I have been here before but I wanted Marie to enjoy Kornblatt's Deli too. They told us that the portrait of Kramer was on the wall because, back in the day, they used to be all about Seinfeld. They even served a Big Salad (and muffin tops?) and folks would pack the place on Thursday evening when new episodes aired! They still crank out the same great stuff but with out the references.We had a classic Reuben and they did not cheap out on the corned beef. With a nice side of Macaroni Salad, this was worth the trip all by itself! Lovely melty Swiss cheese and just enough sauerkraut and Russian dressing. A comfort food classic! They had no Matzo Ball Soup to our chagrin so we decided on Latkes instead. That worked out well as Marie has a new favourite! These were rich and crispy and topped with wonderful applesauce and sour cream made them a memorable experience. We tried a Knish and that was just meh. It was probably a good knish but its not something that we will dream about. I may however dream about the mason jar of excellent dills that were placed on our table! I can hardly wait for our next visit to Portland just for a return visit to Kornblatt's! This place is full of character and these folks were so friendly. Definitely plan a stop if you are in Portland!
Great neighborhood place that takes you on a trip to New York City. I always get a bagel to accompany my omelette or corn beef hash. The coffee and or lattes are very tasty. The deli sandwiches look tasty too, but I can never get past breakfast. The service is good and this small place is always hopping.
Best Reuben that I've ever had. Hands down. Staff is varying degrees of helpful, but that's a nonissue. Great location near a ton of small shops up and down NW 23rd, which makes for a perfect casual walk and afternoon exploration (must stop by "Poplandia" for some artisanal popcorn).
Who knew?!.....a NY deli right here in Portland! Authentic Sandwiches, bagels, smoked fish, salids, hoagies, and soup. Even the music is old school! Service is prompt even when they're busy. Employees act like they really care. We ate here every time we vacationed in Portland, and now we're regulars after moving. Only drawback is fighting for a parking spot around 23rd.
Although we liked Kornblatt's Delicatessen for breakfast, lunch was a disappointment. We were expecting Carnegie Deli-level sandwiches and got something that wasn't too far from Subway. Beside, we've found a much better place for breakfast in NW... the Stepping Stone Cafe.
New York right in Portland. What a great lunch spot! We were with a friend that knows his corned beef and he said it was the best he had had in years. My hubby had the #8 Cold Tongue, Turkey and Swiss. I had #11 Club with Pastrami, oh so good. The sides of coleslaw and potato salad (great taste) made it more than enough. We did save room for Noodle Kugel, a dessert similar to bread pudding, but with noodles. Very friendly and good service. On the menu it even tells you to take your time and enjoy. The meats are flown in from New York. We will have to return. Being on 23rd it's a bit hard to find parking but worth a block or two walk.
NY style deli in PDX. Love the Brooklyn Bomb- but the Pastrami is also great! Love the free pickles.
I've heard from others of inattentive servers, but that's never been a problem for us. The food is simply great and filling and there is a LOT of it.
You wont be disappointed.
Grilled pastrami Reuben w/ mustard instead of Russian- perfection! Best potato salad ANYWHERE, all the pickles you can eat, and great portions (I'm not on a mission to break any weight records, thanks)!
Add the great service I've ALWAYS received, and it's a good thing I live on the other side of town. I'd be here weekly if it were closer.
Pastrami sandwich is delicious! So moist and flavorful. And on the soft rye bread. Mmm mm. The cole slaw is nothing special and the girl behind the counter was kinda rude but the food is pretty good.
Perfection. Love the Empire State Sandwiches! Simply amazing! I get the roast beef, corned beef, and salami! If I lived in Portland I'd be a regular here.. Pickles on the tables are a cool touch!
Combo Rachel with macaroni salad and a fountain Coca~Cola! One of my favorite lunches of all times.
The cornbeef hash is great. I visit every time I come to Portland.
Great vegetarian options! A bagel comes with just about anything..what could be better? Highly recommended. Will absolutely return! So delicious!
Holy cow. Pastrami on rye rocks. The jug of pickles makes it a meal. Great place

Hot rubin with melted cheddar cheese....this thing what the perfect amount of crunchy and tender dipping juicy meat. I wanted to take a photo but I count stop eating.

First time visitor who will most definately return. Wonderful experience overall. Great Rueben! disappointed they don't make their own bagels. Great customer service. Even though the place was full we received our food quickly.
Wow... I consider myself quite the sandwich connoisseur. While Portland has GOBS of restaraunts, I've found very few excellent sandwiches, until trying Kornblatt's. WOW. HUGE menu - I will need to return at least a dozen times before I've tried everything that caught my eye, and I'm sure I'll end up noticing other menu items upon my return. The Reuben was PERFECT - excellent bread, high quality turkey, fabulous kraut. I didn't have a single complaint. The interior is very 'New York Deli', very clean and well kept - even the bathrooms were clean.
The food here is pretty good. The only problem is that I expected more from a New York style deli. Once you say that you're a New York style deli, I automatically hold you to a higher standard. If this was any other sandwich shop, I would probably say it's really good, which (more objectively speaking) it is. The bread seemed a little airy and dry and the meats seemed like they had been sliced hours ago instead of when I ordered it. I thought that my Empire State Sandwich, which the menu warns "No Wimpy Appetites Allowed" about, should have had more meat and more flavorful dressing on it too. I guess I'm saying the New York style sandwich didn't measure up... It was weak in comparison. I will say, however, that the place has a great atmosphere to it and the staff was colorful and friendly. And I say that even though the waitress pointed out to us that there was a parking enforcer across the street giving her a parkin

A great place for either bagels, breakfast food, or sandwiches. This has been along tree popular street of NW 23rd for as long as I can remember. The combination (corned beef and pastrami) Ruben sandwich is super tasty. The #2 sandwich - roast beef, corn beef, and salami is also good. They also give you jars of pickles...definitely a plus for all the pickle lovers out there! The service is nice and friendly and the vibe is like a simplistic cafe style.

Great service. Quick to order when it’s not busy. The menu is expansive with so many different options you will definitely return more than once. I recommend the Lox.
This Jewish deli has been in business in Portland for 30 years. I had their combination pastrami and corned beef Reuben. It was outstanding. I also had a cup of coffee and it, too, was excellent.
My wife had a Salami Tire sandwich. It's an open face sandwich on bagel with cheese melted under the broiler. She also had something she'd never had before - an Egg Cream Soda. She loved it.
Pricing, service, quality, ambiance were all superb.
Love this place. It makes me feel better when I'm homesick for good New York Deli food. The staff is friendly and willing to help with the menu to find something you'll enjoy. The food is delicious, and always top notch. I have not had anything I didn't like! I'd suggest the matzo ball soup and a Ruben!!
I've been here three times throughout a few years and each time it's very yummy and the service is fast and friendly! Their cranberry turkey is what I usually get and you can't go wrong with the pickle they give you for an appetizer!
Excellent food and service! Not overly crowded if you arrive before noon on a Sunday at least. Somewhat easy to reach via public transit and cheaper than parking in the area. Great place! Easy to see why they've been successful for over 30 years.
A nice little New York deli in Portland. Very good lox, very good cream cheese. The corned beef was pretty good too; the only reason it isn't getting 5 stars is that our waitress was somewhat inattentive to our table. Still, nice place!
Definitely a NY style deli. Great service, nice people, affordable, and tasty. Not fantastic food, a little cluttered inside, but good people. It’s really a very NY spot in the middle of Portland.
The bagels here are chewy, flavorful, and they shmear just the right amount of cream cheese. Stopped by neighboring bagel places only to miss the perfectly toasted bagels here at Kornblatt’s. Have tried some other items on the menu as well and they were good too! Love stopping by here to snack on a bagel. So far tried the sesame and onion bagels and they were both delicious! The New York vibes of this place makes it a fun place to eat inside too!
