Stopped here on our way to the Phillips conservatory and botanical gardens. Nice place to get an American meal. Enjoyed the chicken bacon ranch pizza! Good service and chill vibe. Seems like a solid option if you’re the University of Pittsburgh/ Botanical Gardens in the area.
Amazing! I happened upon The Porch at an event in Schenley Park, Beer at the Bosque. My friend and I decided to try their food first hand. We went for lunch and were thrilled to see the affordable selection of child's plates at just $6. They have a family friendly atmosphere and the restaurant is easy to navigate. There is a family restroom along with a HUGE accessible women's restroom. I didn't peek in the men's room, so I have no clue. The bar opens at 4pm however they are extremely accommodating. They are cross trained so while there is no bartender at the bar there are people who can make your drink if you wish to have one. I went in for a quick visit and was served at the bar immediately. The staff is extremely welcoming. We enjoyed our food and loved sitting outside. Our only complaint was the harsh paint smells during renovations. Otherwise, this is a perfect place for a lunch date, lunch meeting, or dinner. The green grass parks, and scenery is spectacular. I love the artwork on the walls, recycled bicycle parts. Great job!
We decided to finally try out The Porch and I'm glad we did! What really stood out to me about this place was the exceptional service and the ambiance; this restaurant is gorgeous, and being located at the foot of the Cathedral just makes it beautiful. You also walk right past cabbages growing outside and we learned that they have bees on the roof, which is so cool! The waitstaff is very attentive and incredibly lovely.
We really enjoyed the meal. My aperol was great, the glassware especially is really special. The truffle burger was really tasty, I liked that they give you the option to build it yourself. It was pretty clear that the burger was pre-shaped, which I didn't like as much, but it was still good for the price. The margarita pizza really was the thing I was most disappointed about; the woodfired dough was great and the tomato sauce was delicious but typically I expect fresh mozzarella on a margarita, not pre-shredded mozzarella. It was still really tasty, and I liked the build it yourself options for that as well, but it would have been better advertised as a cheese pizza.
Overall, I really enjoyed the Porch and I will absolutely be back for more menu offerings, I really enjoyed the atmosphere and you just can't beat the location!
Wonderful atmosphere for rainy days in early fall. The truffle burger was absolutely delicious. Will be coming back to try the lobster mac!
Came here with a group on a Sunday for Brunch. Arrive early because parking can be hard to find. After the fact I found out that there is a parking garage across the street which is free on Sunday 😩
The restaurant was very busy. Looks like there was a graduation that took place and this was the place of choice for brunch.
Food: I really wanted the chicken and waffles but since they only offered dark meat I decided to go with the Veggie burger. It was okay but the fries were nice and seasoned .
Alot of people in my group ordered the chicken and waffles but the waffles were hard. They brought them out some new ones in which you can clearly feel the difference.
Amongst the group the food was okay. Some had the biscuit and gravy, avocado toast, and potatoes.
They ordered a mimosa pitcher, side note ask for no ice unless you want it watered down after a while.
The spot itself is nice just don't think I'll be back for brunch.
I honestly never heard of this place and I lived at Pitt for a little while. Let me tell you the atmosphere is fantastic and you have a great view of the cathedral and park right outside. The way the lunch line was set up was different. You stayed in line walked up and ordered your food and sat down anywhere with a table buzzer. This led to some confusion with the people bringing your food out cause they had no clue where anyone was sitting. I ended up getting the special pirate burger. I ordered in medium rare because that's the only way to eat a juicy burger lol. Well it came out more medium well and so did my wifes. It was good but I had to add some hot sauce to it cause the meat was so dry. My wife got the truffle burger I believe it was called. She thoroughly enjoyed it except the fact that the meat was over cooked. After waiting 15 minutes in line to place and order we probably waited another 30-40 minutes for our food to come out during lunch. We will be back to this place just cause the atmosphere and would like to try their dinner menu.
Great view of the park from "the porch".
Food was good. Lemonades were okay. Water glasses left on the table outside seemed dirty, but that's to be expected. Be cautious before pouring yourself a drink.
Service was great. Waiter was courteous, informative and a delight to speak with. However, the food was relatively expensive, it can get busy, and it can be a lengthy wait for your food or the bill.
First time at any location of The Porch and I was impressed. A lot of great options on both the food and drink menu, including about 12 draft beers (some from local breweries).
Since I was with a group, I sampled three of the appetizers: white bean hummus, cornbread, and brussel sprouts. I would gladly order the first two on any future visit. I generally don't like brussel sprouts but the one I tried wasn't bad at all.
For my entree I chose the seared tuna special rather than something from the menu. It was beautiful and absolutely delicious.
The service was pretty good, but they were definitely busy. Our server was hilarious and kept us laughing. He made good and honest tips about the menu and warned us that the kitchen was a little behind. (I still think our food was served in a reasonable amount of time, especially for a party of 8.) He did forget to tell us about the specials; I am so glad I saw the tuna special listed on the board when I walked in.
There is another location of The Porch closer to home that we've never visited. After our experience at the Schenley location, I am eager to check it out.
Food wasn't anything to write home about. It was good food - I got the panzanella salad special with chicken. It was something I could cook at home, so that is promising. And the veggie-type pizza was good, but nothing special.
Definitely a nice place to get casual eats close to Pitt's campus.
Good spot to grab a bite!
Location is nice, while not being located for immediate parking, is located conveniently within very simple walking distance of various parking options.
Start off the meal served with aesthetically pleasing glass water pitchers while you wait for your food and custom drink orders. We were seating immediately. The menu is a little under informative on what you’ll be receiving in your dish. For example, I ordered the omelet, and it didn’t say how many eggs, what “seasonal” ingredients might be added, etc. Just said it was an omelet made with seasonal items.
Extra thumbs up that they will allow you to bring your own bottle of wine (corked) and uncork & pour for you to enjoy during your meal. Very unique.
Overall food was great despite not really knowing what would be coming in it. Definitely worth a visit!
