Authentic Japanese sushi is top notch, sashimi very fresh and yummy, from blue fin tuna, black cods, king salmons to sea urchins. We recommend volcano and lobster rolls. The atmosphere is cozy, the staff is friendly & fast. My family always love authentic Japanese sushi and avoid Chinese-owned fake ones, and Yama is on top.

The best sushi we have had in months. Scott gave us a great meal. Not only that he has a wonderful sense of humor and made the evening special. We highly recommend an Omakase night.

It was clear on my first visit that I'd be back again. The waitress even recognized my date and me. She even cleaned our chopsticks we brought. In comparison to Japan, they come pretty close to a number of their menu items. The pan fried gyoza is delicious along with the sunset roll. Highly recommend trying it for yourself.

I found Yama Sushi in Portland by happenstance. I have enjoyed every moment of it here! The sushi is flavorful and those who prepare it certainly take care and have an attention to detail I appreciate. The next time I am in Portland I will certainly come back!

A friend asked to meet there; I usually only eat sushi at Bamboo (I know!) but thought I'd give it a shot. It was lovely! I had the fish soup and my partner had the sizzling beef. My mom has sizzling veggies. I wish I hadn't been full at the end because I really wanted to try the foie gras 🤤 It's a great place if some of you want sushi and some want cooked food.

Really recommend the Saki Bomb- a bit of spice, but absolutely delicious. On another note, we watched a family about to leave after paying for their food and our waitress came out with an Orange dessert for the kids. It was beautifully decorated and looked tasty. The service here goes above and beyond to make sure that your, your family and friends have a wonderful time at their restaurant. I will certainly return here the next time I’m in Portland.

Up front: I'm not from Portland, but I am extremely familiar with the sushi omakase scene in Seattle. This tasted familiar! We had a great time. I typically go for nigiri and chef's choice cuts, but the options for typical ready-to-serve rolls were delicious. We were treated well and even though we didn't sit at the bar they had a fantastic toro selection alongside some classic market selections. What I presume to be the owner came out and talked with us and it was very humbling! It is very scenically located next to a park and the neighborhood seemed so nice. We would definitely come back for another visit. Only giving it 4 stars because I feel like I'm cheating on our favorite sushi chef haha.

Great sake selection, available with flights as well for those who can't choose. Interesting sushi selection and specials. I got a sample of different salmon sashimi (sockeye, steelhead, and one other I forget). It was interesting variety. Also the flaming Jack roll was really fun. It arrived on fire, adding that last little singe to the outside.

Both the sushi and the yakisoba were delicious. The staff was friendly and welcoming. It was exactly what we needed after a long day of exploring Portland.

Yama was a nice spot to grab some sushi after walking around the area. Each dish we got, including the sake, was definitely good however nothing was a standout for us particularly for the prices. Would come back if I was in the area craving sushi, but wouldn't go out of my way to return.

The sushi was absolutely divine! The tuna was like butter! The Mardi Gras roll was such a treat with gorgeous flavors. And to end it off the sushi chef surprised my daughter with an adorable orange dragon. An all around fantastic lunch!

Fresh and high quality fish & sweet sushi rice. Their menu is extensive so be prepare to take a few minutes to look through the menu as they have one for the rolls with pictures, a regular menu showing appetizers and sushi bar eats, and another for sake and wine. It is a bit overwhelming if you do not have a particular go to when it comes to sushi. For me, my go to was the chirashi bowl. It was presented really well but the only annoying part was because they condensed it in a very small bowl, I had a difficult time trying to eat the fish and the rice at the same time. I think this is due to presentation. It wasn't a problem as I just removed most of the extra garnishes, ginger and wasabi on a separate plate. It was a bit pricier for what I got when I can go to Mirakutei and get a bigger bowl with larger sashimi cuts at a lower cost. However it was still pretty good. My boyfriend got the dragon roll (right) and the yama roll (left) and it was packed with so much flavor. Service was very friendly & we loved the ambiance. This is about the third time we've been here and we have always enjoyed it. The reason for the missing star is how some items can be over priced BUT the quality is up there so it makes it worth it.

Loved eating here! Had the Curry Tonkatsu, Mardi Gras sushi roll, Wakame salad and the Chicken Kara-Age. All of it was ready minutes after we ordered and made to perfection! The staff were so nice and attentive! Can't wait to go back!
