Was suggested to go there by my friend I was meeting for dinner. Apparently they had recently changed the menu to be more sushi forward which was fine with me but not as much for my dining companion. The food was ok but nothing special. It did throw me a bit to have sushi with lettuce in it. I definitely prefer cucumber as the green to be in sushi. While it fine for dinner they are unfortunately situated in sq hill between many other Asian options that I’d prefer.
Lived on the West Coast for 10 years and have lived in Pittsburgh about 2 1/2 years. Was hard finding great sushi that was fresh and not bland until I stumbled across this restaurant. I have gone back a few times and love the the spicy cold noodles and various sushi options. Pricing is very reasonable too!
We ordered the Sukiyaki with shrimp and scallops. Excellent choice! The miso soup was perfect! Fresh vegetables!
Ferfect meal and great service!
We will definitely go back!
The service was very polite and attentive once we ordered but was a little slow to start because they were very busy. But have patience because the food is great!!! Very casual setting that mostly serves students but it's worth the trip, the sushi chef is amazing and will come out and talk to you if you have questions. Try the mango shrimp sushi it is delicious and something you can't find anywhere else!
* they also have hot foods and mochi!
We're always looking for new sushi places to try and this place was great. We arrived around 6 on a Friday night and were the only in house diners for about 10 minutes. They seem to get a ton of to-go orders. We ordered the Spicy Girl Roll, Queen Roll, Philly Roll, snd Scallop Roll. All were fresh and tasty but our favorite was the Queen with spicy crab and mango. We also shared the Tempura dinner, which was super crispy with a ton of veggies and 3 shrimp and served with some of the best rice we've ever eaten. The place quickly filled to capacity before we left. If you love fresh sushi, its a must ty.
Our new favorite sushi place!! When we arrived the staff members were all very sweet, and our server was so patient with me. This is a plus because I can never make up my mind! Especially when there are this many great options to choose from. We got the sashimi platter deluxe, the pretty roll and my favorite, the mango roll. All of the fish was very fresh and presented beautifully. Not to mention the amazing value! This whole plate was around $60. Some places would charge that much for the sashimi alone! We will definitely be in again! - wellfedartist.net
Stopped in for a quick bite to eat and it was very good. The spicy cold noodles were delicious and got spicier as I went. The sushi was all fresh and delicious. The spicy rolls were not that spicy but still good
The food was pretty good. I would eat here again.
The three things I didn't like, my water was room temperature, the entire bowl of rice was stuck together, and there was no air conditioner.
My favorite day-to-day sushi go to! The fish is always fresh, the prices are reasonable, and the service is always wonderful. They have both great nigiri and simple rolls (the fish quality is always top notch) and delicious big rolls too! Enjoy!
I got some sushi takeout and was surprised by how much I liked the specialty veg roll. I like that you can order online and pay when you get there. I don't love that you can't put in an order until they've opened. Being able to order in advance would be quite nice and have less disruption to your day. One note, I ordered first thing when they opened. The confirmation said it would be ready in 40 minutes, but they messaged it was ready after only 13 minutes. If you're planning based on the time they give you, just beware it may mean you have to change up your plans.
We have now eaten here at least a dozen time and have received delivery as well. The food is consistently very good (the sashimi is fantastic (salmon and abura sokomutsu are divine), as well as their rolls), and the prices are very reasonable. Plum used to be our go-to sushi spot, and now this has become our favorite. Service is always incredibly quick and everyone there is so helpful and pleasant! We've tried most items on the menu and haven't found anything that we wouldn't try again!
I typically order from here and I have yet to find a place that delivers as well as Diners 2+1. I do wish they had a slightly wider selection, but given the good price and quality of their food, they’re still number 1 for sushi.
We ordered out on Saturday night around 7. I was told my order would be ready for pickup at 7:50. I got there and it was busy and I had to wait till 8:20 before my food was actually ready. The food was very good though.
My family discovered Diners 2+1 about a six months ago. We enjoy eating sushi there at least once per week. Sometimes twice! All of our experiences have been very positive with the food and staff. We're so very happy they are in the neighborhood and doing so well! It is one of our two go-to restaurants.
Pork cutlet curry with scallops hand roll. Definitely recommend hand roll. Sushi rice is on point with the sourness. The cutlet might need more salt but the outside is crunchy. Curry taste good as well.
The interior is pretty bare bones right now, but the food is legit. Less of a traditional sushiya and a more American style sushi restaurant with lots of different special rolls. The sushi was fresh and tempura shrimp was fresh fried.
The owner suggested the spicy cold noodles appetizer: it was a really tasty summer treat. Cold buckwheat soba noodles tossed in a spicy sauce served with cucumbers.
Good for the price and a nice addition to Squirrel Hill.
Great sushi and awesome owner. He treated us really nice when we came in as a large family party of 7. If you haven’t tried it I HIGHLY recommend the squid karaage. Basically deep fried baby squid on a stick. Can’t go wrong!
