Worth the price. Everything is fresh, the egg rolls are amazing. The chicken and beef we got were good portions and quality.
Love their high standards of quality.. I stop in to Mr Chao at least once a week, never disappointed. All dishes are excellent, fresh and hand made from scratch. After chatting with the owners they are very concerned that every dish is freesh and tasty. Love the pecan prawns.
Fairly Expensive but worth it. For a Chinese restaurant, Mr Chao's is fairly expensive. However, the quality of the food makes it worth the extra. The decor is good and I would even consider this place for at least a semi-special occasion.
The food has really good flavor and a nice touch is that they have brown rice at no extra cost.
The only negative that I have is that the menu is a little limited.
One of my families favorite restaurants.
Good food. Went to Mr. Chao's a couple weeks ago. The inside of the restaurant is pretty dark in the evenings - they turn the lighting down pretty low. For me, it was too dark, so I'll probably pick up some carry-out next time; nothing like putting your diners to sleep. There's a huge difference between mood lighting and sleep-inducement, and theirs was the latter.
Besides the typical chinese reds an buddhas as decorations, the service was good and prompt. Our waiter returned several times to make sure everything was to our liking and refilling drinks when getting low instead of waiting for the otherwise inevitable empty glass.
The food was good. I had the General Tso's chicken and my wife had the shrimp and string beans. Both dishes had good flavor. The chicken in the GT was not the typical "bits" that most chinese restaurants use - these looked like actual chicken breasts that were sliced and breaded. The chicken seemed like top quality. My wife said the shrimp was nice and juicy and not over-cooked (which is usually how it comes out at other places).
All in all, I definitely recommend Mr. Chao's and I plan to go back for quality chinese food.
After being told about the amazing spicy won ton soup, my sis in law finally dragged me into Mr. Chao's for lunch. I am NOT a fan of spicy food..or at least I never was before I met the Spicy Won Ton soup. Sis ordered for us... One spicy won ton and one order of Mifun (not sure about the spelling of mifun but that is how its pronounced) The soup has a kick for sure but also a subtle peanut flavor that explodes in your mouth...I became ADDICTED to the combination to the point of embarrassment. It didn't take long for them to recognize me and before long, I could simply call ahead and request the "Lisa Happy Meal", to go and Andy knew exactly what I wanted to order!! I am a true fan. The restaurant itself is cozy and gives the feel of personal attention. Each and every meal (even soup) is made fresh to order and it shows. DELICIOUS :)
BEST Chinese food in the valley!!. I live near Anthem. When we have the bug for GOOD Chinese we make the hike all the way down to Ahwatukee to get some Mr. Chaos.
The service is always great. The food amazing. I just wish they were closer!!
This restaurant is a keeper.. I have only been to Mr. Chao's once...but that one time was well worth it. Their food was great, and the service excellent. It was a little pricier but in this instance it was worth the extra $$.
If you ever need to know what to have make sure just to ask for a suggestion here.
Mr. Chao's is great.
Food was delicious! We ordered tangerine beef and green bean chicken, food came out steaming hot, and right portion size. Service was great as well. We will definitely be back.
Although they've switched ownership, the classics remain! Ordered beef with peppers & fried rice, with a side of BBQ & hot mustard. Everything was expertly prepared, and the mustard is a 9/10 on the eyewater meter! Personal preference, beef was a little on the fatty side, other than that, repeat customer for sure.
Amazing!!! We will most definitely recommend this restaurant to all our friends! Everyone is so friendly and the food and service were phenomenal.
Super awesome place. Went with my girlfriend on a day where there was no staff but the husband and wife (owners). Food came out really quickly between the two of them. The wife was super kind and paid a lot of attention to the tables/guests. GREAT local "ma and pa" shop
First time customer, recent transplant to AZ from the east coast. Ordered takeout here on a Friday night, so was fully prepared for the 45 min wait-time and that wasn't a problem for us. Staff was warm and friendly and the place was clean. The food was truly fresh and delicious, I'd say quite a noticeable step above your typical Chinese takeout. My only pain point was that the portions were small compared to the hefty price tag. None of the containers (save for the rice) were completely filled; the contents barely touched the lid. Spicy garlic eggplant with tofu is my favorite dish and isn't a standard on many takeout menus, so I was excited to find it, but I feel like $17+ is a little steep for the quantity provided. (Really, it was the $3.50 fee to add a few chunks of tofu that felt like a bit too much to me.) Still, the quality of the food was undeniable and we enjoyed each dish (Szechwan string beans were delightfully robust in flavor, huge chunks of high-quality chicken in my partner's sesame chicken dish, etc.), so I will likely keep Mr. Chao's handy for those nights where we feel like really splurging on our takeout.
Just finished our dinner and had to jump right on and give them a 5 star review. Not only was the food amazing but the service was too. We will definitely be back!
First time here, and I was pleasantly impressed. Food was fresh, smelled and tasted great. The server was nice and accommodating.
The spicy wontons in peanut sauce was AMAZING! Great to share with friends. We will be back!
We were in town visiting family for Thanksgiving. Everyone decided to go to Mr. Chao's the day before Thanksgiving because no one wanted to cook. I can't claim to be an expert in Asian food but I have to say that this little restaurant is a gem. The food is some of the best Asian fruit of ever had in my life. The service was great! Over all it was a wonderful experience that I hope to repeat the next time I'm in Phoenix. My compliments to the chef and the staff. If you live in Ahwatukee near by and you have not tried Mr. Chao's it will quickly become one of your favorites.
Very clean and pleasant atmosphere, and the pepper beef with vegetables was delicious. Quite a few people there for dinner and seems to be a popular stop. I've only been one time and had a great experience, so I'll be making another visit for sure.
Service and food were both excellent. I went with a large party and we tried half the menu pretty much, it was all amazing. Special shout out for the eggplant and basil shrimp dish- that's my new favorite eggplant thing.

Love this place! Tried a few things like the pot stickers and the won ton soup was awesome! Never had a sake bomber, but did it that night and that is the way to go. Best restaurant I have had since I have moved to AZ. Thanks for the excellent service and quality.
Enjoyed the food so much. The crab puffs were out of this world! The owners are very warm and welcoming. Great, relaxing atmosphere.
I've been going to Mr. Chao's for quite a few years. The best Chef in Ahwatukee. Order anything. I have never had a bad meal here. The owners are very professional and courteous. Very clean and relaxing.
Great tasting food. The family really liked the fried rice. We've been looking for a place that has good Chinese food and this it. It's kind of pricey, so we probably won't be visiting as much as we'd like to.
