Highly recommend the salmon nachos but tell them to hold the pickled jalapenos. This came out fast so ingredients were likely prepared ahead of time but still tasted amazing (especially the smoked salmon). Portion was large enough for 2 adults. There was live music during the Friday evening. It did seem like they were lacking a bit of servers during the Friday dinner rush hour. Music was too loud like most bars so not an ideal place for a conversation. Our server was friendly and took care of us whenever he found the time.

We were so excited to go try Backwoods after having their great barrel aged stout yesterday at Pine Street. Well, it was not in tap here. Not to worry, we still had some great beer. We started with a flight. I liked the S'more Golden Stout best and my husband liked the Ridge Run Stout so much he got a full glass. We were there for happy hour and shared the chicken sliders and chicken tenders (misnomer), each with tater tots. The tater tots were hot and crispy and I really liked the slider. The best part...we got two bottles of their barrel aged stout to take with us back to California.

Great place. It was super nice outside and we were able to grab table outside right away. Really interesting beers that surprised me. The Totchos were outstanding!

Great beer selection. Had to get a flight to sample as many as possible. Shared the salmon nachos. Very generous portion and very tasty

Swung by Backwoods after getting drenched by rain and snow on the walk over. It was definitely easy to warm up with the large, inviting space inside. Didn't try any of the food, but the menu was fairly standard american bar food. Beers were overall solid, but nothing stood out to me personally.

Went to a neighbouring restaurant that wasnā€™t able to seat us quickly because they were understaffed, so pivoted and went to Backwoods instead. The menu is simple and lots of fried foods. The spicy mango daiquiri was very good! Had the Twisted Caesar salad and it was tasty. The walnuts and cranberries were a nice addition but not as twisted as I expected. The others with me had a burger and the pretzel and chicken tenders. All tasty. The chicken tenders tasted like fried chicken rather than a typical chicken tender from most restaurants. My only complaint is that tater tots fee very processed rather than classic French fries. I realize theyā€™re both fried potatoes but fries just feel more elevated.

Food was really good, especially the garlic tots and the pretzel. Beer flight was so so- pecan pie porter was the highlight. My wife had an excellent Angel's Envy Old fashioned.

Fun place with a great Portland vibe! We went for Mother's Day and the server was AWESOME and on top of it. The reason there isn't 5 stars is I did get cut with a martini glass with a huge chip and none of our appetizers made it to us. We didn't get any comp for the mis-haps, which was unusual when spending $200+ for a lunch - but the food we did get was GREAT and I really enjoyed our server.

Great beer selection and a fantastic staff!!! Absolutely loved the tater tots, as well!!! Visited multiple times during our visit to Portland and the experience was consistently awesome!

Great beer, service, atmosphere. Wish there was something besides an impossible burger for vegans to have for a meal, but the sweet potato fries were good. Overall I'd come back for a beer but dine elsewhere.

Ordered delivery to our hotel at almost 9 pm when our original order at a different restaurant said it was delivered, but it really wasn't. Appreciate that they were able to accept our order so late. First off, I want to say that I almost never order salads because 1. If I'm traveling, I would want to try whatever food that that city is popular for 2. If I'm at home, I feel like I could just make the salad myself. But the salads at Backwoods are next level. They are combos that you wouldn't really think of (though now I may try to steal their recipes). And you probably wouldn't even think to order a salad at a brewery! You would normally order a burger and fries, or some pub food - but don't sleep on the salads, people! We ordered the NW Fiesta Salad (mixed greens, tortilla strips, black bean and corn salsa, red onions, pico, cheese and avocado, jalapeƱo limeĀ ranch) and Trail Grazer Salad (Italian kale, organic quinoa, tomatoes, cucumbers, banana peppers and house made candy walnuts, citrus vinaigrette and garnished with cotija cheese and balsamic reduction). Both salads were great, but we ordered the entree version (I guess because we were trying to be ambitious and eat our greens on this trip) so unfortunately, we couldn't finish it all - which by the way, the entree sizes are HUGE! So if you are two, or maybe even three people, you could share one as a starter. We also ordered the Cuban Sandwich (pulled pork, pastrami, Swiss cheese and pickles with mayonaise and mustard on Bianco bread) because we thought we needed carbs - again, I didn't realize how large those salads actually were. This was an interesting take on the cuban but I didn't care for it. It tasted mostly like pastrami, and the bread was floppy, but I don't know if that is a take out issue or if that's just how their bread is. It does come with tater tots though (and lots of ā€˜em) so at least thereā€™s that. Wish I got to try their beer, if it's as good as their salads!

Had the fish of the day. Delicious. Made a mistake on the order but it was corrected immediately and with elegance. The Pilsner is tasty. Canā€™t go wrong!

Over all I had a great experience. The service was great and attentive. My burger was good but it was quite messy and would fall apart. Sweet potato fries were great as well, who doesnā€™t love sweet potato fries. I ordered a lemonade gin type drink and it was strong, it was more like gin with a hint of lemonade but it was good. Itā€™s also kid friendly for those with children or babies.

Great beer and outstanding fried pickles! Since so many good restaurants in Portland have closed, this is one of the best remaining pubs that actually tries to make the food good, rather than just mediocre food. Have I mentioned the Beer is great šŸ‘ Cheers!
