This place rocks. I wanted something different. They are new to the neighborhood and I can smell the goodness sometimes in my backyard. All the 5reviews were on point but what we received was beyond our expectations by far!! It was so clean, friendly staff ( the chef came to our table to say hello and welcome us), the food... oh my. The portions were huge, everything was fresh, hot, and perfectly cooked and seasoned. And then came the key lime pie.
My husband had 1/2 jerk chicken, black beans & rice, and collard greens! Didn't even need salt or pepper. I had the daily dinner special, salad and then large jerk shrimp and grits. And of course, we squeezed every bit of the pie in. I thought I'd have to be rolled out of there before the food coma kicked in. Lol.
Listen, if you are anywhere near Island Thyme, please go in and eat. Make sure to mention the Marriott's have given them a great big stamp of approval. We'll be back for sure.
I have eaten here several times over the past few months and the food here has been consistently good every time. My favorite is the tropical chicken, mac & cheese and roasted corn. My daughter’s favorites are the tropical chicken and plantains. The restaurant is always spotlessly clean and the staff is very courteous and knowledgeable on their menu. If you’re thinking about coming here don’t hesitate. You won’t be disappointed!

Welcome to the neighborhood!!
First time there and the food was absolutely delicious! The chicken was perfectly seasoned & juicy, plantains were fresh, mac & cheese, rice & black beans & fries were all on point . And can't forget about the genuinely nice staff. We will most certainly be coming back!
The best food I have experienced in this area. Reasonably priced, great portion sizes, food comes out quickly and the staff is very nice.
The chef is very friendly and skilled. Will defenetly frequent this location.
The food was FABULOUS! We ordered the empanadas and the jerk chicken meal. It was more than enough food. The chicken and the empanadas were seasoned well and the mac and cheese was delicious. The chef/owner came out and introduced himself. They also have TacoTuesday's (BOGO 50% off) and happy hour specials M-F (smaller portion items ranging from $1.50-5.00). Great local food! Come out and support a local business. You won't be disappointed.
Just picked up food.. I have not even tried it and I know is good.. plus the portion of half chicken is HUGE!! All sides are amazing.. corn, yuca fríes, rice and beans.. Amazing food close to home. Thanks to the chef.
Really good food Virgin Island style. Portions are huge.
René had the Jerk Chicken with rice and beans and riped plantains, and I had Tropical Grilled chicken with yuca fries and mac and cheese. Both delicious.
The chef Verne (sorry if that is not how he writes it) came out and introduced himself and asked how was the food. Nice gesture.
Food was great, huge plate for around 13 bucks. Owner/head chef came out and talked with me for a bit, everyone there was super nice. Fantastic place!
The island beef taco. Delicious and messy. Filled with ground beef, lettuce, tomatoes, plantains, black beans, rice and sour cream. Perfect balance of flavors. Don't let the no frills decor fool you.
My husband and I visited Island Thyme today for the first time! Let me tell you I'm impressed. Got the grilled chicken with Caesar Salad and sweet/fried plantains and it was so good! The chicken was so well seasoned and tender! My husband ordered the coconut shrimp with yuca fries and corn, it was also excellent. We enjoyed the music. Overall, food was excellent and great service. We will definitely recommend this place!!
We came here for the first time today and tried the jerk chicken and OMGoodness! It was Delicious. Amazing! If you are in the area... you must come in and try it... you won’t regret it!

this place is amazing! Definitely is one of my favorite new spots! you have got to try their mac and cheese!!! Their sofrito chicken is amazing too!
This place is amazing!!! We made the 1 hour 10 minute drive there after seeing a viral video featuring their oxtail fries. They did not disappoint. The fries were delicious as well as the jerk shrimp and grits, fried shrimp and collard greens. The portions are very generous and the prices are reasonable. The restaurant was clean and service was great. To top off our visit, we were greeted by the chef/owner and personally gave our compliments. Well worth the drive. I totally recommend them and will definitely come back.
Drove 30mins from Downtown Orlando to this restaurant located in Avalon Park just to try the food and wasn't disappointed. This establishment is extremely clean and tidy which is a big plus for me. We went during the week, around noon and there was no line/wait at all which was surprising because the line should be out the door. We ordered Braised oxtail with rice & peas, and mac & cheese (not pictured). The young lady at the register was very polite and gave many recommendations on things to try since it was our first time. It didn't take long for the meals to come out and everything was hot! The oxtail taste was different compared to Jamaican style oxtail which is popular and more common...BUT IT WAS GREAT! The meat was very tender, falling off the bone, and the portion size was huge. Rice & peas were delicious also, not to dry but not soupy either. My only con would be the mac & cheese, which wasn't creamy at all and pretty dry maybe due to the big rigatoni pasta noodles used. I would not recommend it as a side (especially for $2.95 up-charge) but wouldn't mind giving the mac & cheese bowl a try next time. Lastly we ordered a side of jerk chicken just to try and it was amazing I mean hats off to the chef. Can't wait to return to try some different items on their extensive menu.

The owner/chef did come out to introduce himself and asks how everything was tasting which I thought was very commendable. If in Orlando or plan to visit soon, please check this place out and bring your appetite!
I was absolutely blown away by this place! I’m not usually on that side of town, but my husband and I happened to be in the area and decided to check this place out. We came pretty early, so we were the only ones there. The girl taking our order was very welcoming and answered all of our questions. After ordering, our food came out in a timely manner. Everything was absolutely amazing and you could definitely tell the chef takes pride in his food. We had the jerk chicken and it was very flavorful and juicy. Enough spice to add flavor, but not to the point where it was overbearing. The sides we got with it were the collard greens and the rice and peas. The collards were nice and garlicky and the rice and peas were flavorful, but better with a bit of oxtail gravy on it. We also got the coconut shrimp meal. They had the best taste and came with a honey mustard sauce. My husband said they were the best he’s had. With those we got yuca fries and Mac n cheese. Both of those sides were great! The yuca fries were amazing, light and crispy, and came with an awesome garlic sauce. I enjoyed the larger pasta of the mac n cheese. The best part of all, was when Chef Thomas came out to check on how the meals were. Whaaaat?!! Who does that any more?… this guy, because he cares! I definitely let him hear my praises. Even though it is a bit of a drive, we will definitely be back to support this business!!
My boyfriend had gone before and always spoke so highly of the food so I had to try it for myself. I was completely blown away by how good it was!! The owner came out to check on us, the restaraunt was clean, and staff was friendly. It was sooo flavorful and well cooked. Best shrimp and grits, Mac and cheese and oxtail I’ve ever had. I’ll definitely be back again and again :)
My buddy drove over an hour to meet me. We wanted oxtail and it was worth the drive, the price, everything. I had Tostones on the side and had unlimited Pina colada and mango freeze drink as well.
We just ate here and had an awesome meal. My husband had the oxtail entree and he loved it! I’m not a fan of oxtail but I tried it and it was the best oxtail I ever had. The shrimp tacos, Mac and Cheese and Jerk wings were excellent. I would highly recommend. The owner came out and asked us how the meal was. Such good customer service. Loved it!
This food was good!!!! I had 50 million questions bout the menu and the female helping was so nice and answered all my questions, great customer service!
This restaurant has captured my heart ❤️ and my stomach. Chef Vern is awesome, and his staff reflects his perfection (Nadia 🥰) is so professional and knowledgeable. Even if Chef Vern is not in the restaurant at your arrival, the meals are coming out with his high standards of excellence 😉 👌. The menu prices are very affordable. I would suggest the first visit to sit in to get the full presentation of the restaurant. And take a meal home for the next day. It's definitely worth the drive to get there. Each time, I order something different, and everything is great 👍 👌 😌 ☺️
Every time we order from Island Thyme, it's like a trip to flavortown. Tonight we had the jerk chicken (with sweet corn and mac n cheese), jerk pork taco, island beef taco, and the oxtail taco. It is always so tasty. You can tell this food is prepared with love. We will keep going back everything is so darn tasty. Pictures don't do this justice. Trust me, you need the oxtail taco in your life!
Great food and pretty big portions. I'm not all that familiar will Caribbean food but there were plenty of unique dishes available. I had the coconut shrimp, which was very good. My friends all ordered different types of chicken which they all liked. My only complaint is a fountain soft drink is $3. A bit pricey.
I love this place. My boyfriend and I have been here 3 times and each experience was AMAZING! Staff very informative and gives great recommendations. Love the food. My boyfriend is from the Virgin Islands and he says it reminds him of home. We definitely be a regular, it is definitely worth driving to if you live further.
I have been waiting to try several different places before making the following statement but I can safely say that this is the best restaurant in the area, no doubt about it. I have not tasted better food at any other place near Avalon Park. Coming from a country near the Caribbean myself I can attest that this tastes just like home. Chef is really nice, he even came to my table to check on me and asked me about the food. He has several awards and recognitions on the walls and I can see why. Don’t be fooled if this place might not look like the fanciest restaurant you have ever been to, the food does all the talking, place has a nice atmosphere too. The front lady is very kind as well. I will be coming back as often as I can.
This is definitely more Carribean fusion than traditional Jamaican food. The jerk chicken was on point, but the other dishes we got were just ok. The jerk shrimp and grits was too salty. We were sad that there weren't any patties or coco bread. Prices are very reasonable, generous portions. Staff were friendly and there wasn't too long of a wait for food.
Wow! Everything we ordered was delicious- shrimp scampi, beef tacos, and empanadas. Everything is made from scratch and generous portions. The restaurant is clean and the staff very friendly.
Great food and amazing customer service. We had the jerk chicken and the jerk pork ribs and they were huge portions and seasoned so well! The jerk is obviously made more mild unless you request spice. Definitely will be back!!
We came in today and got two plates of the jerk chicken rice and beans one with plantains and corn and the other with corn with an eight piece jerk wing. I can honestly say when it comes to food I’m a bit hard to please but this place is great! The chicken is cooked to perfection like my granny and everything was cooked hot, and fresh with such good flavor. The girl at the register was getting on my last nerves but overall It was money well spent. Also I wanna make a recommendation please add a pineapple slushy they already have mango and another kind.
Some of the best carribbean food in Central Florida. The jerk shrimp and grits was to die for and the jerk chicken was out of this world. So much flavor in every bite. If I could rate this place 6 stars, I would.
This place was great. The food was incredibly amazing, best Caribbean food I’ve had ever in Orlando, and probably ever. The spices were on point, the prices were medium range but definitely worth good fresh food. Will recommend and return again. If you’re looking for the taste of st thomas, or just taste the islands, this is the place. 100% recommended.
Went for the Oxtail fries also got the chicken and rib combo w/mac and cheese. Everything was fall off the bone and flavorful we had to take more to go. I highly recommend for great Caribbean food that's not like the others. Also worth mentioning, the customer service was A1!
