The meal was great, we had a menu for 2-3 people, with two people, we had a problem eating everything. The portion was big, which is good. The menu was a bit confusing, where the volume of beers is not indicated, you don't even know if it's a canned or draft beer. After asking about the type of beef (there are a total of 15 dishes on offer), the staff did not know which part of the cow the meat was from.
So I've been going to Podnahs for years... like even back when they were on Prescott between NE 14th and 15th... so perhaps I'm bias when I say they are the best BBQ in Portland, bar none! The ribs are my favorite, it's hard for me to try other things when I'm there because I always want the smokey ribs! Collard greens, green chile mac n cheese, corn bread all of it so good! Now the "texas caviar", which is like a vinegar based black eyed pea salad isn't for everyone, but I like that too! And then the banana pudding.....omg..like mom used to make!
Absolutely my favorite BBQ in the area - possibly the entire PNW. I won’t waste time listing menu items - it’s all good. They also take great care of you if you’re ordering takeout. Thanks Podnah’s, see y’all again soon!
I grew up in the town that hosts the international BBQ festival every year so I'm really picky with my BBQ. I am partial to Carolina style, Texas style, and of course Kentucky style since that's what I ate growing up. This place is Carolina style and it's really good. The meat was incredibly tender, the fat off the brisket melts in your mouth, ribs fell off the bone, smoked beautifully, the dry rub was delicious and the sausage snapped back at you. The sauces are great too and the baked beans were amazing. The green chili mac was ok. Certainly not worth paying an extra two bucks for. Not very cheesy, pretty watery. The cornbread was alright, I personally prefer a sweeter cornbread, I also think that a meal which says it feeds 2-3 people should have more than one slice of cornbread. It's also odd for pickles, onion, and bread not to be included with the meal. I've never gotten a meal that included BBQ pork that did not also include these things. But I digress, I still feel like $36 for the pit boss was reasonable. Overall, my husband and I enjoyed it! They clearly know how to handle their meats!
They claim to be authentic Texas BBQ? Well, I have eaten 50 years worth of Texas BBQ and they live up to the claim with their brisket and beef ribs. The bbq sauce was a bit on the "fake smoked" side, but it wasn't needed. Delicious and tasty memories of home.
Solid place. The food was good, the atmosphere was good, and there was rave reviews. It's not my all-time favorite BBQ in Portland, but no complaints from me. Will definitely be back.
I should have taken photos but was talking and forgot but the brisket was pretty darn good! Side of baked beans and Cole slaw with a slice of cornbread! Two nice size slices of brisket. I thought I would want more when I saw the plate but I am sufficiently stuffed! Should I get the banana pudding?? Probably not (but I think I will) 😎😋
Best BBQ I have had outside of Texas. Got Pit Boss to share. Brisket was tender and moist, ribs were great, pulled pork was good and the sausage was very good. The best part we’re the sides; Mac and Cheese was well made, bbq beans was delicious and the black eyed peas salad was excellent!
I haven't been to Podnah's in 10 years. (I moved away).I'm glad they are still here. This has been a staple BBQ place for Portland forever.
Really good BBQ. Brisket, ribs, sausage all good stuff. Also really good sides - collard greens and beans.
I did not like the automatic 18% "Gratuity" charge on all orders. I still believe that is my decision. I do typically tip 20% for good service. But making this a automatic charge is a mistake. I most likely will not return.
Very good place, the brisket was really good, nice staff and good atmosphere.!
Didn’t plan to come here but ended up here when it was raining too much for the outdoor seating next door. Apparently on Monday they only do tacos rather than the normal bbq, but we really enjoyed our dinner! Would highly recommend the brisket nachos and the puffy taco. We also got an al pastor taco, which I personally would NOT recommend, as I really didn’t like the sauce on it. Prices were great and we ended up spending way less than we’d planned for dinner!
A classic BBQ spot with all the fixin’s. The brisket and pork ribs are my favorite but if you want to do it right grab the Pit Boss plate and get a well rounded taster off the meats they offer. Their Mac n cheese is a solid side choice, I usually get that and the potato salad but on a hot day the coleslaw is one that I opt for. Plenty of indoor seating with a covered patio for outdoor preferences. They also slay a margarita.
