Great authentic Italian cuisine! I ordered the Blanco Roberto and boy was it yummy. The portions are great, one pizza is great for a large dinner or you can share for a smaller lunch. The staff is also very friendly and best of all there are free samples for the gelato flavors!
I think our favorite pizza is the pizza from Mercurio's in Shadyside. It's a bit of a drive for us, but it's always worth it. The weekend before SP had surgery, I asked him where he wanted to go for Saturday dinner. He chose Mercurio's because he wanted delicious comfort food. So that's where we went, meeting up with our friends D&J.
Mercurio's is one of our favorite restaurants. We don't get there too often since we live in the west suburbs and Mercurio's is in Shadyside. We try to go in the warmer months because, while pizza is delicious year round, I think gelato is best in warmer months. Or at least my stomach thinks so. We went 2 weekends ago on a warm and muggy Saturday evening. As usual we started off with the Insalata Della Casa, fresh greens with fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, parmesan, balsamic, and crostini.
Pistachio gelato. The pistachio gelato is out. of. this. world. good. I'm sure the other flavors are amazing as well.
Wonderful food. So fresh and simple but tasty ! Great prices and of course the gelato is to die for.

Wonderful dining experience. Every pie we've ordered has been delicious, and on one visit the pizza chef treated us to a demonstration of the entire pizza-making process. Good beer and wine selection, and you end the night with gelato. What's not to love?!?!

The best gelato. In my opinion, it's some of the best gelato I've ever had. Maybe it's just the selection of gelato, since they rotate new flavors in periodically. They also use a lot of fresh ingredients (for example the black cherry bordeaux consists of.... black cherries and real bordeaux wine, not some flavoring agent). Given that it IS an ice cream shop it's a great place to take the kids. Their flavors range from the ordinary (vanilla), to kid friendly (birthday cake), to adult (the aforementioned black cherry bordeaux), and things in between (dark chocolate stracciatella). My favorite is probably the green tea, when they have it on rotation. A simple flavor but surprisingly delicious.
Really nice atmosphere and location. I brought my parents for lunch and we all had paninis, which were amazing. The homemade gelato afterward was also delicious, I would highly recommend.
Best you can do for any frozen dessert in Pittsburgh. Perfect Gelato and wonderful sorbet for those unfortunate souls that can't consume dairy. Love the fact that they moved onto Walnut Street and closer to my apartment :D
It appears as though they are opening up an authentic pizza kitchen directly behind the current location. It was something I heard the owner talking about a couple years ago and I guess it finally came to life. Can't wait!
Great Gelato. I love their gelato. In the past I have driven from Mt Lebanon to Shadyside to get my fix of Death by Chocolate, Frozen Banana or Cherry Bourdeaux. They are now selling Mercurio's gelato at Blue Horse Coffee ( across from the Galleria Mall) . Fresh and good just like shadyside.

When you take your first bite, you'll can't get over the smooth and creamy texture and the vibrant flavors! I can never decide what I want every time I visit. Excellent!!!. The line out the door on a hot summer day might be proof enough that something special is inside. In an ever-changing array of flavors, this family-owned business presents Pittsburgh with its most authentic gelato and sorbet. I have been to this place well over fifty times and will keep going back for more. My family goes even when it is cold outside. For people who feel sick from too much sugar or fat when they eat ice cream, gelato is the answer. They use the freshest ingredients and make a product that is lighter than air, with less of the filler junk that is in 99% of ice creams. The flavors are intense and delicious. The service is also excellent and efficient.
So many flavors!!. I never know which flavor to pick when I go in to this cute little shop because they are all delicious, rich and creamy. They weigh their gelato and charge by the ounce so you get exactly what you pay for. It's a little expensive compared to ice cream, but it's completely worth it for a treat. Mmm....
Mercurio’s is operated by Anna and Michael Mercurio (siblings). It’s obvious that this family run business cares about quality ingredients and the tradition of making food from one’s heritage. Michael is the head chef and is certified by the Italian government to make Neapolitan pizza. Neapolitan pizza is distinct from other pizzas because Michael must follow certain rules. I learned, after reading up on the guidelines on Mercurio's site, that the foundation of most pizzas is simple, fresh ingredients like San Marzano tomatoes for the sauce and mozzarella cheese. The dough consists of wheat flour, yeast, salt, and water. Michael is not allowed to use a rolling pin while ensuring that his dough is no more than 3mm thick. He then bakes the pizza 60–90 seconds in a 485 °C (905 °F) stone oven with an oak-wood fire. The flavors and textures you get from this specialty oven are incredible.
Like custard, gelato is a low-fat ice cream alternative. It’s lighter than custard, heavier than standard ice cream, and silkier than both, with a lovely, velvety finish to each taste. Mercurio’s boasts thirty standard flavors and a smaller menu of special daily flavors. The organization at the shop was not top-notch (almost none of the display cases were marked correctly and some of the flavors labeled to be available were not in stock), but there’s no denying that the variety gives a customer a lot to play around with.
The gelato was very good, but I think I would enjoy it more on a warmer day! The hostess and servers were very friendly and helpful. They all made efforts to greet guests and keep them informed. We definitely liked the pizza and gelato. We'll definitely be back - plus, they have a lasagna pizza. It looked really tasty as well. A bonus on the night we went was that we got to use a City Dining Card.
Mercurio's Frozen treats are good, especially during the hot summer months. Sometimes I'm in the mood for a crushed-ice (like Rita's), regular ice cream, or gelato. I have to admit, I've only had gelato a handful of times… it's good, but much different from ice cream. Mercurio's gelato How does gelato differ from regular ice cream? Butterfat. Gelato has lower butterfat content, and is also churned a little slower, making it denser than ice cream. It had been some time since I enjoyed a cup of gelato, so while in Shadyside, I stopped into Mercurio's on Walnut Street. Gelato is usually served from rectangular stainless steel containers. There were many flavors to choose from at Mercurio's; (fresh fruit choices looked especially good) I decided on chocolate. The dessert was served in small cup with a teeny spoon. The place looks cozy, with excellent services. They offer a part of the Italian cuisine known as Pizzara, making it a destination solely for experiencing delicious pizza. Additionally, they provide a tasty, top-notch gelato as a dessert option. During our visit, we tried their Truffle Pizza, which was truly impressive in various aspects.
Excellent pizza, light but filling. 2 pizzas were enough for a group of three. We had the olive pizza and the dela casa pizza and they were both very good. The gelato is fantastic and having both main course and dessert in the same place is fun.
Had lunch outside. Server was excellent! Had the Margarita pizza and the prosciutto and arugula pizza. Both were great choices. Will definitely go back. The tables were very wobbly outside and the metal seats were scalding hot but was so nice to be outside and people watch.
Wow, the pizza here is so good! It’s definitely worth the wait. I came during peak time, so I joined the waiting queue and waited 20min. But when I sat down, I could smell the delicious food. We ordered a salad, one prosciutto, one margherita, and I would strongly recommend the prosciutto pizza! We also got ice cream, and there’s a line you need to get up to even though you are sitting down. But you can choose to put the cost on the tab of the table and pay together with the pizza later. There are many flavors to choose from, and the price depends on the weight of the scoop, and you can choose different cup sizes, which correspond to different ranges of ounces. I got a small cup of chocolate, and it’s good. I would definitely come back and try different flavors (and ofc the pizzas)!

Yum!! Pizza and calzone were amazing, house made mozzarella and sauce are incredible. Quick service and lots of flavors of great gelato. Seating in here can be tight, I wouldn’t bring a group here.
Favorite pizza in Pittsburgh! Classic thin crust Italian pizza wood fired by an imported Italian oven. Any pizza you get will be phenomenal - simple flavors like the Margarita and Bianca shine and so do more complicated pizzas like the Lasagna. Then get a bite of gelato after 😊
The pizza was absolutely delicious. Our waitress was super attentive, and our table was regularly bussed. A little on the pricey side, but that's to be expected for such quality pizza! I can't speak highly enough about the quality of the food. And of course, the gelato was equally tasty. Would recommend this place for a nice date night!

Really authentic they have amazing gelato and sorbet‘s. I got an anchovy pizza with a single shot of espresso a scoop of raspberry sorbet and a cone with a scoop of hazelnut and vanilla in it in a waffle cone. Everything is extremely reasonably priced the pizzas are all less than $20! The wait staff was all so nice and so friendly. Everyone who works here is very timely. They said they were looking to hire a pizza maker on the door but everything was still made so quickly and deliciously! I will definitely be back I love this place the vibe is perfect. They also have really nice art inside for sale!

Definitely the best pizzeria in and round CMU campus. If you are into the Neapolitan styled pizza, this is must try.
Have had both tomato sauced and white sauced pizzas here, both are really great. They do have many vegetarian options as well.
We visited our old neighborhood in SS and had to stop here. We patiently waited for this pizza oven to come from Italy nearly a decade ago. The pizza and Gelato are as delicious as ever!
A must visit. I came back to Pittsburgh 6 years after graduating and wondered if it was as good as I remembered. I’d also live in NYC so I knew I might be harsh with my pizza feedback however no feedback needed here! This place is still awesome. We didn’t try the gelato but the pizzas were great. I’d probably skip the panzanella salad when I go the next time, but I love how thin their pizza dough is. Yes this is not an NYC slice but is equally delicious. Some of the staff was also interacting in Italian which made the experience even more authentic and homey.
Best pizza place in Pittsburgh. We had Bianca and Calzone. Bianca was really really good 😊🤤😊 My fiancée had a espresso and she liked it but not so much the calzone.
This place was amazing. He atmosphere is open and friendly and the staff are kind. The food was also amazing, especially the pizza crust. It was a bit soggy and thin on our one pizza but the other was crispy and amazing. Then they have a gelato bar with so many flavors! I highly recommend a trip out here.
