I fell in love with the food here after the first bite. First of all, I’m not a fan of American food; however, Helm has changed my mind. This place is just became one of my favorite restaurant in Philly!
The best scallops I've ever had, so tender and flavorful. It was just WOW in my mouth! Everything we had was so good. And what I like most about here is their menu, they based on seasonal ingredients. So you get to try different dishes every season. Can’t wait to come back and try their next seasonal menu. FYI it’s BYOB here, which is a bonus!
It's such a cozy, fun vibe inside. Service was very attentive and helpful.
Highly recommend this place!
Such an intersting menu! My choices were
The Scallop, the pork ragu and the Gateau basque. I loved each and every plate and the flavors were so well-developed and complex. Not a dull moment with the food here. And despite just have 1 server, the service was spectacular! Definitely recommend this place and will make sure to come back to try their other dishes!
Outstanding and very interesting food. Beautifully crafted. The scallops were perfectly done - not easy to do. Very tender, moist and delicious sautéed coating. The Gateau tart was out of this world. Beautiful flaky pastry. Sorry for the half finished tart picture! It was just so good. The staff was very welcoming, polite, attentive, knowledgeable, helpful with suggestions when requested. Felt very comfortable and cared for. Atmosphere is cozy and intimate without being loud. Just loved this place!! Coming back with my adult children and friends. Highly highly recommend trying Helm.
One of the best restaurants in Philadelphia! It's a whole family vibe, staff is really kind and menu is pretty unique. I learned they are getting most of the ingredients from local farms - probably that's what makes the main difference, compared to other restaurants. Would like to come back! :)
Helm had been on my list to check out and I finally did when my friends came to visit from NY.
As soon as we approached the restaurant, we noticed a cozy space but packed with diners. We also knew it was a good sign when a pair of diners left with big satisfiable grins on their faces.
Although the space was small, it was cozy and didn't feel cramped at all. We arrived early as a big group of diners were about to leave. The waitress swiftly and expertly rearranged the seating configuration for us after the party departed.
This restaurant is unique in a sense where they do not have a printed menu. Their food items are listed on two black chalkboards. They rotate a few items every week or so depending on what's in season. In other words, farm to table style, hence the chalkboards to easily change up the menu.
Our group opted for 3 for $55 which includes one appetizer, one entree and one dessert. We were so full that we needed to pack leftovers home.
Some highlights - the tuna/pork belly appetizer was heavenly!! It's essentially tuna ceviche mixed with smoked pork belly. The texture of soft sushi grade cubed tuna mixed with tougher pork belly meat was a match made in heaven. Highly recommend this dish if they still have it on the menu.
Next, entree. We ordered the duck with mushroom raviolis and pork with grits. I must say that I was a bit disappointed with the duck dish. The ratio between the raviolis and duck in my opinion was a bit imbalanced. I would have liked to see less raviolis and perhaps a whole piece of duck leg instead of shredded pieces of duck meat. After all, duck skin harvests much more flavor than just the meat. The pork tenderloin over grits was much more appetizing in comparison. The pork was cooked to perfection, tender and juicy. The grits were seasoned very well with ground meat. This dish was very filly in all the god ways!
Last was the dessert. We got the beignets and deconstructed cheesecake. The beignets were delicious but not the fluffiest that I've tasted. The deconstructed cheesecake was phenomenal!! I have never tasted anything like this before! If you do decide to visit, DO NOT miss out on ordering this! I was told that this dessert was new on their menu but I pledged for them to keep this as a staple. The dessert was served with cream cheese on the side and a light bread cake. I don't even know how to describe it but it was just a party in my mouth. It was heavy nonetheless, but it was still enjoyable even eating it as leftover the next day.
I highly recommend this place! Pro tip: don't forget to make a reservation before you go. It's a cozy place with limited seating. And, it is BYOB! The restaurant accommodated our group with various drinking glasses as some of us brought beer and others preferred wine.
We had such a great time here. Everything was amazing and they give you so much food! For $45 per person, I don’t even think I can get all the ingredients for that price and make the food myself. Lamb legs, pork, humbolt fog cheese, heirloom tomatoes.. so good!
Service was great too. Food came out super quick. Don’t forget they’re BYOB so bring a nice bottle of wine!

This is one of a kind restaurant. I definitely recommend to at least visit this place one every 6 months. Their food is outstanding and it always depend on the produce that day. They never fail to suprise me. One of best restaurant here in Philly.
This is easily my favorite place in Philly. It's crazy to me to how amazing this hidden gem is. Always innovative, always fantastic. It could be the only BYOB I go to in Philly ever again and I would regret nothing.
Absolutely phenomenal experience, always! We are repeat customers and have always left completely satisfied. The carrots and the ravioli are personal favorites.
This is the cutest little restaurant where you would least expect to find AMAZING food!!!
Service was fabulous- thank you Amy for taking such great care of us. Let’s talk about the food…OMG…my mouth had a PARTY!!!! Flavors and presentation and combinations you won’t find anywhere else. I can’t find the words to express how YUMMY and pleasantly surprising these dishes were. Sorry I don’t have room for more in my tummy. Thank you Helm!
This place was so cool. We came with a large group and did family style which was pre-defined courses and meals, and loved everything! It's also in a cool location, and BYOB, so you really can't beat it.
Fantastic experience and fresh delicious food. Had a beautiful dinner with friends and shared many plates between us.
Byob!
Low key but adorable spot - like your trendy friend's home for a dinner party. They have a $45 3 course dinner (very good deal) and you can select from rotating options for each course. Everything we had was fresh, unique, and flavorful! Perfect for a date night.
10/10 it was amazing! Incredibly fresh, great atmosphere. BYOB! Homey environment. Recommend to all!! Go here!!!! Get the trout - crispy skin is life changing.
A must-try; just absolutely wonderful. Really high-kitchen and service at very affordable prices. We went multiple times during our trip and every time it was consistently presented, perfectly cooked and delicious to have.
This place is a total gem. Brilliant chef serving fresh ideas and ingredients in a cozy byo. Prix fixe
Such a great find. Everything was outstanding. From appetizers of squid octopus local vegetables to their entrees and desert. Their new York strip was outstanding. The scallops Their desserts like none other. Simply excellent
Ho-Ly smokes. From the moment one enters this domain of culinary delights, you are greeted by the server who genuinely desires to make your experience unforgettable.
I was told the menu changes according to what the chef procures, to ensure freshness.
The chef had prepared a chicken liver mouse, which I had on toast - what….? It was de-licious 😉👏 came with a little dish of strawberries with onions…. Wow! Would never imagine it would work, but…de-licious!
The main course, chicken, artichoke, and Swiss (I’m actually sitting in the place as I write this) is incredible 👏👏
I Love this place👏👏👏❤️❤️ So creative
