Its been a long time coming for Penn Yan but we are on the rise for "the place" to go for exceptional dining and the Main Deck is another "feather in our cap"! The attention to the interior design and dining amenities is top shelf! The food, service, atmosphere and pricing were all in line as to what one should expect from an establishment of this caliber! BRAVO!!
We have been there twice and we enjoyed it both times. The general manager Brad, manager Will and bartender Ryan were welcoming and friendly. The space is amazing they did a wonderful job. I would like to see at least a couple of California wines on the menu and I think the food menu can be "tweeked" slightly to add a few more simple items. Looking forward to our next visit.
Beautiful day to have the option of sitting outside. Nice selection of local wines and microbrews. Service was great, food was good. Wife had Fish sandwich - huge! And I had a Reuben.
Nice menu and very good food. Not gourmet but nice atmosphere with reasonable pricing. They do have a deck outside with view of the lake which is very nice!
We (group of 4) got there 15 minutes before afternoon kitchen closing but hostess greeted us warmly and seated us. Waitress was prompt and gave us time to peruse menu. Took our 4 different orders and in no time we had our food. All items were delicious and well prepared. The view was a big plus also. We will be back!
We ate here (group of 8) the night before my wedding as a family celebration. Reservations were required, as there was a sign when we arrived for reservations only that night, which was fine because we called ahead. We were seated on the side deck overlooking the lake, which was a beautiful view. The wait staff were attentive and came to offer us drinks promptly. The wine was good and the soup of the day, stuffed pepper soup, was delicious! Everyone but one person in our party ordered pasta dishes. The entrees did take a bit of time to come out, but we enjoyed the views and each other's company. All but one entree came out good! Four of us got the chicken broccoli alfredo, but my fiancé's came out very runny/soupy and the sauce just ran off the noodles. Otherwise, a good experience!
We were invited to a soft opening. This place is fabulous. The service was awesome so friendly and capable. The food was great and so tasty. The theme of Penn Yan Boats is so unique. This is a gem of the Fingerlakes. I will return again and again!
Beautiful views and great atmosphere at sunset. Nice selection of local wines by the glass. The salad was limp and sad, though. My conclusion: come here for drinks, not food!
Perfect spot to stay if you are going to a WVU 🏈 game. If not, avoid it on those weekends. Rooms were spacious with full fridges and comfortable beds. Showers did not have good water pressure.
Drove up from Dryden and stopped for lunch yesterday and like most places they were short staffed. We sat on the deck and the waitstaff was terrific. A slight wait is no big deal with a cold beer and a beautiful view. Food was very good and reasonably priced. Will stop back again
My wife and I dined at Top of the Lake for dinner on July 3. First thing first - the food was fabulous, it was so good - (we both had the Caribbean jerk haddock). I mean like, it was really good.
Next, the service was extremely slow for us that evening. What's really odd is they have a warning in the menu saying that the food prep is not quick; no other restaurant I've been to in my life has ever had a warning saying the food takes a long time.
Once we got seated on the patio, it took 15-20 min for a server to take our drink order. The food prep took a long time, close to 45 min to get the food. It wasn't like we ordered anything fancy - haddock, rice, and asparagus.
Our server was very nice however, which was a plus.
Service was 5 star... Prices were incredibly inexpensive... Million dollar view!!!... And lastly the food was excellent!
My honey and I were traveling through the area for business and stayed at the Hampton Inn next door to the Top of the Lake Restaurant. We had been to the restaurant years before, and were very happy with the experience, so we decided to try it again last week. We were so pleasantly surprised after reading some unfounded negative reviews. We were greeted immediately by Susan, the owner and felt like we were welcomed into her home. From the minute we walked into the restaurant, we felt comfortable and appreciated. Our service was impeccable throughout this quite enjoyable evening. Our appetizers, salads and dinners were fresh, timely and delicious with one of the nicer (and largest) perfectly cooked prime ribs I have eaten in a long time. The view of Keuka Lake was amazing and an added bonus to our dinner “extraordinaire.” We travel quite a bit and have eaten at many nice establishments, Top of the Lake has made our “favorites” list! We would highly recommend Top of the Lake and Thank Susan and Cecil very much. We will be returning hopefully soon! Linda and Mark, Skaneateles.
