Walked by this place the last time I was here. Glad I came back to have a grilled cheese classic. Did not disappoint.
Friendly smiling staff.
Had the Thunder valley, added bacon, roasted garlic and caramelized onions. By far the best sandwich I have had in Philly ever!
Loved this place! Anyway to get a grilled cheese sandwich shipped to California and still be good? ;)
Besides the obvious that their food is delicious, the thing that impressed me the most was the level of courteous service. Even though it's a crowded place and busy, which can cause stress for lots of people, it does not show in the employees. They are genuinely glad to help you.
I've seen your place every time I visit the market and finally took the plunge with some friends. Ordered the Brie grilled cheese and it was amazing! Delicious and the best Brie I've had :) will be coming back!
Oh yeah - amongst all the great food stall at the Reading Terminal Market rests this gem. Take everything you thought you knew about grilled cheese sandwiches and save it for those midnight munchies when when there's nothing left in the fridge.
This place rewrote all the rules.
Amazing selections using locally produced artisanal cheeses.
If you're a fan of stinky cheese, look no further than the 'Melter Skelter' - a Raclette-based bit of sandwich heaven.
My first time here... the best grilled cheese I have ever had. Great atmosphere also!
Best grilled cheese we every had. The service was fantastic as well
One of the tastiest sandwiches I've eaten. I posted a pic of it on FB and people asked me why it was green. I'm colorblind and saw no green! I hope it was some sort of pro-Eagles food trick; it was Super Sunday.
I ordered the Ave. D with truffle oil as an extra and it was EXCELLENT! Delicious blend of cheeses and the truffle oil had just totally put it over the top. I love all things cheese and you guys are my go-to place for lunch when visiting Reading Terminal Market! Thank you.
Our first time there and the food was great and the service was above and beyond! Thanks!
On our annual pilgrimage to the Flower Show we always stop by to get some of the best cheese ever at Valley Shepherd. Just the most amazing cheese you can find and certainly a destination in itself :) This year we got Sechwan Kenobi, Valley Thunder, and of course Crema de Blue - yum! See you again later this summer!
Amazing. Perfectly toasted and gooey. Wonderful way to showcase delicious cheeses.
If you eat cheese you should go here and have some, ya dingus. For your cheese!
We stopped at the market while traveling for work and this cheese shop caught our eye.
So many of their sandwiches looked good that it was really hard to pick. I decided to go with the Melter Skelter.
They only have one little grill, so it took quite a while for the sandwich to be ready. They warned you up front about that though.
In the end, it was well worth the wait. The sandwich was delicious. It was loaded with a ton of delicious cheese and the other flavors worked well with it. It also comes with chips.
I'd definitely recommend stopping here if you're in the market.
Delicious grilled cheese! Got the gluten free (celiac
Not trendy..) classic with bacon & tomato soup they were great! Staff was very friendly and prices were reasonable given the cheeses are in house made and farm fresh!
Had one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches I’ve ever had here. I was showing a friends from out of town around and it was cold and rainy out all day. This hit the spot like you wouldn’t believe.
I got the brisket grilled cheese and he got the cranberry and grilled onions. The cranberry one was actually my favorite with the mix of sweet and salty.
They are the nicest people with the best cheese! Go get a grilled cheese or a fancy grilled cheese and put a smile on your face.
Superb taste. Beef Brisket with Mac and Cheese Grilled Cheese. BBQ Chips and a drink. Kinda pricey but worth it
The sandwiches are pre-made but grilled when you order them, something can be added. Regardless the Ave D is one of the best grilled-cheeses I've ever had. Try the Toad in a Hole for breakfast! The cashier was so sweet too.
I got a Brielle here a few years ago and never forgot it. We went back recently and ordered it again. It was just as good as I remember it.
We also did sandwiches “to go”. They were every bit just as good the next day as they were on the spot. We had the Melter Skelter and Red, white and Green. Memorable in every way. Though the Valley Thunder was a disappointment. Quality ingredients though. I’ll be back.
Had the valley thunder which is sliced brisket, Mac and cheese and sharp cheddar in a grilled cheese format. The sandwich was decent, would of been better if it was smoked brisket, but I know this isn’t a bar b que place. Over all not bad, would get it again.
Came here for lunch after just getting into Philly. Can't go wrong with grilled cheese and this place did not disappoint (other than not being able to substitute different meats in the sandwiches - they make them ahead of time). I got the Melter Skelter which has raclette cheese, pickled green tomatoes, jalapeno, BBQ potato chips and watercress. Every sandwich is served with potato chips. All of it was delicious and wasn't super heavy either. The only annoying thing with this place is that they don't put their specials up on the board or on the paper menus. They're posted on the glass along the side of the shop so if you go up to order, you won't necessarily notice it. Other than that, it's a great option in the market and I'd definitely come back to try more next time I'm in town!
One of the best grilled cheeses I've had. The melter skelter was very good and I would go back here, but there is too many options in Reading Terminal Market! Grilled cheese served with chips was a nice afternoon snack.
GREAT GRILLED CHEESE! Upscale spot that also can cater to your kids! MeltKraft will grill your sandwich in duck fat or truffle butter if your taste buds call for it. The bacon is sliced thick and anyplace that has a mac and cheese grilled cheese should be on your list. Def a must whether you're a Philly native or a tourist visiting!
This is my most frequented vendor at Reading Terminal Market. My wife and I absolutely love their sandwiches. I've had the valley thunder, hula and fresh mozz and the fresh mozz is the winner far and away. The bread is chewy and the mozzarella is so fresh it has never been refrigerated. The chips that come as a side can sometimes be hit or miss, sometimes I've had plain and other times dill (I believe), I'm not a fan of the dill. Also, from time to time it seems like you don't get a lot of chips and other times you do, so hit or miss on that as well. Their fountain sodas are very tasty (Boylan) and they won't tell you this, but you get one free refill, which makes it a good value. The cream soda is the best.
The grilled cheese sandwiches are amazing and so filling. Tried the grilled Brie cheese sandwich and it was out of this world. So good, you'll want another one. Service was friendly and fast!
They have the best aged blue cheese in the world. I will never buy aged cheese anywhere else.
Grilled cheeses are full of flavor! Service is excellent. The only downside is we waited for a total of 1 hour during lunch time on a Saturday - but it was definitely worth it.
Ordered the ave d with ham and Carmelized onions from postmates. Absolutely incredible. Still good even when delivered. (Even better that I didn't have to leave my house) Caution: if you typically do not feel full after eating a grilled cheese...: YOU WILL AFTER THIS SANDWICH! 😉 Delicious. Well done MeltKraft.
Best grilled cheese sandwich I ever had (back in 2014). I bragged about it so much that last year a coworker went to Philly and got one on the way to the airport and brought it to me the next morning!
