Great pizza at fair prices

Super-fresh ingredients and done to perfection make for an excellent pizza pie. I especially enjoyed a fresh veggie pizza, with wonderful sauce. And I think their prices are reasonable for what you get.

The owner, Luigi, is from Naples (Italy), my wife's hometown, so he knows how to cook proper Italian. The food is incredible, the portions huge, and the prices extremely fair. We found Luigi's after a short visit to Eastern State Penitentiary, just down the street a few blocks (they are also just a few blocks east of the Philadelphia Museum of Art). A simple place, it looks like a takeout pizza joint where you can get a slice and a soda and sit if you want, but the menu is much more extensive than you might think. Beside pizza, sandwiches, pasta, and salads, they offer chicken parmigiana, veal parmigiana, eggplant parmigiana, and chicken cacciatore, all $10.95, including a large side of pasta ($2.50 more for gnocchi, tortellini, or ravioli).

Luigi's has some of my favorite local slices. The store is a humble walk-up on Fairmount Ave with friendly staff and a casual atmosphere. Here, the pizzas fall on the part of the pizza-spectrum that I love: big, flat slices that are slightly floppy and has lots of toppings but not so many that they're falling all over you. These are walk and eat off a plate slices. I won't call them NY-slices cause those are in NY. The dough is chewy and has that bready, yeasty flavor when you eat the crust.

The best mozzarella sticks I’ve had in a long time. Salty, stringy, crispy, with delicious & hot marinara. I’ll probably drive in from the ‘burbs just for these stix. What more do you need in a place?

Before stepping in, I wasn’t expecting too much. All I know about food in Philly is cheesesteak (apologize for my ignorance). But I did not expect any outstanding pizza. With this being said, Luigi’s impressed me! I walked to the court and saw those pizza sold by slice. From their appearance I can tell things going on here are good. The first slice, with arugula and prosciutto, is flavorful and tasty in general. Crust is thin yet chewy. The second slice from a freshly made chicken and bacon ranch pizza. That slice could almost be separated into two slices. That slice is also full of flavor. The last slice is a Sicilian style cheese pizza, not as outstanding as the previous two, but also good.

This time I got the piccola blue pizza with shredded mozz, ricotta, and pepperoni. There were 12 huge slices and the pizza was amazing (and this is the "small" size blue pizza). This was my 3rd time here. I try something different every time and it's always delicious! Very solid pizza place that I will definitely be back to.

Fantastic pizza! My only complaint is they don’t have a soda fountain. But the pizza was so good I don’t care!

The many awards and accolades this restaurant has speaks for itself. The pizza dough/crust was very delicious. The service was quick and we had our slices of pizza within a few minutes. Unrelated to the food, the owner and his grandson were very friendly and with my limited Italian, was able to order in Italian. (That's how you know your pizza is good!!!) Excellent establishment to pick up a quick slice or hangout with family!

Fantastic pizza by the slice and a gluten free option! We visited as a school party and the staff were amazing. Everyone loved their food. Really close to the Rocky Steps and Eastern State Penitentiary. Diolch from Wales...

The authentic Italian cuisine was delicious. The thick Italian accent of Marco and his friend was like having dinner and a show. I was transfixed. LOL. I think I found the perfect spot to write some of my romantic poetry.

AMAZING! One of the best pizzas ever. Everything looked so good, I couldn't help but ordered way too much. The Caprese salad was so good. It was served on a bed a fresh, crisp romaine lettuce, topped with plump and juicy grape tomatoes and delicious pieces of fresh mozzarella. The staff were all so friendly and patient as everyone had a hard time deciding what to eat because everything looked so good. Will definitely be back, and I would recommend to anyone that is ever in Philly, go to Luigi's, you'll love it. I promise!

Delicious pizza!! We loved their Pepperoni and Hawaiian. I highly recommend pairing their bottled drinks with your pie(s). The staff is friendly. You do need to climb a small flight of stairs to enter. They deliver though, through third-party. Thank you 🍕
