Reviews Mood Indian Restaurant

Wow - my fiancée and I just moved onto Randolph and were wondering what to do about dinner last night around 11pm. A quick search turned up Mood Indian, located right around the corner and open until 1am. "1am?" I thought, sure that it was too good to be true. A quick call confirmed that they were in fact open that late. We headed over and grabbed a table at the quiet, charming but understated restaurant and ordered the vegetarian sampler appetizer, garlic naan, malai kofta and palak paneer. The appetizer, consisting of one samosa, several pakoras and two fried cheese curds, was delicious and perfect size for sharing. I usually exclusively opt for the green chutney for my dipping sauce but it was the brown tamarind chutney that caught my attention this time, decidedly more spicy/tangy then I've had at other places. A few minutes passed and out came the naan and two main dishes, accompanied by a colorful bowl of basmati rice. The flavor of the sauce in the malai kofta was defined more by the spices instead of the cream that I am used to and the potato & vegetable croquettes were delicious. And you could really taste the spinach in the deep green palak paneer, a firm signifier of the authenticity of the food when compared to the tasteless green sludge you often get at other restaurants. You could smell the butter as soon as the garlic naan came out of the kitchen and it was cooked perfectly. After eating to our hearts' content (and still having plenty to take home), we let our waiter know that we had just moved around the corner and were greatly looking forward to making the restaurant a regular stop in the future. He insisted that he bring us dessert on the house and brought out a bowl of rasmalai. Now I had never had rasmalai before and words cannot describe the experience I had trying it for the first time. It was absolutely unbelievable. The cottage cheese crumbled and the condensed milk was the perfect sweetness. We savored every bite, paid the very reasonable bill (dishes average about $12) and were off, gushing praise with every step towards the door. I cannot recommend Mood Indian enough. The food is perfectly spiced, fresh, and authentic. The menu is expansive (plenty of options for veg) and the prices are a steal for the quality of the food. The fact that this place is open until 1am every night is honestly dangerous now that we live around the corner. Do yourself a favor and bring a friend or two to Mood Indian.

First time there yesterday. Really good food. I had the chicken jalfrezi & garlic naan. Delicious and wonderfully spicy. Highly recommend it for anyone looking for good Indian food on Girard Ave.

We come here often as they have nice vegetarian options. Our favorites are the Vegetarian Platter (samosa, veg pakora, and paneer pakora), Samosa Chaat, Bread Basket, Aloo Paratha, Paneer Paratha (must be mozarella instead of paneer), Aloo Gobi, Dal Makhani, and Mango Lassi. We usually order delivery but have dined in as well. If you're dining in, be mindful that it's a small restaurant. The staff is friendly and polite. We'll definitely keep going!

I moved to Virginia so when I come back to the area, I make sure I take a day to visit my daughter 3 blocks away from here. I always order palak (spinach) Cha-ana (chick peas), the best in the tri county area! Going back for more to take to VA with me. No indie food where I'm at..boo..

Some of the best Indian food I have ever had in my life. The naan in itself was to die for. This place is no frills, very basic seating and service but well worth it. Big spot for takeout is seemed like. Will be going again.

This was my first time trying Indian food and I absolutely loved it . The chicken tikki masala and rice was a bigger portion than I expected . I was able to take some home with me. The garlic naan was so flavorful and buttery . I also had the mango Tassi juice which is a yogurt/milk flavored juice . It kind of tasted like a sherbet . I highly recommend everything I listed . The server was also very kind and patient with explaining the menu and recommendations

This place is so delicious!! Especially the garlic naan which is a must order. It’s a 5 minute walk from my apartment and quick to fulfill orders! Their spicy is definitely as described. Try them out next time you’re in the market for a fantastic meal. Been trying something new each visit and haven’t been disappointed yet!

Killer takeout meal from Mood tonight. The saag paneer- creamy and restrained. The aloo cholley- nourishing and spiced with wonderful complexity. I felt the chicken tikka masala sauce was solid but the chicken was a tad tough- but small losses. Big ups to my main man running the checkout Ali. Super hospitable and warm. He made the typically mundane experience of picking up food even better. I will definitely be coming back.
