My wife and I have been here several times and each time the food has been excellent.
We just went for a sushi night out and I ordered a tempura style squid for an appetizer. The squid was cooked perfect, not at all chewy. I would have to say it was tied for first place.
The wait staff is also very good. Attentive, but not overly so.
I would recommend this place to others and will definitely be back. Give it a try !!
Sushi Tomo has excellent food. I order the sushi often.
It is excellent. My wife has eaten nearly all of the items on the menu, and has never been disappointed. The service is always fast and cheerful. Five stars for Sushi Tomo!
Great place, great staff, quality sushi chefs, highly recommend
I have never been disappointed with a meal here. The sushi is my main reason for going but their menu has so much more to offer. The staff is super nice as well.
I'm just sorry it took 17 years of being in Pittsburgh before I ate here. Delicious food, friendly staff, and affordable. Quality food without breaking the bank. Forget those buffets and try out this great place!
Best sushi place in Pittsburgh!!! I've been coming here for at least 10 years and never been disappointed. Always fresh and delicious!
This is some of the best amazing chicken(white meat general tso's) and fried rice you will ever eat. Try it- we couldn't believe how good it was.
This is my Ultimate favorite place for Sushi. Staff is awesome. The food is amazing. Love love love. I drive from Munhall all the time. You have to visit. I enjoy squid salad & dinosaur role. But the ginger dressing for salad is to die for.
Freshest sushi in all of pittsburgh! Great staff and menu offerings.
Easily the best sushi I’ve had in a long time. Don’t listen to others bitch about stupid things like parking.
Wow; just arrived in Pittsburgh and staying in the Hampton Inn on McKnight. Looked around for a Chinese restaurant and saw Tomo just down the street, and I am SO glad I went. I arrived Sunday night at 9 (they close at 9:30) so I carried out, and it was AMAZING! THE best Chinese food I've had. I ordered Cashew Chicken, spicy. The chicken was tender white meat; squash & mushrooms & cashews were superb. The eggroll had a very unique, very pleasant taste. Too bad I've been dieting; I could have eaten a ton of this! The portion was huge; I'm saving over half of it in the hotel room fridge. If you are in the area I'd definitely go to Tomo Sushi. I'm not a Sushi or Japanese food fan but I can attest that the Chinese here was off the charts!
Best place around for sushi ... absolutely amazing!
We went on a whim at 830 pm and ordered a Boat for two. Prompt service and food came quickly! Kevin was a great server. We will be back!

I love this place! Great atmosphere, and service, not to mention the beautiful display of food art I had tonight...so I took a pic to share!
Great service and awesome sushi!!! There are also many beverages to choose from and the ambiance inside is enjoyable.
Was absolutely amazing sushi was great! And Kevin was a wonderful server! Very helpful and suggestive.
First time here and it was amazing. We ordered Crab Ragoons, Spicy Tuna rolls, Nigiri, Shrimp/Beef teriyaki, and match ice cream. Food was 10/10 and the service was quick. Can't wait to come back and try more!
Came here for a dinner date and the food was fantastic. The waitress was also super friendly and gave us some wonderful recommendations. I got the chicken bento box and he got the spicy ramen. The restaurant was very clean and I would recommend this place to anyone who has a taste for some Japanese food.
We thought the service was exemplary. The sushi that we had was fantastic, very well presented. We also had some crab rangoons which I thought were a little expensive for the amount that were served but, delicious. Another thing that we ordered was a small bowl of noodles. They were very good.
One other thing about the restaurant was that we ordered tea and it was not very hot. This is the first time we were in this restaurant and we will definitely return. Plenty of parking in an open.
I was meaning to write this review back in August but I became very busy and forgot.
Each and every time my boyfriend and I have ordered from Sushi Tomo the food as been nothing short of excellent. Back in August it was our anniversary and I ordered sushi online and mentioned it was our anniversary. They went above and beyond with the sushi and even added an adorable little add-on of what I believe to be the filling of spicy tuna in the shape of a cute animal, and congratulated us. I was completely won over at that point.
We can’t wait for our next visit!
Food and service was amazing! I highly recommend the sushi
Had the Alaska roll. The mushroom roll the avocado roll and the tofu salad. The Alaska roll was okay, mushroom roll was kind of dry and tasteless, avocado roll was good. The tofu salad sat in dressing which I think was just soy sauce. The tofu was cooked great. But the sauce was lacking. I looked at some of the other meals the people are having and they looked pretty good. I think I may have ordered wrong . The service was good.
This is my favorite restaurant!! My go-to anytime someone asks where I want to go! I LOVE their sushi rolls and ginger salad!!! My favorite roll is the Volcano Roll!! Always friendly staff. I have been there dozens of times and never had a single reason to be unhappy.
I got the fried dumplings, edamame app (spicy garlic), a spicy shrimp roll and a Philly roll with fresh salmon (+$1). Everything was excellent. I will say I think the steamed dumplings are better. Also the fresh salmon with the Philly roll is much better than the smoked salmon that usually comes in it. Definitely would recommend sushi tomo!
I enjoyed the food very much and the customer service was amazing! More affordable than other Asian places near by, and more private and quiet too. protein in the dishes was a smaller portion than I was expecting but I did not leave hungry. Best Sushi I have ever had in Pittsburgh. I wish they had salt and pepper on the table and could fix the pot holes in the parking lot.
Love this place! Super chill atmosphere, food is amazing, the menu has a lot of options without being overwhelming, and staff is friendly and quick!
I got the Tonkotsu Ramen and it was so delicious. Everything was cooked just right, especially the soft boiled egg, and the broth was amazing. We also ordered sushi: a Tomo Roll, a Dragon Roll, a Philly Roll, and 2 pieces of Tamago Nigiri. Everything was absolutely fantastic! I particularly like their eel sauce. I asked my server for a recommendation for some sake and she pointed me to the Momokawa sake. It was smooth and delicious, and had a really pleasant honey finish. So glad she suggested it!
I highly recommend Sushi Tomo!
Daughter loves ramen 🍜 so we came here. It was very good. I'm not the ramen expert, but our daughter is and she gave it great reviews. She recommends the spicy miso. We also had some sushi, crab rangoon, egg rolls, general tsos, and some kind of wasabi dumplings. Everything was very good.
Sushi Tomo restaurant serves mostly Japanese foods and some Chinese foods. Prices are reasonable. During my visit, two employees promptly and kindly served my husband and me. We ordered the Korean vegetable pancake, tuna tataki, shrimp bento box, and chicken katsu. My husband and I enjoyed these foods so much that we plan to buy more meals here in the future.
My kid loves sushi so we stopped by. Ready good and reasonable prices
Perfect food. The scallop was a little bit gummy and didn't seem fresh, but everything else 5 star. Will definitely be back again.
Excellent sushi rolls with interesting and worthwhile specials. Service was speedy and exceptionally kind. The general tsos is good and the amazing chicken stands up to its name. Will be back !
Pretty good sushi spot in the North Hills! There aren't too many good options for Asian food near Ross Park, so this is a good choice! I tried the cold sesame noodles, haru maki, Tomo roll, and tuna roll.
When I first tried the cold sesame noodles, I was a little disappointed. The sauce was too runny in my opinion, and it had a sauce that was heavy on the salt/soy sauce. I prefer cold noodles with a sauce that is thicker and similar to tahini. However, as I ate it more, I began enjoying it more! The portion is very fair and the sauce is not bad, either. 3.6/5
Haru maki is very similar to a spring roll. I loved it! It was full of vegetables and had a light sweetness to it. There was a perfect balance of crunchy on the outside and smooth, delicate vegetables on the inside. The sauce it was served with is also excellent (it's quite sweet but I like it that way)! 4.5/5 just because the portion is somewhat small.
The Tomo roll is very tasty! The eel on top is not soggy; rather, it is lightly sweet and flavorful. Sauce has a nice sweet flavor. The avocado is also quite fresh. The shrimp tempura on the inside with crunchy and well made all around. It's a bit expensive, but still fair. 4.5/5. This is my first time trying plain tuna sushi. I thought it wasn't very flavorful at first, but it is quite good when dipped in soy sauce. The roll is well made and the fish is fresh. Portion for the price is okay. 4/5.
Overall, this is a nice place to get sushi in the North Hills. Their special rolls are exciting and flavorful. The haru maki is great if you love spring rolls, and I've heard the egg rolls are amazing as well. May come back to try the Chinese dishes like General Tsos!
The sushi was very fresh. The staff were friendly. The prices are fair for the quality and presentation of the food. Parking was fine. A few things for me are I prefer hand rolls with pieces of tuna and salmon in them with a combination sauce. But the hand rolls here are ground. I never liked the ground version but that is subjective. Nice atmosphere but it is getting worn in some areas
Great food, similar feel to other sushi places, and we had a really nice waitress. My GF is excited to go back soon we both liked it
