirts. I thought the sushi, presentation, and service were all very good. The price was average for sushi. Oh when I say sushi I mean all variations. Not a sushi snob and not going to bore you with specifics. Just shooting straight. Good food and good times.
Favorite place for sushi!. We went to Hiro on Friday night. We made reservations for 8:30, which was a good idea, because even that late the place was packed.
Service was excellent! She answered any and all questions expertly, checked on us often, and food was delivered to our table all in good timing.
Our table started off with the spicy garlic edamame and we all split a squid salad. The edamame came in a yummy spicy/sweet chili sauce that had great flavor. I ended up liking it better than just the plain edamame. The squid salad was a-maz-ing. It wasn't chewy at all, very tender, and had such a great taste to it (it was served in a Japanese vinegar dressing). Next time I'll order one just for myself.
We ordered enough of the below mentioned sushi that we all got a choice of soup or salad. I love their house salad. It comes with either ginger or sesame dressing; I got a mix of both of them, and it was great. For dinner we did a mix of 3 different rolls and 4 types of sashimi. My favorite roll was the Spicy Crunchy Salmon; it tasted fresh, had great flavor, and the right amount of spice and crunch. I also really enjoyed the veggie roll we got. It was made with simple veggies, but still good. For sashimi, the tuna and salmon were fresh and yummy. I didn't care for the octopus so much though, (though that's a personal thing; I've never liked it...so chewy, it takes forever to eat) and the white fish was fine, but so mild in flavor that it seemed lacking.
I didn't this time, but when we go to Hiro I typically order a Chinese dish. They've always been super good. One of my favorites is the Kung Pao Chicken.
For the quality of food they serve here (and it always tastes high quality) prices are right on. Hiro will always be my number one pick when I'm in the mood for this type of food.
Solid sushi. I have been eating here for several years. I like it better than Blue and Sakura Bana in terms of atmosphere and sushi. The bento boxes are reliably good. The sushibis the best in town. The sushi happy hour rocks.
Great sushi and service. This is the best sushi I have had in Omaha.
What's with 'the diner'?. Hey ... this is Omaha ... not L.A. or Tokyo. You're ditzing a place just because they didn't have one type of spice there?? Give me a break. I went out for sushi in L.A. for twenty years and Hiro's is the only Japanese restaurant in Omaha that comes close. I've been going there almost since they opened (right after I moved back from SoCal). Their sushi is excellent. And even if you don't do sushi, their Japanese and Chinese dinners are fantastic. When I go for sushi, I always sit near the wok station which is behind glass right next to the sushi bar. The smells are fantastic! And I've always had great service, even on busy Friday nights. Hiro's is my #1 Japanese restaurant followed by Sakura Bana and Mt Fuji.
Best Las Vegas roll in town! Everything here is delicious. The wait staff is always great too.
Good overall sushi. I would prefer 8 slices per roll instead of 6, a few rolls where not tightly wrapped causing a problem with the bigger slices. Also seemed like more of a Japanese restaurant with sushi than a Sushi restaurant with other menu items.
I like their Japanese food & sushi. However, my bf does not like their sushi. He is used to most rolls being cold & all the rolls we ordered at Hiro were hot. The pieces were cut so large you couldn't fit in your mouth & they weren't packed so just fell apart. Will be back, but won't be ordering the sushi.
If you are on a budget happy hour sushi on Fridays and Saturdays is great. Get the dumplings.
Best Sushi and Service in Omaha. My wife and I love HIro's. They have the best sushi, but the entrees rock as well. The braised shrimp is my favorite, but it is expensive. The servers are friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is contemporary and fun.
For you midtowners.... it is worth the trip out west. Even if you have to travel past 72nd street. JK
Just moved here from San Diego and looking for good sushi. A friend old us about Hiro. It was excellent! Would have never guessed I was eating sushi in the Midwest. Fresh, a great variety of rolls, excellent service! I will definitely go back.
With the exception of being turned away 15 min before happy hour ended, we've always had great service here. The Husker roll is our favorite twist on sushi. Multiple double dates here and love it.
By far one of the best sushi places ever!!!! A must go if you love sushi
Like the atmosphere & service. I have been to Hiro as many times as i've been to Blue, and I must say that if i really had to chose between the two sushi restaurants for great food, great service, and all around great experience i would go to Hiro.
So far, so good. I've been to HIro several times and always sit at the sushi bar for nigri. Service is good and very quiet and the fish is fresh and with nice variety every time. I don't like that it's served room temperature--wish it were cooler. Also, the pieces are HUGE. I can't put that entire thing in my mouth without looking like an animal. Decent sake and beer list-my server's advice has were good both times that I asked for help. Overall, I'm not blown away, but I haven't been disappointed either. It's a good bet.
Peanut butter chicken with white rice and a salad with their carrott salad dressing is without a doubt the best meal I have ever had in my life.
Has the best sushi I've had in Omaha. It is pretty fresh for the middle of the country. Like everywhere else in Omaha, the prices for the sushi are a little high. I paid about $12 for four pieces of Maguro Nigiri. The prices for the entrees are pretty reasonable though. The Chicken Teriyaki is pretty good. The sauce is sweeter than most, but I liked it.
My favorite!. Best peanut butter chicken in the civilized world. Rolls are fantastic, and their "special rolls" are even better.
Sit at the sushi bar for a great experience.
Always good. I've never personally had a bad experiance at hiro. The service is great even on the happy hour nights when they have a full house plus like 50 waiting for a table. The food is really great (only been to like 4 other sushi places) and I love the atmosphere.
I love Hiro. On my birthday they treated me well. Sushi is top notch for Omaha.
My Favorite for Sushi. Hiro has always been on the top of my list for Sushi. Very comfortable atmosphere unlike blue and baby blue which feel much more like being in a bar than a restaurant. My seconf favorite is Sushi Japan.
The Best. I love sushi and have tried every restaurant in town that serves it. Hiro, in my opinion, is the best of the bunch. Surprisingly, my second favorite is Prestige. The sushi is probably just as good but with a limited menu comes in second to Hiro.
Happy Hour. They have happy hour on Friday and Saturday from 10pm.
Happy hour menu is pretty good and lots of choices.
Try Wasabi Stinger( secret menu). It's little expensive to me but my friends love it! FYI Hakkaisan(sake) is super good.
My wife and I came here and had an amazing dining experience. We sat quickly, and Taylor offered outstanding service. We ended up eating 6 rolls in total with some miso soup and edamame. This place has a great atmosphere, plentiful wine selections, and the sushi was to die for. Would highly recommend and will definitely be dining again.
This is my favorite place. The drinks are the BEST here, the food is amazing, the people are so nice and friendly and good at their jobs. The prices can be considered high for some but if you come during happy hour most of the menu is half the original price. I don’t leave 5 star reviews very often but this place definitely deserves it. I come here at least once a week and everyone I’ve brought with me has become a regular customer too. I would recommend this place to everyone, especially if you love good drinks and sushi.
The sushi is always great. The lunch bento box is a great deal!! Severs are very friendly. They also have 1/2 price sushi on Sundays!! Highly recommend for great food !!! The pics are halfway through the meal.
Went during happy hour and had a delicious meal. I appreciate restaurants that have vegan options and great service
Love this place food was excellent service was excellent as well 10/10
I prefer lunch time as the wait fit a table is short to no wait and the sushi great! Helpful staff w good saki recommendations. The west location is superior to the one more downtown.
Good old fashioned!
Loved this place. Everything about it feels fantastic. We were there for a colleague's birthday lunch and the food was so delicious. I ordered the Yaki Soba stir fried noodles and customized the spice level to my liking and it is exactly like I ordered. Service is top notch. Ambience is excellent. A bit pricey but well worth though. The portions could be a bit more.
I will go back and try more options.
Very impressed with this location. Staff were very professional. The atmosphere here is one of the best in my opinion compared to other Japanese dinning establishments. Very clean bar and tables. Food was amazing. Best philly roll I have ever tried. Smoked salmon is beyond delicious. Will deffintly be hitting this lactation up next time we visit Omaha.
I had a party of 12 made a reservation but was seated immediately. Service was good and both appetizers and entrees were brought out quick! Had a great experience!
I had their happy hour menu items like scallion pancakes, egg rolls and Las Vegas sushi. All of them are very good. I’m now fan of their scallion pancakes. They are a must try. Their sauce is very unique. Ambience is good and their staff is friendly too.
Absolute favorite sushi restaurant in Omaha! My husband and I enjoy the Reverse Happy Hour times so we spend less than $40 on 5 sushi rolls and miso soup. Someone is always refilling water glasses. Someone is always around to pick up finished plates. Excellent customer service. We continue to return again and again!
I loved the food! I got the garlic edamame which was amazing, miso soup was delish. I also got the California Roll with Eel and it was amaze as well! I also got the bento box with Chicken and Salmon teriyaki, I could only fit the salmon in my belly. I will be going back for sure for the sushi!
My mom and godmother got similar bento boxes and they got the beef teriyaki which tasted a little like burnt charcoal however management took good care of us and did not charge for the uneaten food. 👍🏽
Absolutely love this place! I go here every week and it's always a treat. They have good options for sushi lovers and non-sushi lovers alike!
This has become our favorite restaurant for sushi in Omaha, food is delicious, price is reasonable, and service is excellent, happy hour and reverse happy hour menu are fantastic.
We have come here several times already and has become pretty much a mandatory stop for us on weekends, we haven't tried anything else besides makis and appetizers but so far everything has been delicious.
Quite recommended if you are around and want to eat a great maki roll.
P.D. Gyoza and crab rangoon are amazing as well.
My wife and I love this place. We love Blue as well but if we want to have a nice quiet dinner at a place where we can actually talk and enjoy the atmosphere—this is the place. I saw a couple other reviews in here complaining about the service but we've never had a bad experience with the staff. Of course, the sushi always takes longer than we would like but to the chefs this is art and it always tastes and looks great so well worth any wait.
Updated. Place has never disappointed us. Went there last night with the kids. Great time, great service and great food. We were pigs last night. They brought a boat for three of us. 😂
Great place for traditional sushi in Omaha. Atmosphere is great and service is very fast. Our server was so nice to me, I came in just before happy hour ended and she made sure I could at least order appetizers before it was over. Love this place!
It has been a while since I ate at Hiro 88. Today I went back again after a friend’s invite. I was surprised to find a remodeled restaurant! It looked very modern and clean. I absolutely love it! Our server was very courteous. Both my meal and my friend’s looked delicious and tasted yummy. I will definitely come back again for more.
Update:
I change my five stars to four because I was disappointed with the food I had today. We ordered two bento boxes. One of the box had teriyaki beef. The beef was way over cooked. They tasted bitter. Then they gave us a new one. This time was way under cooked.
