Circa 33 on SE Belmont is probably most  known for in the evening as a neighborhood Prohibition-themed cocktail bar. But, did you know they also offer an al fresco dining alley area, and on weekends by the restrooms when the red light is on, host a speakeasy type bar? And don’t overlook the additional hidden gem of its weekend brunch, served 10 AM – 2 PM, featuring a curated list of dishes which include several vegetarian and vegan friendly options and of course, cocktails. Today I share my brunch visit, and here’s a look at the secret speakeasy – which will be put to good use on a Prohibition Party in a couple weeks!

Terrific brunch on the patio. Special Bloody Marys with pickled veggies and bacon (what?). Only opens at 11 though

Good but not Great. Ended up here for happy hours on a Sunday. The food was merely good. Although we arrived pretty early, they were already out of several options. We did enjoy the food we did order and especially enjoyed the live band -- which drew us into this place rather than the place next door (The Sweet Hereafter).

Family friendly..... We were looking for some place new to try. My wife and our two sons (8 &12) had dinner here. My 8 year old had a Bacon Cheeseburger with Egg. He said it was the best he had ever had. My other boy had had the Mac & Cheese with bacon. He loved it. I had the Pork Belly BLT. It was so good I woke the next morning wishing I had one for breakfast. We had a great time.

Our favorite spot on Belmont! We go mostly for brunch on the weekends. Can't beat the chicken and biscuits with sausage gravy and $2 mimosas. Yum!

Really nice ambieance, great wait staff. I had a cod cake appetizer, it was decent...far too potatoey. Good beer list. Overall, more positives than negatives, but nothing really special on the first visit.

This is such an amazing place! Absolutely a must while living or traveling in the area! They are open now on the patio which is Gin Alley. (Wednesday - Saturday 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm) Definitely speakeasy as it is in a alley from the inside building. The music was of the era of the 1930’s (jazzy and of the like). The late great Miles Davis III was on the tunes! Outstanding dishes, unforgettable drinks, and impeccable service.

Needed to find a place for a quick meal and a night cap after a disappointing few snacks at another location. On a Wednesday night we found parking on the street and strolled on in. Service was super welcoming and very pleasant in describing the various drinks and food offerings. I opted for the Negroni Flight, three variations on the Negroni, Classic, White and Smoked. All were fantastic! Had a burger with Brie and it was excellently prepared and super delicious. Nice crowd, while fairly full, it was still easy for the two of us to carry on a conversation, which is nice to find in a hip and crowded bar/restaurant.

Great place for a laid back yummy drink date. Inside looked very comfy but we sat outdoors, it was perfect.

Everyone is amazing here, super friendly and made delicious drinks. Food was also amazing. We got to spend time in the speakeasy area with the secret bookshelf door which was super cool.

Was finally able to visit after the re-open. Still great food and drinks. The menu has changed, in both drinks and food. The corpse reviver is no longer on the menu which is a bummer, but the other drink we had was still excellent. Slightly smaller portions than before, but I’m happy to see the place up and running so I don’t mind. Seating: They have two covered tables outside in front. They have limited seating inside. They have a covered heated alley that you go through the inside to access. Was very comfortable in the 45F weather.

Great brunch especially for vegetarians! Had the carafe of mimosas (strawberry) which was fresh and bright. Wonderful brunch with home potatoes, veg mushroom biscuits and gravy, and an egg. So flavorful and homey (something I miss living away from Oregon). Super fantastic DJ playing fun but low key Sunday brunch music. Great service and relaxed atmosphere.

Recently had an amazing happy hour at Circa 33. Had delicious cocktails and shared three small plates with a friend. The chicken strips were so crispy and delicious, definitely felt homemade. As well, the mac and cheese was creamy and classically wonderful and the Brussels sprouts really rounded out our happy hour with a healthy feel. Circa 33 has a great environment, is very welcoming, and definitely worth checking out if you are in the area.

Was here last night. While it was disappointing that the beer taps were not operational, the cocktail I had was tasty, well balanced and elegant. The pot stickers were crispy on the outside but the fine ground interior was different from other potstickers I have had in the past, and was a delightful difference. They were excellent!!! Thank you!

This was our first visit to a speakeasy. The setting was nice and access to the hidden bar was pretty cool and what we were hoping for. The drinks were really good but a bit on the high side price wise. The deviled eggs with stone ground mustard and maple reduction were really good as were the dirty fries. The bookcase burger was amazing as was the chicken sandwich. I rated 4 out of 5 because of the prices and because we hoped the experience would have taken us back in time to the days when these establishments were illegal. The music being played throughout was modern day instead of music from the era. Our next speakeasy will be at a historic location that was actually run as one instead of one built to be like one.

I'm very happy, lucky and proud to start a new job working at Circa33. I love the atmosphere so cozy and everyone is great to work with and talk to! Having a drink late at night after a shift with co workers is so awesome! It's like going to a late night lounge or club which is a great feeling and it's only 4 minutes away from me so I have no complaints. Yay! Thank you Circa33 for taking me into your family! I'm very grateful to help keep an amazing cocktail bar up and running well! 😁

Really well built cocktails! The duck fat fries were also incredible. Great place for drinks and snacks. Didn't try any entrees but they also looked tasty.

This is one of the underrated bars in Portland. The staff is always friendly and helpful. This is my go to place when I have friends from out of town. The drinks are always made wonderfully and the food is good quality but inexpensive. Circa 33 is also really great for date nights too! Go on a Thursday for Comedy night; always a great laugh.

This is my favorite spot on Belmont. Excellent food. Great happy hour. They make a mean cocktail, have a good wine selection and numerous beer options with an extensive draft list. Being kid friendly is a nice touch as well.
