Every meal we’ve had a Le Virtu (and we’re well into double digits) leaves us feeling great, not only about what we ate, but about life. There are only so many restaurants that are successfully rooted in the soul of the owners and the staff. Le Virtu is one of them. An evening meal on their patio, with the mural and the pergola and the street traffic, is what life is about!
Love the food, the vast selection of apps and main courses. The selection of beer and wine was on point and the service and atmosphere was beautiful. The outside patio is so pretty. I will definitely go back and definitely recommend this place to anyone.
Years ago, my husband and I dumb-lucked into this amazing restaurant and have loved it ever since. Last night, we celebrated our anniversary outside on the covered patio, enjoying a glorious, breezy evening and luxuriating over a fabulous three-hour dinner, capped off by Sophia and Marcello on the big movie screen.
We like to share everything in order to taste more dishes. We had a ball enjoying fried stuffed zucchini flowers, gnocchi affumicati, taccozzelle all' aquilana, and (omg) the porchetta. The pork stuffing in the zucchini flowers was spicier than expected, but still delicious. Both pasta dishes were wonderful, and I think we may be dreaming of the porchetta for a long time to come. A delightful white wine was suggested by our server. We had no intention of ordering dessert until we saw the menu, then we couldn't resist. Our choice of lu parrozz', a not-too-sweet flourless orange almond cake enrobed in dark chocolate ganache, was well worth it. To help us celebrate, two complimentary flutes of sparking wine were delivered with our dessert, making an already perfect evening even more perfect. When we arrived, we found that our reservation had been logged in for the wrong night. We were seated immediately without fanfare, and our evening proceeded flawlessly from there. Mille grazie, Le Virtu! We'll be back soon.
Had the best meal here last night for my 4 year anniversary with my boyfriend. We started off with the burrata in guazzetto, which was amazing! We could stop asking "HOW is this SO good?!" We split the Maccheroni alla mugnaia and Timballo col ragu di macellaio between each other. Both were delicious, the Timballo was to die for. Great texture and flavor. For dessert, we shared the brioche bread pudding topped with gelato. Another amazing dish. I was so full, but couldn't stop eating it. All in all, an incredible meal. The service was also great. Definitely going back in the future.
Really captured the Italy experience. Very reminiscent of a meal I had in Florence a few years ago. Great Salumi platter, perfect bowl of pasta, easy atmosphere. And real Buffalo mozzarella. Hard to top that!
Enjoyed our dinner very much. Food was excellent, wine was very good, service was a tad bit slow but it was fine. Loved the accordion and clarinet. Good music, good background, not very loud. Eating under the pergola was special.

Environment was on point. Service and wait staff were absolutely the best. We had a guy named AC (sp) he was the best ever. Good was impeccable. Everything you want out of a true Italian dish. Good to order with all fresh ingredients. Also I have a couple of food allergies and they were more than accommodating. We will be regulars now. ❤️
Eating at le virtu is like eating at home - if your mom was a world-class chef. Everything on the menu is so delicious, and the in-house cured meats are beyond compare. We come from out of town, so it's usually only a once-a-year visit for us, but each time is like a feast. And this past Sunday's was the best ever. Thanks!
went on the recommendation from a friend who lives in Philly and got me so excited to try the single strand pasta dish! I found myself in philly and made this my first stop with friends. on point and courteous staff helped makes our dining experience amazing. kale salad, fried risotto balls and scallops with cauliflower purée and single strand pasta was just the welcome wagon to Philly that we wanted!bravo! I will definitely be back!
Amazing menu, service and staff. Highly recommend it!!!
Truly authentic, delicious and unique cuisine. While dining at Le Virtu, you learn about a distinct pocket of Italian cuisine.
Everything is done with honesty and quality in mind. Lots of unique cheeses from Abruzzoyou won’t see anywhere else. Pastas are fantastic, as is the house charcuterie.
Great for both a bite at the bar, or a formal dinner. Keep your eye out for fun culinary events like “La Panarda,” a forty course winter feast, or in the spring try their namesake soup.
Awesome beverage list, great people and an obvious passion for what they do. If you haven’t been - go!
From the atmosphere, to the staff and the awesome food this is my go to spot for Italian food.
Great dinner for fathers day. $35 3 courses plenty of food on sunday and mondays. Best itailan spot i have tried in the city so far. If your thinking about it dont hesitate just go and you wont regret it.
My favorite Italian restaurant in the city with Brigantessa a close second. It is always excellent and the owners really care about making sure the customers have a great meal and experience!
Great experience. No one makes homemade pasta anymore. Andrew as always couldn't have done more. And Tre behind the bar was worth the trip alone.
We always enjoy the food, drinks and atmosphere here! Can’t wait to go again!
Great food. Would definitely recommend Real Italian food
What I just wrote at Yelp:
>>>I'm a vegetarian giving five stars to a meat-slinging restaurant, because they are everything you want a restaurant to be -- thoughtful, familiar, creative, always growing, solicitous but not overbearing, and authentic as they come.
Philly is lucky to have Le Virtu. Next time you think, "Hell, I'm so OVER Philadelphia," think, "Yeah, but then there's Le Virtu."
I mean, would you add a star to your review of Philadelphia because of one little restaurant in Passyunk? Yeah, you would.<<<
Great food, service and atmosphere. They don’t pile it on, rather the portions are just right and tasty.

GREAT food and AMAZING service. Me and my partner went last night around 4ish and we can't remember the female servers name, but she was very pleasant, knowledgeable of the menu and specials and she gave incredible recommendations. Thank you for the experience even though we couldn't finish our meal. We brought it home and sure will finish it.
Impeccable dining experience with a tremendous selection of faithful dishes from Abruzzo. One of the best meals we have ever had. Grilled squid was perfect, butternut squash filled pasta to die for, and great wine selection. Enough said, I need to plan a return trip.
Semplicemente Ottimo, qui non si sente la mancanza della cucina italiana (negli USA). Joe e' una persona splendida e uno chef eccellente. La pasta alla mugnaia e' fantastica, comunque ogni piatto e' preparato con la massima cura. . . in short a wonderful restaurant that serves truly authentic Italian food. Joe is a warm host and talented chef that puts passion into every detail.
Food was fresh and delicious ! Tuesdays you can BYOB which was a lovely surprise but they do have a full bar. Ambiance was fantastic and the staff friendly and knowledgeable.
Great people and great food!
Great people, great wine and the food is homemade fresh and tastes great
Outstanding dinner, service and movie in such a nice setting outside on such a beautiful night last night. Finished off the night at the bar with Tre, the best.
Excellent meal, as always, from start to finish. Looking forward to our next dinner at Le Virtu!
Great service! Superior bartender. Great for allergies. Super time!
Everything was excellent last night for our annual dinner club group. The service was exceptional, and the goat was to die for. We had goat tacos for dinner this evening with the leftovers using taco hearts tortillas. It was too good to go on just any tortilla. Thank you to Chef and the entire team!
My husband is from Abruzze in Italy. We came in due to seeing the restaurant on No Passport required with Chef Marcus Samuelsson. Food was outstanding. Very pleased. Only issue was parking.
Excellent choice of appetizer! The menu is good but some items might be a little too salty for some imo. Overall great dinning experience
Really good Italian restaurant! Some of the dishes were under seasoned a bit, but yummy! I'd recommend the burrata crostini, sausage polenta, pork loin, truffle pasta, and zoccele.
Excellent experience. I found this place as I explored South Philly. The food was exquisite and fresh. The best pasta I've ever had. My salmon was delicious as well. What a great combo of delicious food, tasty wine, cool and charming ambiance, and excellent friendly service at this neighborhood eatery. A must when I head back to Philly alone or with friends!!!
Our favorite place to take visitors for a nice meal! Delicious food, great service, and lovely ambiance (both their outside patio and inside). We always get the burrata, and there are plenty of other tasty dishes.
Amazing pasta. The single-strand pasta is the biggest surprise, simple and tasty. Tried a few other pastas, remember the ones with mushrooms very very delicious as well. Secondi so-so, so recommend just trying more pastas from the menu!
Best pasta in the city. Get the antipasto board and the tacozelli.
Edit 02/17/2019
Went back for dinner and I stand by my previous recommendation to get the antipasto board and the tacozelli. Definitely still excellent. Ordered a ton of other food and left feeling full and happy. Expect a slower paced meal here, ends up being much more enjoyable. Steak special was ridiculous and perfectly cooked
Delicious authentic Italian food and wonderful service. Looking forward to my next visit
I heard about the good work they have done for people in their community. So I gathered up 20 friends and made a reservation. I wanted to support a family owned business doing good in this world. They went above and beyond for us! The food was exceptional and authentic, as a world traveler, I know. The presentation was gorgeous even in family style! The staff and the owners worked hard to make sure all we could dream of asking for was already there! We will all go back and bring more of our friends for this lovely experience in dining that transports you from Philly to Italia.
The outdoor space is like no other on Passyunk. In its own little paradise, detached from the bustle of the busy Ave, the pergola and seating create an intimate dining experience with expertly seasoned Italian fare
Excellent, upscale Italian restaurant on East Passyunk Avenue. Also features a large outdoor patio. They also have happy hours during the week. Great place to grab dinner before heading to a game. Excellent service as well.
From the courtyard decor to the indoor ambiance this restaurant has the aesthetic appeal of the classiest of fine dining experiences. This is to say nothing of the staff, their cuisine or beverage selection. Both the front and back of the house are simply exceptional at what they do and work cohesively to provide an experience for patrons that at least in my experience has gotten me to come back time and time again. So far I’ve sampled a small portion of their menu and am immensely excited to continue working my way through it. Don’t be deterred by the menu which is mostly in Italian because the staff has a more than thorough knowledge of it and can break it down Barney style if need be. If you’re looking for a fantastic pairing of wine and exquisite/authentic Italian cuisine do yourself a favor and stop by Le Virtù!
Fantastic food and they absolutely nailed the taste of Abruzzo. The portions are generous, you can make do with just one dish.
Nice outdoor atmosphere, reasonable prices for the food, which has an authentic, distinct regional theme. Drinks are bit pricey, you can save by bringing your own wine and having them uncork it for a 15 dollar fee.
Try the crepes!
Went here for the first time ad it did not disappoint. We had the charcuterie to start and appetizer portions of 4 different pasta dishes which they brought out in 2 separate courses. Great way to try the different flavors. Each one was better than the next. Ordered a repeat of one of them it was so good. Service was impeccable. Absolutely delicious. Highly recommend. Will have to come back when the outdoor patio is open.
It was now the second time that I had the pleasure of enjoying the really good Italian food in this restaurant. This time, we were a party of 6 people and each and everyone was absolutely happy with the dishes. The portions are European sized and may be considered too small by "big US boys," but the taste counterbalances this more than enough! We shared Antipasti, Cheese plate and salads and had pastas and meat courses as mains. Everyone loved also the wine and cocktail selections!
I will come back for sure!
You can always count on Le Virtu for a high quality, authentic Italian meal. Everything is so fresh and delicious, the staff takes the time to explain all the different pasta dishes. My husband would marry the Taccozelle pasta if it were possible. Plus, they have wine "alla spina" (on tap).
In the summer, the back patio is adorable and really makes you feel like you're eating in italy.
Visited Le Virtu for a family party of about 40-50 people. Set menu. Excellent food that kept on coming. One more delicious than the next. Excellent and attentive staff. Very cool location and atmosphere. Especially the outside garden area.
