This afternoon Myself and two friends decided to eat lunch here. We had a very friendly waiter Andrew who was pleasant and attentive. My friend and I had the turkey platter that was delicious. Plenty of food that neither one of us could finish. We would have liked to take the rest home but having to drag the food on the train we decided against doing this. Next time we come back to Philadelphia we definitely will eat here again
Really great place for breakfast. Everything is made from scratch, and you can tell.

Retro fun!. What a cute little place to stop in for breakfast and pretend that you have stepped back into time. Malt shop like with an open kitchen, retro seating and bar seating. I had a fantastically adorable waitress that was fast, polite, and happy! What a joy it is to have happy people waiting on you! The breakfast menu was vast covering everything from mexican fare, to waffles and eggs any way you want. I had the breakfast burrito with home fries, fresh squeezed OJ and a perfect cup of coffee! I would return anytime! Loved my experience!!!

Love the poached on scrapple, good diner coffee, unfiltered apple cider. My server sang with the jukebox & remained genial despite some rude tourists. Sit at the counter for best service & hot food. And get a workout in first so you can indulge guilt free. :-)
Great burger. I wandered in one day during my lunch break and had to bring my boyfriend back the next. Nothing like a great burger with a cherry coke.
I have no idea how anyone can say they didn't love this place! The food is amazing! And all of their veggies are purchased from the vendors inside Reading Terminal Market. Fantastic fantastic fantastic!!! Don't listen to the folks that voted nay, they're insane!
The lovely ladies at Philly Food Lovers invited me to Down Home Diner at Reading Terminal Market to have lunch. I made it a point to not go during the peak lunch hours, but it was still really crazy busy in there! We got a seat in one of their booths, but everything else was full! Jack McDavid servers up home style cooking with a southern twist here. He famously wears denim overalls and a red and white "Save the Farm" trucker's cap and is super nice. I got a chance to meet him and he certainly serves up some great food. K got the fried catfish with mashed potatoes, broccoli, and philadelphia style pepper hash. This hash is amazing! It's a sweet and sour slaw of cabbage and bell peper with just enough spice. It would go well with anything! Here's C's Poached On A Biscuit… homemade buttermilk biscuit topped with salt-cured virginia ham, sliced tomato, and two poached eggs. There's
I am really glad this place had seating available, because that of why we stopped to eat here. Service was great and so was the warm cider. They didn’t have a couple things on the menu we tried to order, but the Philly cheese steak I ended up getting was amazing. I didn’t particularly care for the hush puppies and the toast was too burnt for my taste, but overall a great experience. The chocolate milk was also super chocolatey.
We came to the Market to walk around and check it out. As we came in the door we walked in and smelled the best smells ever!!! Glanced over and saw amazing plates of food. There was no way we could walk on by. We got French toast, breakfast bowl, freaking AMAZING , cream chipped beef, amazing! Everything was AMAZING!!! EVEN KAIT OUR SERVER!!! Fast & friendly!!! Will be back our next rip!
We had aunt Linda's kitchen sink platter and it was amazing. We tried scrapple for the first time and it was also great! Plate sized pancake! Highly recommend this plate. Server Ashley was really friendly and professional in her recommendations were on point.
Friendly staff, great food. Everything we ordered was perfect. Butter was liquid like we like it! We came in a Monday when it wasn’t too crowded. We will be back again!
It was a delicious breakfast. Definitely recommend the Brown Sugar Apple French Toast. More than enough apples to get one with every bite. I’ll make sure this is on my list of restaurants to eat at when I’m here next year for Marathon Weekend.
First time in Philly and this spot was a complete hit! The service was top-tier. As soon as I arrived I was immediately seated. The server, Angie, promptly took my order and was polite/efficient during the entire dining experience. The food came out quickly and was pretty good (see picture). And it was really affordable. The restaurant was also clean! I should also note all of this took place on a busy Sunday morning which makes this experience even more impressive.
We decided to stop in here for some breakfast on a Saturday morning. We arrived right at the opening time. We were seated quickly, and our order was taken very quickly as well. I was surprised at how quickly our orders were delivered. The food was good. Service was very good. Over all we were satisfied with our experience here.
Recommend, meets expectations.
The pancakes are huge and fluffy. Definitely enough to share between two. Got the pumpkins and it tasted great, not too sweet or dense. Perfect for the fall weather. Bacon was perfectly cooked. Chris, our server, and the other staff were nice and polite. Even though it’s busy, everyone still had a smile.
This is just good, no nonsense, down home diner food.
This is my favorite breakfast place in Philly. Farm to table place in Reading market with great southern breakfast. I'm from Atlanta and I don't usually eat grits outside of the south, but this place gets it right. (Biscuits aren't fluffy southern, The white lily flower from Southern Wheat is probably not available this way. But the gravy is solid.) They have a local sourcing for everything including homemade sausage from the Amish. Challa bread French toast, Fresh food, well prepared, & a solid choice for breakfast. If you are so inclined, don't sleep on the bloody Marys and mimosas.
Amazing experience and a great breakfast! If you are at Reading Terminal, highly recommend eating here for breakfast. And the prices are very reasonable! Angie is THE BEST! Warm and friendly and just on it. If you can get seated in her area, it’s a plus! We didn’t get pictures of our meal, but below is the fresh Almond Croissant that Angie recommended!
They were out provolone and cheese steak of all things. They don't have cheese wiz at all anyway so probably not a big loss. The meatloaf was small but pretty good. The chicken sandwich was the best item we had. The pimento fries were pretty good as well. The soup beans definitely could use some salt or other spice. They were pretty bland. Our server Emma was excellent. She helped us make choices and was very attentive the entire time we were there. She even brought a homemade biscuit to eat when we had to change one of our orders due to them running out of cheese steak. Probably not thier best day so we will have to try them again some other day. Thank goodness Emma made it fun so all the issues did not completely ruin our meal
Angie made us feel home away from home. The scram bowl was so good. The potatoes with cheese tasted like fondue. We will definitely be back tomorrow. Highly recommend coming early as there is a line out the door as I write this review. Yum!
Cried when I ate here; food reminded me of my childhood, eating breakfast every wednesday with my parents and grand parents.
Took home a cinnamon roll for my grandma. Overall food was amazing, gave me a nostalgia punch.
Service super friendly and prompt. Highly recommend.
I recently had the pleasure of being served by Angie, a fabulous waitress at Down Home Diner in Reading Terminal Market. Angie's exceptional service and friendly demeanor made my dining experience truly enjoyable.
From the moment I sat down, Angie greeted me with a warm smile and made sure I felt welcome. She was attentive to my needs throughout the meal, ensuring that my orders were taken promptly and accurately. Her knowledge of the menu was impressive, as she provided helpful recommendations and answered all my questions with ease.
What struck me most about Angie was her genuine care and dedication to ensuring a delightful dining experience. She paid close attention to detail, ensuring that my food was served hot and presented beautifully. Angie was quick to refill my beverages and regularly checked in to ensure my satisfaction. Her friendly and personable nature made me feel like a valued guest rather than just another customer.
Not only did Angie excel in customer service, but she also displayed excellent teamwork and multitasking skills. Despite the bustling atmosphere of Reading Terminal Market, she remained composed and efficient, attending to all tables with equal attentiveness. I was truly impressed with her ability to handle the demands of a busy restaurant while still providing exemplary service.
Overall, Angie's exceptional service at Down Home Diner made my visit a memorable one. Her friendliness, attentiveness, and dedication to customer satisfaction were outstanding. I highly recommend requesting Angie as your waitress when dining at Down Home Diner in Reading Terminal Market. She is a true asset to the establishment, and I look forward to my next visit knowing that I will receive the same exceptional service.
They had me at scrapple fries! Up from Raleigh for a short trip. Never ate here when we lived here
So glad we did now!
Crispy chicken sandwich was out of this world! Don’t sleep on the sweet potato salad… I would have never guessed it would be so good! Scrapple burger and scrapple fries are amazing!
Good dinner located in the Reading Terminal Market, in Philadelphia. We've been there on a Sunday morning for the breakfast around 9am and there were some seats available. 30 min later there was already a line in place waiting for a table. Food is good and prices are fair. Their homemade bread is amazing - it tastes really delicious!
