This is my favorite dim sum place. They have easy parking near Walmart. The place is big and bright. Waits are short except on the weekends and holidays. Good selection and prep of food.

This big cafeteria like restaurant with red and white globe light fixtures serves some excellent Chinese food. I thought the Sizzling Beef with a Black Pepper Sauce was exceptional. The beef was so tender, the mushrooms were not over cooked and the sauce was spicy and peppery. Our dim sum appetizers were good also. I am excited to return and try the dim sum lunch.

As a recent transplant to Portland, i have been craving good Chinese food. Despite being a foodie town, Chinese food is typically bland and stale here. Until....I was introduced to HK Cafe. It is the best Chinese food in Portland. Hands down!!!!!

Wow, the place is busy.
Large selection of dimsum bun. Ordered the following: beef balls, mini egg tarts, chicken feet, deep fried taro pastry, shrimp rice roll were all good.
The bad items - steamed BBQ bun.
Overall good dimsum, but it cannot be compared to Vancouver / Richmond dimsum.

Best #shumai on the Eastside of town. Portions are generous. If you plan on dining for dim sum, early mornings or later afternoons are your best bet to avoid long lines.

Took my my wife and parents for a late lunch early dinner for My wife's birthday. We were able to get a table straight off. The place is pretty big banquet style seating with plenty of tables.
Our table was a little dirty as was the rest of the restaurant.
Soon after we were seated the dim sum started to arrive a pretty wide variety was available most of which I have no idea what they were called. Our unanimous decision was the ground pork and shrimp shumai was the best. After eating several servings of dim sum we orderd from the menu, one we had to ask for a couple times. I ordered the clams with black bean sauce and soy sauce noodles. The clams were pretty good however the soy sauce noodles were the shining star. A very simple dish that was executed very well.
All in all we will return.

Incredibly large selection of food. It never stops comin! And it's all delicious. The place was packed because it was Chinese New Year, which was a surprise to us but we were all entertained by the dragon dance, drummer, and kids throwing lettuce in the air. Who can beat that?

Husband and I tried H.K. Cafe today for lunch. I admit we were very lost for the first few minutes but the waitress showed us what dim sum was and how to order it. The food was very good and to much food the lady with the cart was at your table constantly it was a bit annoying at times no peace to eat your food. I will return defaintly.

The Sum Of This Restaurant Is Not Dim!. We try to limit our excursions to Dim Sum restaurants due to our general lack of discipline for all things tasty that are quickly served and easy to pop in your mouth. It is kind of like hanging near the buffet table, with the added perk that they bring you the food on a continous basis. But today, with relatives in tow, we headed down the 205 to the HK Cafe, based in large part upon the positive buzz posted on Urbanspoon. Wise move, as they are the Top Dog of Dim Sum in the area, with a paw on the throat of Wongs and Ocean Fresh.

The first sign of a good dim sum restaurant is that it is crowded and bustling with rapid moving carts. The next good sign is that just about all the many diner's appeared to be of Asian descent, with very few old caucasians like yours truly. The third good sign was the prompt and friendly service of the HK Cafe. I had barely settled in my seat, clutching my napkin and chop sticks, and sipping the offered hot tea, when the dim sum offerings began from the maidens of the carts. Steamed shrimp dumplings...we'll take 2 orders! A delicious opening. Pork and shrimp dumpling...dense, tasty, and enhanced by the hot Chinese mustard. Shrimp and Chive dumpling...again 2 orders because they are so good. The 2 orders of salt and pepper calamari were enjoyed by all, even if a bit heavy handed on the salt component...a common occurrence most places have with this dish. Crispy seafood wontons were excellent on the second batch, hot, crispy, and moist in the center. The first batch (lukewarm) was temperature challenged...a problem with foods that are not moved fast enough off the carts. Hot, crispy shrimp balls coated with crispy, shredded dim sum wrappers were done quite well and went fast. One great thing about HK Cafe, that I did not notice at Wongs was that they served some main meal items off the carts. We had sweet and sour pork (standardly good) and roasted duck with sauce (standardly yum). You can also order off the regular menu, and we got the "Chevrolet" Chinese dish of General Tso's chicken, which was made fresh and was quite good. The pork buns had more filling than many I have tasted and they were flavorable. They had a pastry style pork wrap that was not anyone's favorite, as it was oddly too sweet and left a pastry lard mouth feel on the finish. About this time, we were all getting so full that there was only room for sesame coated sweet mung bean balls. Not my cup of tea, but the order of three was consumed by the 3 others at the table with pronouncements of high quality. I stuck with a another cup of tea to assist with digestion and planned locomotion up and away from the table.

What a find! All this food for four people (with a bit of leftovers boxed up) came to about $68.00, plus tip. If you ate more sensibly than our pod, the price would certainly be an even better bargain. I would not hesitate to recommend HK Cafe to all dim sum explorers. Sample wisely and widely, and feel no fear or regret to decline any dish extended to you that doesn't move you or when you are simply too full to look at another dish. There will always be another excuse to come back and break your previous record!

Dim Sum? NOM NOM NOM!. AHHH Dim Sum, what can be said about bite sized dishes being pushed around on little silver carts? Its like a buffet without all of the annoying getting up! HAHA! The dim sum at the HK Cafe is fantastic and cheap! Every time I am in Portland I struggle to stay away from this place in order to try something new. The shrimp har gow, BBQ pork belly, various dumplings, egg cakes, and pork shui mai are to die for! Now for a couple of words to new "dim sum-ers": First of all, the ladies pushing the carts with press certain dishes on you. If you do not want them simply say no. You may have to say "no" more than once but they will eventually get it. Secondly, dim sum places are a perfect place to step out on a limb and try new things. Even if you don't know what something is, why not try it? Chances are if you do not like it, you will have only lost a dollar or two. That being said, the restaurant and bathrooms are usually very clean. I had heard from several of my Asian friends that if you are white (like this guy) they will sit you in the back. At first I thought it was just a joke, but alas, every time there was not more than one Asian in my group...we were marched to the back room with all of the other white people. Not a big deal to me, but its odd. Overall great food, great prices, and if you can stand up against a little pressure, great fun. Give em' a taste!

My boyfriend and I tried this place despite the bad reviews because someone I work with recommended it highly. I'm glad we did! We ordered the salt and pepper squid, bbq pork and the honey walnut shrimp for dinner and shared it. We both thought the food was great. The staff was friendly. We will be here again.

The dim sum is super tasty. A wide variety of dim sum options. They are very popular and yet the service is great and the food is served promptly. The staff is very friendly. HK is very valuable, there aren’t very many dim sum restaurants in Portland anymore, and this one is super superb!

The food is certainly plentiful and served quickly. We went here for a dim sum lunch on a Tuesday. The bill was $37 for two people and we had leftovers to take home. We weren't exactly sure how the bill was calculated. We think maybe it's least expensive if you just take the food off the carts that are circulating. Special orders from the kitchen at lunch seemed to cost more. We had roast pork, turnip cake, green beans, shrimp pork dumpling, a dish with tofu and tea.

This place usually gets super busy on the weekend but not too bad on weekdays. They have many selections for dim sum. Compare to other places around that area, the food is about the same.

This is a great spot for dim sum! The atmosphere was very lively, the selection was great, and everything we ordered was delicious. Portions are on the large size for dim sum, so be careful not to over-order. Or, just order everything that sounds good and take the leftovers home! Expect a wait on weekends during the lunch rush.

Great good. Authentic dim Sum experience with the carts that come to your table. The Thai tea was not a favorite.

The Dim Sum was really good. It took about 10 minutes to get a table, and it did take a while for the carts to make it over to us. I thought it was kind of expensive, for example, a serving of sticky rice was $6.50. Two of us had a reasonable selection of food for $66, seems like it would have been $40 just a few years ago. The place was packed.

Very good dim sum. Better than I had in Chicago China town and Houston. It took me 35 mins to be seated.

What a great opportunity to eat delicious dim sum with my family. Two of my favorite dim sum restaurants in Portland have closed and I'm grateful that my friend recommended this great place. Shrimp with sugar cane, steamef pork and cabbage, and all the rest that came by on the cart were hot, fresh and so what I was hoping for. Even the plum sesame balls where amazing (get several servings!). We waited about 40 minutes at 11:30 on a Sunday (party of 4) and were eating within minutes of being seated. I think we were lucky because where they sat us was on a main thoroughfare (bonus)! The cost was reasonable and we will for sure return soon! (Also, for the kids who aren't ready for dim sum, there's a Subway next door to get them fed while you wait) Thanks HK Cafe!!

Their dim sum is amazing. If you want an awesome Chinese dim sum experience, with delicious platters go here. One of my favorite spots to just come with the family is to fill our belly with warm tea and delicious dim sum.

The food is delicious. But be prepared you have to wait for a long time for your order. We waited for 45 minutes until our first dish came. There were so many people and the kitchen was always busy. The price is fair. Not too expensive. Recommend salt &pepper shrimp. The environment is clean and it's spacious.

I personally had not had dim sum since back in Austin in the early 2000s, my wife had never had dim sum like this. It was amazing! Even though it was very busy we were seated quickly and the staff was super friendly. The food was out of this world! This will become a regular stop for us when we go to Portland.
