This is one of my favorite restaurants. We frequent quite a bit because they are around the corner and we are always happy. The staff is so friendly and helpful, the food is excellent, and it's a casual ambiance but top notch food. They are accommodating when we bring our toddler (wish every restaurant was as nice!). The soft scramble for brunch is seriously one of the best dishes I've ever had. We hosted a private event at the Vandal for a birthday and it was the best night- warm, relaxed ambiance, tasty food, and a flexible atmosphere that allowed us to tailor the night to our needs. Highly recommend this restaurant!
The food was awesome and different. They had foods I had never heard of and some I had, all prepared in a unique way. The staff is first rate. The building is old and looks to be in the middle of a remodel or they just like the funky vibe. Very clean. Kinda loud, but so was our group of 7. We made reservations and everything was ready one time. I would recommend reservations as they only seat about 30 maybe and they were full. Highly recommend
Well first off our Grandson Joey is the most likeable person and this is his restaurant. The soft served eggs are the best ever and the 5 grain bread it comes with is so good, also the egg sandwich, the biscuits are so good that it comes with..The Cappuccino was also good and fresh coffee in big mugs...Love our Vandal ....
Great place!! Simple menu with quality ingredients. Pittsburgh is really missing a good place to get casual, inexpensive food, so I'm so glad this place is finally here. The burger is just right-- they served it on a delicious, buttery, brioche bun, with homemade pickles. I can't wait to try the rest of the menu items. Apparently the breakfast is the real deal!

Love this place❤Service is all it should be.....prompt and welcoming. The food is delicious no creative. Highly recommend!
Delicious, beautifully plated food with unique flavors and textures. Great ambience, a staff that cares about your experience! Highly recommend!
The poached lobster with mushrooms and risotto was some of the best lobster I’ve had. Lovely mix of sweet and salty in the pistachio custard. Bonus that it was BYOB.
Incredible every time. Delicious burger, some of the best fried chicken I've ever had, creative and delicious snacks, with a small menu that stays fun and fresh. Oh and a great staff of friendly talented people!
I've been to the Vandal for breakfast and it's really good. We just had dinner with friends, and it was fantastic. Great farm to table menu items. We cannot wait to go back. We also love that it is BYOB!
Never dissapoints. The food is always excellent, fast, fresh and creative. I adore this place. If you're not eating here, then what in the hell are you waiting for? Csilla, Joey and company have created something special. Eat. There. Now.
Excellent food and great atmosphere. Staff was excellent, and the service was great too. I highly recommend this spot. Great food that doesn't break the bank, perfect in my book.
Consistently great staff, service, and the best food every time! Can't get enough (so I'll keep coming back until I do).
Delicious. One of the best meals I’ve had in Pittsburgh.
Amazing food, people and atmosphere 👌🏻I went for brunch and everything was so fresh and delicious. Will definetly be back many many times.
A beautiful meal! The space is small but special, the menu really celebrates the ingredients. Looking forward to returning.
We had an amazing time here with excellent food and environment. They really know how to make creative toasts, both food mousse and shrimp toasts were the best. Steak tartare and squid casarecce a bit salty but still flavorful. They also got good scallops, huge, buttery, and tender.
We were so excited to be able to check out the renovations and new summer menu last night. As always the service was impeccable and the atmosphere had that perfect date night vibe. We can’t help but over order when we come here but everything was so delicious it was worth the need for sweats when we got home. We started with the fresh bread service and olives, the breads crust was baked to perfection but a tip I wish I would have known. Don’t butter all of your bread if you get the olives, dip a little of that crusty goodness into their amazing olive oil. Don’t debate on whether or not to get the pea and ricotta fritters, just do it. Whatever the green sauce is I wish I had a jar on hand at home. I loved the chicken and thought it was perfectly cook but would not have been made if there was more salsa verde for every bite. We also had the bass which was good but I saw the pork and should have gone with that only because the fish was slightly over cooked on the edges and the piece was smaller. Just figured if you are reading this and torn between the bass and anything else on the menu I’d go with option 2. We ended the night with the flourless chocolate cake and could have shoved another piece of that somewhere because it was divine. We both had the white Negroni which we LOVED and split whatever the tawny port with hits on raisins was and it was quite tasty and paired perfectly with the dessert. Definitely worth every penny.
We had our June 2022 wedding rehearsal dinner at The Vandal -- a no-brainer for us as its one of our favorite neighborhood restaurants to enjoy seasonal food and great wine. We had the whole restaurant to ourselves for about 30 guests, and it was intimate, relaxed and truly lovely. We worked with Evan to create a hand-selected seasonal menu and also had input on the cocktail and wine offerings, but they surprised us (in the best way) on the day of and had our picks plus many more cocktail, beer and wine options. Everyone raved about the food, drinks, wonderful hospitality and intimate atmosphere. Thank you to the whole team at the Vandal for kicking off our wedding weekend in the best way!
The Vandal is a lovely restaurant on busily Butcher Street. The decor is simple yet chic with a rustic charm. I found the restaurant on a local guide in search of eateries for a day trip to Pittsburgh. I ordered the smoked salmon with scrambled eggs. DIVINE. All of the flavors complimented each other perfectly. Delicious food, kind staff who were attentive, and overall beautiful aesthetics. Definitely make a reservation for Sunday brunch.
We’ve been meaning to try this place for a while now and finally got a reservation on Sunday for brunch. We ordered the coffee, bread sampler, frittata, and salmon dish. The food was great..but there was something missing (maybe we had high expectation because of all the hype and hard to get table?). That being said, the servers were great and gave us their honest recommendations. I honestly would come here again if the table is readily available.
P.S. if you haven’t figured it out already, do reserve a table since they don’t take walk ins. We saw 3 groups getting turned down in the span of 1 hr
The food and drinks here are both amazing. I’ve never been served a more aesthetically pleasing and delicious meal in my life! And the service was great. I’ll definitely be returning!
Beef Cheek Croquettes and the Foie Mousse are phenomenal would love 5-6 more pickled beans w/ the Foie 5/5!!!
Steak Tartare-3/5, too many I believe they were capers. Slightly on the salty side
Grilled Octopus3/5, lacked the final overwhelming bang at the end
Squash Fritti-cool plating, interesting combo, almost too sweet.
Spicy Chicken Rillettes 2/5, Not sure if it was the gorgonzola but dish was very salty.
I question 46$ for steak and french fries... Steak was chewy and tough..
Service was great, atmosphere was enjoyable. Nice place! Congrats!
Ended up choosing this place for my wedding anniversary dinner, and could not have been happier. The ambiance was just the right amount of casual coupled with "fancy", and the food was amazing to say the least. Definitely a place I'll be back to!
This place was a nice surprise.
The dishes were creative and not excessively priced for the ingredients and quality.
It has a relaxed fine dining vibe, but it was a little cramped.
Delicious food with really nice and cheerful, upbeat waiter. Decor was contemporary and welcoming. Good coffee. Enjoyed the overall experience. Nothing got in the way of my friend and I having a filling and tasty lunch while chatting about things and catching up.
Great experience at The Vandal. Intimate, well-lit, beautiful space. Prompt service. Brunch menu is lovely, with a craveable catalog of sweet and savory selections, in addition to well-curated cocktail and coffee offerings. Ordered the strawberry and rhubarb French toast, chicken sandwich with fries, and sorrel lemon bar. No reservations per brunch, so keep in mind that there may be a minimal wait. Looking forward to trying their Bloody Mary next time.
This is the best food in Pittsburgh. Joey builds complex flavors and textures in all of his dishes with intention to create a cohesive dining experience - including deserts and cocktails!
It's hip. Small, trendy cafe style restaurant on Butler Street in Lawrenceville. It's a cool vibe and even better food. The menu is small both in size and food options. Everything looks and is delicious. Tried the yogurt & granola and the fried chicken sandwich. The portions were perfect size and tasted very fresh. Get there early because it fills up quick. The waiters could be faster turning tables over. We finished pretty quick but waited about 10 mins before we got the check. Time is money.

Re-review !
Recently ordered takeout AND THEY DID NOT DISAPPOINT. The prices and portion were awesome and the taste and flavor were amazing. Happy I went back and the staff working was so nice, they put in a free desert for us. Highly recommend the burgers and their salads. Definitely will go back, it was a great experience for takeout (check their online menu which is updated frequently you wont get bored)!

Small and cozy place, nice atmosphere. Menu items are hit or miss, want to go back to try more dishes though.
