Reviews Calhoun's

I’ve had two experiences at Calhoun’s the first time in January of 21, when my party of two was one of four people in the business and on Thanksgiving day 23 when every table was packed. Both of the experiences were good and in a non-foodie rich location would be a five star experience. Great place to grab a meal and a drink if you’ve eaten at the other higher rated places, but if time is short this is a place you may want to skip. Specifically we arrived at 11:15 and did not have our food delivered to the table until after 12:20. Our waitress was attentive, but it appears that the back of the house and the supporters just don’t have it together. Our dishes stacked up thankfully we had plenty of places around us to stack the dirty ones to make more room on what was a very small booth for a larger party. Food was good, but nothing stood out as being above and beyond, except the pumpkin pie which was great. The Thanksgiving Turkey meal wasn’t bad, but was just a smoked version of what you would get at Bob Evans. The Prime Rib was good, but missing some essential elements like a horseradish sauce to make it on par with the price point. The smoked sausage appetizer was also exceptional. The other personal pet peeve of mine was the inability to make substitutions on the Thanksgiving meal. I can appreciate that restriction in a non full service restaurant, but it leads me to believe that they were premade, leaving no excuse for an hour service time. As a result of that restriction, my table made the error of ordering the side of green beans. If you know my reviews green beans are one item that will send me into a frenzy if not done well. I may or may not have been banned at Paula Dean restaurant when the server convinced me to order the beans by assuring me theirs were “better than her Grandma’s”. I will say these weren’t bad, better than Paula Dean’s and leave it there (just like the beans here didn’t make the doggie bags). The atmosphere is very cool and mountain chic. Our booth table would be better suited to a group of four, based on the table space alone. All and all a solid 4 star experience.

My ribs were average at best. Definitely not fall off the bone type. Maybe just a little over cooked. Service was outstanding. No wait time

We wanted a dining experience authentic to the area. The atmosphere has a super chill vibe, plenty of seating that’s spaced apart. Great menu selection. We tried a trio ribs, pulled pork, and brisket with a side of baked beans and sliced apples. Everything was good. The ribs were a tad dry. The brisket and pork were great. They come out seasoned. You can add their Tennessee whiskey sauce! (Vinager taste, Tangy, slightly spicy)

Went here for our last night in Gatlinburg Tennessee for vacation after reading reviews. Our waiter was very good, constantly checked on us to make sure we were good and kept our drinks filled. Food came in a timely manner and was very good. Bacon wrapped burnt ends are amazing as well as the pork chops I had. Their in house BBQ sauce isn't as sweet as I tend to to like but was ok. Overall good experience.

Calhoun's is a must anytime we visit Pigeon Forge. We've been eating here for years. Why? Because the service staff is always friendly and attentive. Food and drinks are always top shelf. Great quality and value. Our most recent trip we went twice in the same week. Our first evening, Tonya was our waitress. She really made our meal and experience special. Then we went back another evening and Aron was our waiter. And once again an over the top experience. Super young man, great attitude and personality. You can really tell he enjoys helping people.

Calhoun's in Pigeon Forge has amazing ribs! The Spinach Maria is also delicious. Our table also had catfish which was very good. Service was prompt and courteous. We were seated at precisely our reservation time. Highly recommend.

This place is very good. We were told the wait would be 45 minutes but we were sat down within 15 minutes. The service was excellent and the food was great. You can get all you can eat bread while you wait for your food. I highly recommend the pretzels with cheese for an appetizer. The bbq chicken sandwich was amazing. We will be back to this place.

They were very busy so our food and drinks didn’t come out as quickly as we would’ve liked but it was totally worth it. The sausage and cheese plate was delicious even the kids loved it! The steak my husband and I ordered was the best we’ve had at a restaurant so far. It had so much flavor and was tender! Will be back!

Always friendly service with the best complimentary bread basket you'll ever have. Tried splitting the BBQ nachos thinking we'd have room for dessert, but that was before we saw the nachos! There had to be at least a pound of meat on those. Amazing. (Could use a thicker, stronger chip under all that weight, but can't find it in my heart to gripe at these folks!)

We were wary because of the 3.8 rating. But this was an excellent experience. Our server Garrett was top notch, our drinks were never empty and his recommendations were spot on. We had bacon wrapped burnt ends of brisket as an appetizer, along with the smoked turkey lunch plate as our entrée. It was a very large portion for a lunch plate. We ended up with 2 to go boxes for leftovers. The meal was excellent. The appetizer was excellent. The service was sensational, friendly, knowledgeable and very attentive. Definitely NOT a 3.9 at lunchtime in Pigeon Forge. I will go there again.

Stopped in for lunch. Checked out restaurant reviews before stopping and was a bit hesitant. Wonderfully surprised. Had a smoked turkey lunch special. Excellent. Had mashed potatoes, dressing, choice of side, bread etc. Server Garrett was great. Personable and observant. Didn't let our glasses get empty! Had LARGE portions so got to go boxes and had again for supper!
