me and my dad and sister love dannys cause of the hogies and has good pizza too and every time we come to pittsburgh we always go to dannys to get hogies
These are very good italian hoagies ... some of the best around, but they are not so good to justify $15. The last time I was there, I ordered two italian hoagies ... it was $30. That's getting a bit out of hand. We've been going to Danny's for years, but I think we'll look around next time.
My First Visit Impression. I drive past this place everyday. Today I was in the mood to try a new place, and get a hoagie from somewhere. I called ahead and ordered a whole Italian hoagie. (I picked this based on the reviews from different sites). Just from the parking lot you get some great smells of pizza and hoagies. I walk in and I can see my hoagie sitting there with melted cheese on it. They waited until I arrived before they start to put the sandwich together. This is GREAT in preventing it from getting soggy. Well worth the 2 minute wait for them to finish. The gentleman was nice and polite, hard to understand, but a nice fellow. The bag was a bit heavy. A good sign that this thing would fill me up. I only live 5 minutes away, so when I got home I wanted to see what the hype was about.
First impressions were good. Easily could tell the bread is homemade. Toasted perfectly, and the bread didn't "crumble" when you bit into it. A little chewy and very, tasty bread. The melted cheese on the bread totally makes it. The cheese melts along the side of the bread, and perfect consistency. The hoagie had a bit of a bite to it. I started to sweat a bit eating it. It's not spicy but the onions and meat flavorings had some kick, which is what an italian hoagie should be.
The hoagie is not drop dead fantastic, but definitely convinced me to visit again and try more of what they have to offer.
I have a big appetite, and tend to eat fast, and I got about 75% done before I had to stop. Waited about 15 minutes and was anxious to finish it.
If you are one of the unlucky people who have to drive on Route 51 for your daily commute, brighten you drive a bit and stop by this place. Word of advice, the hoagie is much better when you eat it as soon as you get it.
This place was very good. It's small, didn't have a restroom and a little noisy since the kitchen is right there behind the counter but the food is excellent. We were going to get wings but they take 50 minutes because they're baked not fried so we just got a pepperoni pizza. We waited and took it home, only took about 20 mins to be made and the wait was worth it. The crust was homemade not frozen, the sauce and cheese were perfectly balanced and it tasted amazing. I've heard their subs are good too so will definitely be going back again.
Great Pizza, made fresh, crust is cooked crispy. the quality of the toppings is run of the mill for normal city-pizza (this isn't some uppity hand crafted style place). The size vs. cost comparison is above average. I was very glad I tried Danny's and will be visiting again soon.
The best Italian hoagies in the South Hills. The pizza is also good, particularly the sauce (better than any of the chain pizza shops), but the four star rating is based on the hoagies
One of the best Italian hoagies!!! The only thing that's a minus is you can't sit and eat here. It's for take-out only. However, well worth an Italian hoagie!!!
Great place. Friendly folks and the food is delicious. Tried their steak and cheese and chicken parm hoagies...excellent!!! Italian Hoagie is fantastic too.
The food's always great, but they make your food with love ... and that takes a little time. If you're going to be in a hurry, call ahead and pick it up.
Best hoagie I ever had... it takes about 10 min for them to make it, & they load it up...they been their for over 40 yrs ..I think that's what the guy said..I will stop their again ony travels
When I was a little girl our family Friday night tradition was Danny's for HOAGIES and a visit to Grandmas house. Now that I am 40+ and far away from Pgh, I never travel home without making a visit to Danny's a required stop - even my southern born husband is a fan now!
Best Hoagies in Pittsburgh. The place is a little divey, but Steak or Italian and you won't be disappointed.
I go her often for our hoagies... the best I've found. Love them
My wife grew up near Pittsburgh. Whenever we visit the in-laws, a visit to Danny's is a requirement. They've mentioned to us that they'll ship hoagies anywhere in the US.
I grew up with Danny's but moved to NC. Everytime I come home to visit my husband and kids (both born in NC) have to have Danny's . I've also heard that Michael Keaton has them shipped to CA. 😜
