Stumbled across this place driving the scenic route of Hwy 98 on the Gulf Coast. Homey and inviting, plenty of parking, obviously a hit with the locals and tourists alike. Huge portions and great prices. Daily menus of meat and three, and homemade desserts. If you like old style comfort soul food, this is your place!
Crowded at lunch time but it clears out quickly. They have a rotating menu so you have to pick from what they have for that day. Fried chicken was good, corn bread was dry. beautiful scenic view though not on the coast.
Nice place away from the beach, frequented by locals. Relaxed atmosphere typical of old Florida. Plenty of coffee and good food!
Great out of the way spot. I had the best chicken/country fried steak, gravy biscuit. You could tell this was a local spot, in all the right ways. Not too busy and just the right price. We will be going back. Just fyi... Breakfast and lunch only.
Love the location, staff was all very friendly and the views were nice. Got a little early so waited for lunch but was still in and out in about an hour. Had the country fried steak which was soft, mashed taters and baked Mac n cheese with peach cobbler for dessert. Didn't care much for the Mac n cheese but everything else was awesome. The tea is sweet and they give you a big glass. Definitely well worth the price and I'd definitely recommend giving them a try 💖 also side note, was way beyond full even without eating the Mac n cheese I didn't finish the cobbler so next time hubby and I agreed to share a plate and both of us are big folks so just a heads up lol
The food was really good but probably not the healthiest. It is unusual to Lima Beans and Steamed Cabbage on a menu, which I liked. All the meat options were breaded. Having a meat option for lunch that wasn't breaded would have been nice, but "healthy" isn't synonymous with southern style cooking either.
All of the staff were extremely warm and kind. If you want a true southern dining experience, this is definitely the place to visit. If you are looking to eat low carb, your options are very limited.
Hot dang… this place is good! Can’t find food around PCB this good… and this authentic to southern roots. From the sweet tea to the friend country steak and gravy to the peach cobbler it tasted like a Deep South kitchen. We ate there for lunch and breakfast (only got pics of breakfast).
Lunch menu is set for each day, i.e. only on certain days can you get shrimp or fish, then on another day you can get friend pork chop, friend country steak or fried chicken.
The Cajun 15 bean side dish was so amazing!
Seat yourself and enjoy the food!
Came on a Friday and ordered fried fish lunch plate - came with two sides so I had some cabbage and cheese grits.
The view was serene, the fellow lunchers kind, and the staff congenial and attentive...I will definitely come back here on my next visit when I want a taste of glorious Florida flavor!
Me and my wife was coming back from Mexico Beach and came back to the business district and got a little lost and stumbled across this gem
The food was southern style as advertised, portions were not big but plenty enough and the prices were good. They had great sweet tea, great service with a nice back porch setting if you choose to sit outside.
I would definitely love to go back
Cutest place ever! Food was tasty! Served alacarte. Great views of the bayou. Friendly service.
So my husband and I just got back home from eating at Big Mama's. And Glory to God. It was wonderful we will definitely be back.
( By the way guys, I'm sorry I didn't take pictures of the food but next time I go I definitely will) 🤣
God bless you. I love you
I'm leaving this review just so people know that Big Mama's is pet friendly with outdoor seating. My big headed baby loves it here.
Food is excellent, price is right! I’ve only had their breakfast and it was delicious. Their pancakes are massive and so good! It’s like a perfect little fishing town diner. Staff is excellent too. We sat on the back porch and watched the water while we had breakfast. They are open at 6:30 so it’s great for an early morning outdoor breakfast.
Really good home style cooking. Make sure you check out the daily lunch menu as that is only what they serve. I had chicken fried steak - not something I’d typically eat. It was very good AND rich. They have a great variety of food throughout the week - so check out the website.
All I can say is if you are not a local and want that feeling of small town welcome feeling and growling stomach, this is the place to go! Prove it's beyond reasonable, service is the best you can get, and the smiles and friendly conversations are here! Best grits I've had in years! Family ran, family friendly, and each customer is treated like the first of the day! Got to find out a little of the history of this place and it is amazing!
Wow! This is a great little local place. It’s dramatically more refined than your average country cooking place. Tuesdays and Fridays they serve fish and shrimp. The service is quick. The prices are great. The owner came out and greeted us (I took a selfie with her). The atmosphere is just so peaceful from the moment you drive on the property.
If you're in downtown Panama City, Florida and seeking good country cooking check this place out. Really good home cooked meals.
Tasty fried chicken and country fried steak are among the selections with a chef's choice dish every day. Large selection of vegetables and you can't go wrong with any of them.
Located on Beach Dr across from the large fuel tanks.
Love this place! We found this gem in St. Andrews bay right beside Panama City. Their biscuits and gravy are the best I’ve ever had and I’ve been on this planet for 40 years. My dad had the chicken fried steak and we’ve never tasted anything so tender and crunchy. The staff is awesome we were greeted 3 times by cheery servers and cashiers before taking our seats. We can’t wait to try their lunch menu next week!
