We'd never been there for hibachi and only dined there once for sushi (not very impressive). Friends got a group together and we were very impressed with the service and the food at the hibachi. We hadn't had hibachi in almost a year, but we do enjoy it and this was delicious. A TON of food (as usual with hibachi) and the sushi roll we got was better than we remembered the sushi being last time. We're definitely going to have to give it a try again for sushi.
Coming from out of town this was a great choice. The servings are huge and the food is delicious. Comparable to our favorite hibachi place at home!
Great hibachi. Sushi is good but not my favorite in the Pittsburgh area. The portions are huge and you definitely get what you pay for. Consistently good hibachi meals here!
LOVE IT!. I don't go here for the sushi. I go for the Hibachi. The portions are HUGE, so that I've lunch for the next day, which is awesome. I saw what some people said about the service. Honestly, the service at the Robinson location is only so-so, but the Hibachi chefs are good. The Waterworks location has better staff all around, but the Robinson one is good enough & the quality of food is never lacking. And the "shrimp sauce" is to die for!
Everytime I eat at Ichiban I have good quality food. The sushi is very good even though it is very Americanized (loaded with eel sauce and spicy mayo). Service is always good and the chefs are for the most part consistent.
Excellent. The food here is fresh, well prepared and decent portion sizes! Definately one of the better Japanese Steak houses in the area!!
Love this place! Yummy shrimp sauce is great! Food is fantastic. Seating for hibachi is weird as you are practically sitting in strangers' laps. However the food far exceeds any annoyance that comes your way.
Ichiban has the best Hibachi and sushi!! I agree with the comment that says lunch is better. At night the hostesses and servers are not the least bit pleasant. Other than that, no complaints!
LUNCH not dinner. Less packed, much nicer environment AND staff for lunch menu. Even the usually unpleasant manager is pleasant and more willing to solve an issue during the day. Hosts always give you a booth if there are booths open. I've gone to dining multiple times for dinner and the hosts put menus down on the closest table to them and walk away without saying a word. Dinner is always packed, usually a wait. Staff always seems annoyed that you are there and less friendly for dinner. Cheaper and better service for lunch.
Very good but small. The food is very good but it has smaller portions. It has really good entertainment. Also high prices.
The Robinson location has the best spicy tuna ever! Try the dinosaur egg, as they also have the best one I have ever tasted! Service can be slow, but I can deal with it, because the food is great!
Decent but there's better places.
Delicious!. Best sushi, chefs and hibachi meals!
Good sushi. Drove over to Ichiban Friday for some sushi. Very busy, yet efficiently managed. We started with the fried calamari appetizer followed by the 16 piece sushi with two rolls. The calamari was prepared with a light breading accompanied by a mild dipping sauce which was very good. The sushi was very fresh, amply portioned atop expertly prepared rice. Fresh is the best description. We were very pleased and look forward to returning.
Surroundings: A comfortable
Service: A Timely and effecient even though they were very busy.
Food: A+ Fresh delicious
Value: A Priced where it should be.
Maybe next time we will be patient enough to wait for an opening at a hibachi table.
The BEST sushi bar in Pittsburgh. Hands down the best sushi bar in Pittsburgh. Gavin, the head chef, is an artist, great host...but all of their sushi chefs are equally great. Their fish is the freshest in the Burgh (that is unless there is a place that catches, and kills on site). Excellent quality, and friendly service. I HIGHLY recommend this place. My Fiancee and I go there every Saturday.

Family-friendly Sushi. Most people think of Ichiban as a Hibachi restaurant and order sushi as an appetizer. My family and I go there for the sushi. They have a huge assortment of rolls and have great service. They have super lunch specials as well.
Delicious teppanyaki food tucked in a strip mall. We missed this place at first-located next to a Marshall's. The Asian cocktails were good (a little on the syrupy side). We had a green dragon roll which was rich and spicy. The grillside service was entertaining. The only annoyance was the frequent loud flashy lights and blaring birthday music in Asian accents.
I love this place, of course! We come here every year for my birthday, and we are never disappointed.
Food is phenomenal
Staff attentive
And the vibe is great
If you order hibachi u get dinner AND a show
Lovely lovely place, I love the vibe, the decoration, the atmosphere everything. We had this when I had a bad allergeic in my throat because of the weather and the environment but dying for some sushi so yeah still try to eat.
The chicken teriyaki was very lovely, thick and have slight sweet and salty of teriyaki-ish into it, well seasoned and the chicken was grilled and flavorful.
We had salmon maki and a set of sashimi and man that sashimi is a handful for two little girls to consume ( we have to take home the tuna). The maki was pretty basic like everywhere else (we want a safe choice) and the sashimi was very good (another safe choice). The salmon was great, fresh and komochi nishin (just gg it) were the highlight for me. Back then I dont like them at all, but Ichiban did a very good job on this. I will definitely try it again.
Our server was very nice, and offer us and checked on us occasionally so it was a good experince but I'm still holding back 1 star because this one is for an outstanding restaurant imp. But Ichiban almost achieves my last star.
Great experience!
The portion size was unexpected. Definitely worth the cost.
Note that they try to sneak in 18% gratuities on your bill even for a party of 2.
Best sushi we have found locally. They season their rice unlike most places.
The hibachi is legit too.
Visited on a Friday without a reservation. We were seated in less than 10 minutes! Food was good! Service was good!
An old school hibachi experience with the theatrics that come along with it, our group had a lot of fun at Ichiban. They were accommodating of our group having a birthday cake we brought for someone and even lit candles and brought it out for us. The chef was very entertaining and the food was delicious! Nailed the cook on the steak, shrimp, and everything else. Very generous portions (I feel like most everyone brought home leftovers). We had a great time and left full and happy. The vibe definitely feels like a throwback, which to me is not a bad thing at all. Would definitely come back!
Awesome experience for my 30th birthday dinner. Our waitress Kendall provided great service, filet and lobster was amazing, great portions and felt very welcomed unlike Benihana. Definitely recommend. Will be back.
Excellent food great consistency and really nice staff!! Sushi is boooomb
Excellent Japanese style restaurant! The sushi rolls are great, very elaborate with various sauces and exotic ingredients. I loved the Crazy Dragon and the Spicy Salmon roll they are amazing. The place itself is a bit old but the food is worth it! Service was attentive and prices are fair.
Food was delicious. I was really full 🌝.
Our hibachi cook Green (Sp) was amazing!! He was very entertaining, and talked to everyone at the table. Only thing upsetting, we were on our way to the Steelers game & we had so much leftovers but no where "safe" to keep it.
Food was fantastic as usual. Second time at this particular establishment. Went on mothers day and though the hibachi tables were packed and the wait for one was long. We opted for dining area due to needing to put my 4 months car seat in a booth seat. Was seated right away and service was fast and prompt. There is always enough food for 2 to 3 whole meals. Definitely worth the price. The food is always fantastic! Highly recommend
A very popular restaurant, we had to sit in the unceremonious overflow dining room (no visuals of chefs cutting and tossing food in the air to the awaiting mouths of hungrily participating patrons), only the distant ringing of metal-edged cooking implements. Remember this when making reservations (highly recommend), should you wish to watch the spectacle of your food being prepared, or that of your companions.
I had the filet mignon and scallops with shrimp on a bed of rice, which was excellent. While at this writing I cannot recall my friends' dishes, I can recall their comments: "delicious...so full... fantastic...LOVED it." My friends facial expressions matched their commentary!
One may satisfy cravings for many different dishes; from sushi to tempura; steak and varied meats, Ichiban has it all.
Food: very good to excellent.
Service: excellent.
Cleanliness: excellent.
Price: my dish (filet mignon, scallops and shrimp) was the most expensive on the menu at $35; other dishes ranged from $15-$25. If course, additions add to the bill.
Would I return? ABSOLUTELY!
Remember: if you want to sit next to an Hibachi chef you MUST make reservations.
Had a good time met some good people from LA, they came to Pittsburgh for the game on Sunday and to just tour the city! The chef was funny and amazing and the food was perfect!
My all time favorite hibachi. I’ve never had a bad experience! Huge portions and excellent flavor!
Really liked my server, she was super friendly and helpful. Food was amazing. I wish I could remember her name. She complimented my romper!
