The low-slung and unassuming Sweet Home Bar & Grill is a neighborhood gem! As a professional chef and food writer, I endeavored to spend (the Mercury's annual) Nacho Week chowing down on as many crunchy, crispy variations on the Nacho theme as I could. I was genuinely disappointed by the 3 out of 5 I tried; lackluster efforts would be an understatement. However, when I went to Sweet Home Bar & Grill, my faith in the tradition of Nacho Week was restored tenfold. First of all, this place is CLEAN - it's naturally dive bar dim inside, but your feet don't stick to the floor as you sidle up to the bar to meet - clearly, the fastest moving, most friendly bartender you'll ever meet, Crystal. Once I placed my order I took ownership of a table facing the door, yet strategically located for full reconnaissance once my eyes adjusted. The pool table, dining tables, barstools, video machines (and un-ripped-up chairs) were all in un-sticky, un-torn and clean! The music was 80's and 90's rock triggered my awkward college years, like a psychic, Crystal caught me staring off into the 'what if' abyss and brought me another Deschutes Pale Ale.
My Nacho Quest was delivered to me in a large plastic tray under checkered paper: Bulgogi Beef Nachos. Tender, umami-rich rib-eye strips were layered on sturdy, freshly deep-fried tortilla chips and served with queso, garlic sour cream and (thankfully) the kimchi on the side. Trust me when I say, after disappointing nachos elsewhere, these were superb! Bulgogi Beef Nachos showed up like a 'just the facts, ma'am' and ended with a tip of the hat to my palate. High praise to Chef Steve Federlin for restoring my faith in Nacho Week. FUN FACT: I've been back a few times and I can personally recommend the Double Smashed Burger (phat and juicy) and the Steak & Fries (cooked to expectation with crispy, fluffy beer-battered fries). Now, if I could just get them to stop playing Christopher Cross...
Pool tournament on Tuesday every week $5 entry. Not that bad of a place to hang out. There is a tournament of champions. 8 weeks regular 1 week off then tournament of champions. Each tournament winner gets free entry into the tournament of champions. Someone asked if it had changed. I've been in and out for about 8 years. I haven't seen any changes/ now they have a 10 ball tournament on Thur. 7pm $7 Entry with a 10 ball break pot. π
I love the happy hour burger, now there are new owners with a new menu. No more happy hour right now, but there is a new burger in town. And promised it was tastier, as a skeptical person who love the grease burger from last week. I tried it, they make own patties and home made French fries. Well, I AM IN LOVE, this new burger with grill cheese that is gooey and chewy melted on burger, with the pickles and fries. Yum, YUM AND I AM IN LOVE! A MUST TRY.

Atmosphere isn't my type of place. It's a very portland dive. Quite crowded. The KJ is awesome though.

Great ribs, I arrived on New Year's with my lady and we've met at the door almost 7 seconds after the stroke of midnight and As we greeted each other I'm happy New Year is we went to open the door and a bartender Who was coming outside Said he wasn't gonna let us in because he didn't want to handle any More drunk people. We both said that we just got off of work and Have not been drinking. We just were about to open the Door but the bartender said no he already told us no more drunk people, which we were clearly not. We had been waiting and planning on meeting here and were Saddened and frustrated by the poor decision making of the bartender. He could see that had we reached the handle 10 seconds earlier we'd be inside. There were actual intoxicated people coming out but he firmly stated we weren't allowed in. There wasn't a sign up. The guy was just being a jerk and had a bad attitude with no care or empathy in his heart. I guess those are traits I like in my service person. As a guess service employee I was taken back and I don't like to go there nearly as much despite my need for the delicious ribs mmmmm good. Without them ribs, I'd never go there because of the terrible service and Heartlessness of the bartender.
Great staff! Huge delicious food portions! And lots of karaoke fun. The KJ is super awesome!!
Amazing staff great drinks pool table and trans friendly Crystal the bartender/manager is amazing everybody is welcome best bar in the area in my opinion
This is a dive bar. Itβs a fantastic dive bar but still a dive bar. Donβt expect a fancy bar with craft cocktails and gourmet food. Itβs tasty food but not fancy.
The guy at the bar is a neat freak. Love this! Clean bar. Good drinks. Fast service. Love me a good dive bar. Even play good music.
Sweet Home is a rare find in that there is no skimping on the drinks, the food being served is Gourmet and both are reasonably priced (I had a meal and two drinks for under $20). There is also karaoke and everyone was very supportive to whomever got up and sang.
I will most definitely recommend this establishment to friends and family alike. You can't park on site, but there is a well lit parking lot across the street which usually has spaces available.
As always the bar keep is friendly and happy to serve. Doesnt matter what day or time it is, its a nice little spot. Pool. Music. T.v. Lottery games. Their food is pretty delicious. Its not bar food. Its food. Good Ole fashioned breakfasts and suppers. Give the cook a thumbs up and Dont forget the cook when ya tip. Theyre the half experience. I've been going to this place for years. Well, since day one. To this day they treat you Like your their first customer. Now thats saying something. Parking can be weird but manageable. Check it out for yourself.
This bar is truly great - if you don't scare easily. Everyone is very friendly and our drinks were served up fast and strong even on a Friday/Saturday night. And while no one would ever turn you away, it's easy to feel out of place. But if you don't care about that, it's an awesome neighborhood bar that keeps on being awesome. Check it out at least once!
Good drinks and New Awesome Menu
Ok, so the service is great drinks are prices normal (as far as bars go) and the atmosphere is welcoming for the most part. This was my first time really hanging out and playing around with video poker machines but I had a ducking blast! I was up almost $200 bucks at one point! I didn't know you could actually win money at these places. Ha now I know. But seriously, if u want to have a good time at a place that makes you feel welcome then you owe it to yourself to try sweet home bar and grill
If you are anything like me then I'm sure you will have a great time
Drinks are cheap and well made, the house drinks are amazing, the staff is super friendly and always on top of their work. Crowded, but the people who gather are a fun bunch and welcome newcomers. Never had issues with bringing my service animal here, the staff is amazing in that they completely ignore him and don't bug me with a zillion questions about him like so many other places are want to do.
Love, Love, Love this place ! This is my home away from home and I just moved out of town a little over a year ago. My husband and I just keep coming back. 60 miles round trip x2 vehicles.
